Something that almost all high level american fighters are missing. You see club fighters like Lemos and Pitbull (sorry, they are tough fighters, but are small for weight class and throw all looping shots) give top american boxers lots of problems by simply throwing looping shots and working on the inside with aggresion. All they have is clinching as a tool to combat it.

This is a great fight to coach young boxers - Ward demonstrates the ring martialship to adapt to an opponent and builds everything from his defence and jab dominance. Whilst Froch has the heart and stamina that any champion needs at some point. I’m always sad to hear Froch downplay this fight as ‘boring’ - he diminishes his own accomplishment to have fought so stoically and create such an entertaining spectacle. He just didn’t have the skill pedigree that Ward had - and that’s ok, Ward was a unique talent as a left handed orthodox Olympic Gold medalist… there’s nothing but honour in taking him 12 rounds!

For Ward to be considered a different level he would hane had to get Froch out of there which he couldn't. No one could because Froch had world class stamina and chin. The scorecards are proof that you shouldn't trust, leaving it in the judges hands... He practically out-pointed/out-boxed Carl in every round. It's been years since I've seen this fight, but the way I remember it, i gave Carl maybe 3 rounds, 4 if I'm being modest. I don't recall it being a shutout, be i do remember thinking by the 9th or 10th round, the only way he wins the fight is by knockout. And in my opinion it wasn't something Andre did that was exceptionally well, he wasn't super defensive, he dropped his guards a lot, fought on the inside. What gave Carl the biggest problem was Andre's speed, and that jab that seemed to land whenever Andre threw it.
