As VICIOUS a right hand shot as I have seen! Lloyd was a real good fighter man...

A peak / peaking Honeyghan was a beast ! From 4:55 on ……. You can see Honeyghan starting to time and measure Rosi for the big right hand.

"Rosi is in trouble" massive understatement. The fella was through the ropes

Honeyghan looked for a while like he was going to be one of the greatest British boxers ever, sadly he faltered badly against Starling and Breland yet he was still a very fine fighter.

I believe the word you are looking for is "starched". Absolutely starched him.

Thanks for this, don't know much about Honeyghan but will look more after watching this

Bloody hell....that was a murderous right hand.

Lets just say Rosi never wanted a Rematch!

Jeez, the crowd went absolutely silent when that knockout right hand landed. The description was right on the money with "home favourite." The hometown fans were shocked into silence.

It shows you how good Lloyd Honeyghan was. I'm surprised Don Curry took him so lightly in Curry's defense of the Welterweight Title in September 1986, over a year after this fight. It's obvious Honeyghan is something special; Curry paid the price for his complacency and never really recovered from the beating Honeyghan gave him that night. Rosi, literally, didn't know what had hit him and was still wobbling around after getting up. I think Lloyd used to have some serious gym wars with Kirkland Laing and Maurice Hope in the Terry Lawless gym in the East End of London - if you can hold your own with guys of that calibre, and you have the discipline, the only way is up...perfect righthand punch knockout - thanks for uploading.

Great punch I really liked Lloyd a real character 100%

@imperialpod I was pretty stunned though when Honeyghan beat Curry, whom I held in fairly high regard. He had a beautiful balanced style of fighting and could punch. It was a great win for Lloyd, to beat Donald like that. And yeah, you're right, the same thing befell Honeyghan against Starling. Styles make fights...

I'd put Honeyghan in my all time top 20 British fighters, maybe even top 10. Brilliant when focused and sometimes plain bad especially against Starling and Breland.

I spoke with the late Mickey Duff and he said that John Conteh wad his best fighter and Lloyd Honeyghan 2nd. That is high praise indeed and I believe his assessment because Mickey Duff was retried at the time and he also shared this story about Honey ghan not likening him and he told the press at the time," there is nothing in our contract that says we have to like eachother" - Classic - lol

Rosi best quality as a fighter was how awkward he was and I've never seen such a limited fighter go so far in boxing.

Rossi was awkward & TOUGH! what a great punch that was to FLATTEN the Italian...

ex ABA champ Dave Dent sparked Lloyd out a few days before in sparring, just read in Jimmy Tibbs book, this was a great win against Rosi who went on to defend a World title 10 times!
@thdtfghg10 жыл бұрын
I read that as well. I guess under the rules the fight should not have gone ahead as he might have still been suffering from concussion as a result of the KO in sparring. However, it did not seem to affect his performance.

Rosi was a huge man at WW. Very strong and tough and his ugly but awkward attacks carried strength. Its no real suprise he would be one of the 3 world champions from 1987 to 1995 . Honeyghan & Curry had the skills and power to dent him. But Terry Norris didnt fight him

Too bad this sort of thing couldn't have happened to Rosi more often. His title reign was as ugly as professional boxing gets. I've heard Rosi trained at John Ruiz's "Hug 'em Come Hell or High Water School of Infighting". Anyone know if that's true or not?

@peaceman1234567 Curry wasn't much of a shit-talker and even his use of the term "ragamuffin" wasn't too harsh but he learned a hard lesson that night. Your man Honeyghan was a tough customer and an honorable warrior--and I was really, really bummed when he got beat up by Starling.

Rosi was a dirty boxer. The European referees allowed it especially in italy.
