It's nice to just take a break from the stereotypical part of being gay (sex stuffs). I constantly remind my friends that being gay is not about being sexual, it's about liking or even loving the same sex as yours. If you're here to find sex scenes, you're out of luck.

This movie had me crying in the end,but it was very touching.Like the fact that they just meet each other, yet still they were able to inspire each other to achieve their dreams. Guess, friendship can change a person no matter how short the time may be.

belle05scoty Of course this movie is not about friendship, mas about love. A love that is never explained, but it's there, hovering over them. The scene of Junya with her female friend in the middle of the film, makes this very clear.

I read a few comments that said it was a shame that they never consummated their love. Does that mean that they didn't have sex? I believe Junya consummated his love when he rode his bike to Shitaro's hometown to be with him. Shintaro didn't need to hear any "I love you's" from Junya seeing him arrive like that. That was pure love. That said more than words or a sexual act could ever say. Junya staying true to him till the end was pure love. Having sex and saying I love you do not necessarily mean that you share a true loving bond. This movie was a beautiful lesson on love.

But it would be nice if they did at least say "I love you". Because although action speaks louder than words, sometimes saying it out loud can be good too. The thought of them both being in love with each other and not being able to experience of what's it like to be a couple is just... 😢 Their time together is too short. Shintaro deserves to be happy for a long time with Junya 😭

The only thing in this movie that was missing is them being honest about their feels for each other. This movie proves that every moment counts, don’t waste them by being afraid. Speak your heart and accept that pain is a part of life, but regret doesn’t have to be! Never be afraid to be honest about how your feels!

This was actually an amazing film. People keep saying it wasn't boy love but bromance. And I agree and disagree. There was one scene with the bartender that he reveals he's gay (the bartender) and this whole scene about the bartenders sexuality then after he ask if he's looking for Shinto (I know I spelled that wrong) I think this scene is suppose to lead us to believe that he indeed did have a romantic attraction to the other. Also at the point when they stop talking he says "I don't know why it hurts to much" I mean come on. Also with the girl, he didn't want to go on a date with her and he for sure didn't want to have sex, when the other asked him if he wanted to date her he just mumbled and didn't answer. Then that scene after they leave where he steps so close to him and they just stare. I mean. Sheesh. Sexual tension or what. The ending where he waits for her (the girl he went on a date with) to smile I think is just because everything is coming full circle, he didn't want to hurt her and he feels bad but when she smiled it was the last piece of the puzzle for him to feel complete. No bad blood. The two main actors chemistry was great and it ACTUALLY has a plot (some Japanese films go all over the place and you don't know what's going on). Yes there was no kissing but I think the boy love was heavily implied, but also a thought, if you knew you were going to die would you really want to start an sexually intimate intense relationship? Wouldn't that just hurt more for your partner in the end? But seriously watch it, everyone says they stopped after he found out about the others tumor but in a roundabout way there is a happy ending. Sigh... I just wrote a novel sorry but I needed to voice my opinion. :3

Athena Christensen I totally agree with everything you said in your comment! I think they were in the beginning stages of falling in love and Shintarou illness and possible future death made him not want to hurt Junya more if he died. Shintarou hid his illness from everyone especially Junya because he wanted everyone to continue to treat him normally and not feel awkward and sad. I always feel that when these characters decide to leave the ones they love without an explanation and die all alone that they've made a huge mistake. I would want to have every moment left with my loved one and help them through every single pain. I would feel so hurt and misunderstood if the person I loved chose to hide away and die to protect me. For those individuals who doubt that Junya and Shintarou were in love I ask "Did you watch the entire movie?" Junya showed nothing but friendship to the beautiful girl at work who adored him. What straight male would turn down a beautiful (drunk) girl offering herself fully in her bedroom? I also think the mother's fear of him being like his father was in regards to him possibly being gay also. She was very emotional about it. The bar scene and conversation was all to let us know that it was a gay bar and that Junya and Shintarou were more than just friends. If all of the scenes in this movie were between a girl and a boy we wouldn't have people questioning the couples relationship. It's only because the couple are a same sex couple and people are uncomfortable with the notion of two beautiful boys falling in love.

I understand the wish to preserve the feelings of the other... but I know from personal experience, holding back just gives them YEARS OF REGRETS about what might have been, even if only briefly. How about swallowing reality? It might be that many people want happy endings - but there is no such thing - buy a fairy tale book if you need that. I LOST MY FIRST BOY FRIEND IN A CAR ACCIDENT - it needed ages to come over it - i still do have nightmares about it. I like it that way - probably as I battle cancer and the people I leave behind sooner or later have that bad feeling too.

This warm hearted movie deals with the theme of love and friendship between two good looking and compatible men. They did not openly express their love or consummate their relationship but it is obvious that they had love for each other beyond friendship. Unfortunately circumstances forced this situation and thus the ending is sad but uplifting in many ways. Great movie.

For all those whining about this not being BL. Can you really not read between the lines? Just because they don't come out and announce "yo dude I'm gay and totally non-platonically in love with you" or start ripping off each other's clothes doesn't mean it's not BL. Junya was in denial at first and not sure of his feelings until he heard Shin was dying. And by that point I don't think it was a good time to be starting a romantic relationship. Shin was in bad shape and most likely not in the mood for smut. Did you all not notice Shin here at 21:27 ? The way he looks at Junya? And then after he's afraid Junya caught him ogling but then Junya was oblivious at that time. Furthermore what do you think was the purpose of the subplot with the girl? Obviously to show Junya had feelings for Shin but couldn't admit it to himself, hence why he started distancing himself from him. And then the whole thing about Shin ordering margaritas for them like the bartender explains: margarita was created for a man's lover. I mean were you guys even paying attention? If all you want is sex scenes go watch an adult film instead of complaining here to the subber who took weeks of her time subbing this film to share with people and got nothing in return. Seriously.

Everyone will die, sooner or later. Dying is not a problem. The problem is not live. When Junya and Shintaro met for the first time, they were not living. It was the meeting of these two sorrows that born the joy of living for both. The only thing that made me really sad in this film is the fact they have not consummated the love between them. But this kind of thing seems so as particular feature of Japanese culture that until I give up trying to understand.

But I think they did. I mean I understand there were no "I love u"s no kisses but are they all it takes to complete someone's love for other. The simple act of juntya (spelling may be wrong) of travelling all the distance just to meet him and then keeping him company until the end speaks his love louder than saying it out. And as for shinta him keeping his promise to the person he loves is more than enough. Though it's just my opinion.

Glad that Shintaro enjoyed his last moments instead of trying to end it early. Junya will always treasure and carry Shintaro in his heart. This sad ending is much better than ridiculous sad ending most gay movies do.
@OumyNeferti6 жыл бұрын
Beautiful film but was waiting for them saying "I love you" to each other, a tender kiss maybe....but I knew it would never happen based on how the story was unfolding. Why is that gay films always have a tragic ending at some level? I feel that filmmakers wether they are gays or not always perpetrate that idea that gay love never leads to anything good, to an happy ever after ending. Why is that? Millions of lgbtq people are living their love very freely and happily. We need to see those happy and successful love stories. That may help change the negative misconceptions, and let younger people know that love is love and it is Ok to fall in love and be with anybody they want.

In an important book "The Celluloid Closet" by Vito Russo, he condemns Hollywood formula where gays always end up dead. He provides a necrology as an appendix in his book. It was a very important book of the 1980s challenging Hollywood's treatment of the gay community. Though this being Japan, the idea of suicide often has a different meaning, but I still regard the prevalence of endings with death with suspicion. Also, I think that writers and directors don't know how to have a story line with deep drama without someone dying. They are a prisoner of cliches.

Am a mother of 3. And I have watched BL dramas by accident just late last year. And I was so amazed and surprised that they have good stories and good actors so to speak. Much more it was not all about sex or " porno " . Instead, they show to us how difficult to live life, the struggle, and how biased and prejudiced we are to them. Watching BL dramas gives me a broader horizon to better understand them and appreciate them as equally and normal human being. And honestly, I find male actors are better than female actors. No offensement. Their acting is so intense especially in showing their emotions. Oh, my...it really touches to the very core of my heart. It makes me sad to see them why they could not live a normal life as a couple. Are they not entitled for their own happiness? Is love limited only to....Whom?❤️😘

I liked this movie very much my only grievance is that Shintaro didn't survive the surgery. I wanted him to survive and then grow old with Junya.

That was a really good movie with a good story behind it. Different than most bl movies I've seen.

Even though he died I'm going see it as a happy ending (yes I cried a little dont judge me😂). Before they found each other one was depressed and wanted to kill himself. The other was just walking through life a shadow after his father died with a mother who was also depressed. They breathed life into each other. Even though they never acted on it they were falling love (I dont care if they never kissed or hugged). That love strengthened them. It allowed them one to leave with a smile fulfilling a promise. The other found his dream/path/goal for his life. Since they were both happier I'll see it as happy.

They didn’t need to say "I love you", I was left disappointed too but I’m sure they knew about how the other was feeling

Good movie. I enjoyed it. Definite undertones of BL but a solid bromance film if nothing else. There was friendship, respect and love...can't ask for more.

okay just finished watching this. Id say this was a good watch! Its more a shounen ai level, or perhaps just some really beautiful simple bromance but yeah pretttty refreshing watching this! Cinematography is pretty spot on with theme of a cyclists life
