As far as I know as an Indonesia, It was the same flag as Dutch flag, but we ripped of the blue one as a proof that we have already independent, and that also gives a means red as a blood means sacrifices and white as a saint or innocence symbol.

*TO BE FAIR,* North Korea is far from the bottom economically and is one of the safest places in the world. And it does not even have "U are dead" issue in reality versus Western media fear mongering propaganda which has reported dozens (!) of people killed that later turned out to be perfectly alive showing up in various places. But yes, it is certainly far from being a liberal society. But if you ask people if they want this versus the chaos and despair of "free capitalist democracies" like Honduras, Haiti, Guatemala etc, with their incredible poverty and violence, they would certainly choose NK.
