The CDC shows Montana to have the highest suicide death rate in the U.S., and, per data from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately half of the state’s residents live in communities where there are not enough mental healthcare professionals, limiting access to care.
In Bozeman, a newly launched pilot program offering walk-in mental health services aims to help fill a resource gap in the community.
“There really hasn't been anything like this program in our community,” said Nicole Madden, the director of behavioral health at Bozeman Health.
The clinic intends to fill a need for transitional mental health care in the community and offers immediate support through counseling and psychiatric services as well as resource navigation, which can help set patients up with outpatient and primary care and connect them to resources including housing and nutrition aid in addition to other assistance.
