The "duel" and the subsequent battle between Billy and La Motte is my favorite sequence throughout the film, and the most I enjoy is when Billy, unaware of anything, helps her humiliate Homer, and then, after the fight, Charles and Brett help get up tired Billy in front of Homer. This is a very strong scene

Yes. It's a pity, that he didn't play Billy in books two and three. I liked John Stockwell in that role. He was able to show emotions well, such as fear and anger, which are clearly visible in this scene. And that was missing from Parker Stevenson at times.

The ONLY people whom Justin would've had any kind of feelings for, would've been LaMottes. You have to remember, that the first LaMotte, had settled in what became South Carolina, a year before the first Main had done so. And that as a result, Justin (like all LaMottes), felt that this had given him a patent of nobility; it made him quite an arrogant ass.

Not musket balls. Percussion revolvers (in this case, a Navy sized .375 diameter, could fire a Round ball or a conical bullet. The bullet molds than usually came with the cased sets, were cut to cast both types of projectiles.

Forbes dolling out those insults like a robot, he even said it with no emotion; making obvious to Billy, that he just wants them to have a legal duel; and if the pistols are messed with, no one can determine that after the fact, so the conspirators don't have to worry about that then.
@galoon12 жыл бұрын
Yes, no one carried duelling pistols around with them normally! Plus, duels strictly adhered to specific customs. They were arranged beforehand, with the challenger selecting the time and place and the person being challenged (Billy, in this case) having the choice of weapons. There was no such thing as a "spur of the moment" duel like you see here!
@PODSMPSG18 жыл бұрын
if the person being challenged refused, that's cowardice.
@malcolml3094 жыл бұрын
Well, to be fair, this "duel," was ginned up by Forbes and Ashton, as a convenient means of murdering Billy.
@galoon4 жыл бұрын
@@malcolml309 Right! And Billy, like any other male in the mid-19th century, would immediately have suspected foul play for three reasons: 1)Forbes just happens to have a pair of dueling pistols with him. 2)As the party being challenged to the duel, Billy is NOT being given the choice of weapons (usually either pistols or sabers). Major breach of protocol here. 3)Billy has not been challenged by Forbes days in advance--another major breach of the Code Duello--the rules for dueling. Billy therefore has had no time to choose the man who will serve as his second. The film's screenwriters and producers didn't take the time to research this...
