Wasn't it great to be on a railway station in those days, not constantly bombarded with endless safety and security announcements.

The "strange" chamfered looking platform seen @ 3.45 as the class 31 pulls in from Hinckley/Leicester was how the station was left after the Nuneaton "rail disaster" in the mid 1970's when the overnight express from Euston was derailed at high speed. I spent many a windy morning catching trains to Euston and having to trek up to the far exposed end of platform 4 in the hope of getting a seat.

Some thing odd going on with the up electrics diverting through platform two not staying flat out through platform three. That 58 would be headed to one of two pits on the Coventry line, and I believe the 47 was on empty palletised pet food wagons. No ballast trains, very unusual for Nuneaton in those days. Wish you’d moved around so there was some footage of the down sidings before they were removed to re route the avoiding line from Birmingham through the station. I think the up sidings has been removed and Asda built by 1987.

It’s so surreal seeing Nuneaton station without platforms 6 and 7. The changes in architecture that surrounds the station too is weird to see, it’s makes it hard to tell whether the trains are even heading north or south. Everything in this vid looks recognisable but just slightly off.
