:') I have a large gap created from improper previous orthondontist treatment, and am now with a more compassionate, and honest office... What my past was never provided, my current orthondontist is. He used open coil springs in the main concerned areas (first premolars and canines). And I believe it's now in due to open space, but to deposit new bone growth, to thereafter help better close these spaces. They'd be applying my bottom braces in October, and starting rubber bands. Thankfully, I'm confiding & seeing how it pans out.

Mine started hurting recently, even though I've had them on for about 3 months now. I've been consistent with my rubber bands or elastics, and they're actively trying to shift but are held back with these likely open coil springs. 😅 I had an assistant in the office last tell me that they're likely just using an open coil spring as a passive/to hold it's gap there.

I have two extra diagonal teeth that goes inside and my dentist wants to pull and align it straight. So, he had this idea of putting open coil spring to move some teeth to give way to my extra teeth to prevent extraction of my two front teeth. This is just a trial, if no movements happens in a month. He had no choice but to extract my two front teeth. But if it does work, no need for extraction. Idk if we're the same case.

I had a passive coil at first because I had a baby tooth that they needed to preserve the space for an implant later. my lip got caught in it all the time and basically ripped little chunks out. it was annoying and hurt a lot. I got a new passive spring during my last wire change but it fits the gap much better. haven’t had any issues yet. I have a large gap from a missing molar so I might get an active spring at some point or maybe power chains (can’t afford two implants and I have an extra wisdom tooth on that side anyway).

Also request you to show us in upcoming videos the types of archwires and also the types of brackets (not like metallic and ceramic), since not all the brackets on all the teeth look exactly same. I got a open coil put on late week and my orthodontist put the bands on two of them (the coils was place on my three bottom teeth) because one of the bands wouldnt stay on. My question is that one of the two bands that were put on the coils fell off and I was wondering if I need to go back to get a new one put on? Or would the coil work the same without one of the bands?

Are coil springs an alternative for an expander? My ortho said that my jaw needs to be expanded, and that she has braces thar can do it. Was she reffering to coil springs? (I have a teeth out of alignment with too little space, but my teeth are super crowded) I hope i explained it well😅 Would appreciate if you could answer🙏

I had a coil spring placed to make space for one crowded tooth. Yesterday I had it removed and and wire placed on bracket of the tooth that needed to come forward. Just overnight the tooth has moved so far forward but the teeth on each side have also moved closer together again. It now looks like this tooth will not fit in between the the two teeth where space was created. I'm sorry I am trying to explain this as best I can. Please advise what should be done now. Thanks

I have a question, for the passive coil spring. Say you run out of open coil spring can you just stretch the passive and make it like a bracket long to make room as a open coil?????

Hello doctor, My orthodontist applied two closed coil spring from my upper right and left lateral incisors to my 2nd molars. They slipped over the bracket and are now leaning against my gums. When I wore elastics I could easily adjust them, but I don’t know how to move the close spring back over the brackets. PLEASE ANSWER. THANK YOU!

Hi Dr Greg, the closed coil springs. What sizes do they come in? I’m an ortho student. I watch your videos a lot. Thanks 😊

Hi, I was wondering. How long does a orthodontist usually leave an open coil spring on a patient?

My teeth are really crowded, do you think they will use open coil springs to make space? Thank you!

At 1:56 is my case but on both sides (my 1st premolar on left and right side were extracted 2 years ago). I finally got braces just so the spaces would close. I hope my orthodontist will put close coil springs for the spaces. My bottom teeth doesn’t have braces yet because my orthodontist plans on extracting 2 teeth on the bottom (one on each side). Is that really necessary? I just don’t want any of my bottom teeth get extracted

Hello! Ive been watching your channel since February when I got my braces! I got open coil springs for my 5th adjustment yesterday, I got them on my lower front teeth due to crowding, in this case will I get power chains instead of closed coil springs in my case? Love your channel btw!

I know this video is old, but are the passive coil springs supposed to be able to spin and move? Mine can move and spin on the wire an idk if that is normal or not?
