My dad, stepped into my life when I was 9 months old. Ironically I stepped into my daughter’s when she was also 9 months old. I’ve always strive to be at least half the man he was. List him in 98, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him terribly.

The man I call dad told me some heavy facts when I was in middle school, going in and out of depression because I didnt have my biological dad. He noticed I wasn't being myself and just staying in my room, coming out for dinner at the table. Eating quickly, asking to be excuses, and going back to my room. He said: "Son, so you know the difference between family and relatives?" "No." "Relatives are who you are related to by blood. Family is who you choose to love and be in your life." From that moment on, he has been the man I call dad. I now have a wife of my own. Our daughter, our first child, is due February 1st. I sent him this song. Both of us cried with each other. He hugged me, I told him I loved him, he said he loved me too, and that I will be an amazing dad. I told him hed be a wonderful grandad because he was a wonderful dad.

I lost the man I called dad back in 2007. I have to admit that I gave this man hell throughout my teens. I constantly disrespected him. He never faltered though and continued to treat me like I was biologically his. As we were standing in the church on my wedding day, he kissed my forehead, pulled my veil down, and told me I looked stunning. He held out his arm and said, "Are you ready?" All I said was, "Thank you for everything!" I will never forget his response. "You don't have to thank me! That's what daddies do!" ....but he didn't have to!

My son will be 21 in August and a couple of weeks ago he surprised me with the gift that he was changing his last name because he wanted the same last name as me and my dad. My stepdad came into my life when I was 12. He gave up his dream of living in the country so that I could go to a better school in town. He bragged about my grades. He met my dates. He taught me how to drive. He took me fishing. He walked me down the aisle. He was the greatest grandfather to my sons. At the end of his life, he trusted me to make decisions for him. I was washing off his heated body following one of his surgeries when a nurse walked in and said she was impressed by our father-daughter bond. It brought him to tears. We lost him to cancer in 1999. I imagine your stepsons feel about you that I feel about him. Rhonda

Awww.....I love it when a man cries, especially when he sees himself in these music artists videos.... I would love to jump through that screen and hug you...and to let your wife know what an amazing guy she has....But of course she probably ALREADY knows this doesn't she? I've watched that song video several times....and I've cried each time I've seen it. WOW....you must be an amazing dad. ****************************** My sister married a man that adopted her two daughters and she adopted his son. This man was everything and ALL that those children of my sister needed. I have never EVER considered that those girls (my nieces) had any OTHER dad than the one that adopted them. I don't understand how people can have children and then for whatever reason just walk away. It happens. BOTH men & women do this..... Again, You're an amazing guy, and I don't know how old your step-sons are, but they apparently have an amazing "dad" Sorry....I don't like the term "step-dad" I never heard my nieces ever call the man that was their father anything but Dad. I know for sure they never referred to him as a "step-dad" to their friends either. I remember once when one of the girls came home with a paper she did for a class. You had to draw out your family tree. Now, this niece of mine KNEW she was adopted by her step-dad.....but when she showed that paper to her mom, my sister said to her " You know, this would be a great thing to have framed and give to your dad on Father's Day." My sister & her daughter did just that. My dad made a frame for the family tree paper. He & my niece made the frame together, and my niece painted the frame this icky blue color (her dad likes blue). That frame & family tree has a place of honor in the study of their home....right above the computer desk. I'd never seen a man cry so much as I did the Father's Day he was given that present......not ever!!! (My niece was 11 yrs old at the time) I will say that the girls have met their bio dad....and they just really aren't that interested. Sure, the relationship is there...but it's a few cards and a phone call or two. THAT's it. My brother-in-law.....is their dad....in every way possible. Thanks for sharing you are a Step-Dad.....
