Sushi...the song is LITERALLY about him, at age 40 or however old he is, writing a letter TO HIMSELF at age 17, when he was in high school...a letter advising himself what to do, and what not to do, during his different high school life events AND also telling himself, at 17, that everything will turn out okay in the end. I honestly think if you didn't stop the songs to make comments during the song, you wouldn't interrupt the STORY the song is telling you and it would be easier for you to hone in on what the story in the song really is.

’Online’, ’Welcome to the Future’, ’We Danced’ and ’When I Get Where I’m Going’. ’Accidental Racist’ is a little cringey. Not Brads lines, they are really good. But LLs lines ruins the song. ”If you accept my gold chains I forget the iron chains”. That’s a very weird thing to say. Forgetting your history for a fashion statement.

@@korvkioskshelvete I get where you are coming from but I think what he was expressing was, if you would accept his culture and personality as equals to yours, he would then try and forget about the oppressive history that you gave him and then you both move forward as equals. It was all about Equality in that song.

Brad is seriously an amazing story teller and paints pictures with his words so well, and that’s why he’s one of my absolute favorite country artists out there, and why no matter how many times I’ve seen him in concert, it’s never enough. But this song in particular is very special. I actually had my son listen to it when he was going through rough times in his teen years. We’ve all had those moments in life where we think “man, if only I could go back and tell myself not to do that in high school”, or “I should have appreciated someone more”. And this song beautifully encapsulates that, and even manages to infuse some Brad Paisley humor into it at times, but not matter what, I always end up tearing up at points while listening to it. Brad is a master at grabbing your emotions in his songs. And yeah, I’m totally with you on his voice. It’s absolutely incredible what he does with it. Really hoping to see more Brad Paisley on your channel soon. If you haven’t already, I’d love to see you react to Remind Me by Brad and Carrie Underwood. Their voices together are amazing.

The line “go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can” always gets to me because it came out only a few years after my grandfather and my cousin passed away. My grandfather passed away in 2003 and my cousin passed away in 2005. It reminds that I didn’t get a chance or take the time to tell them that I loved them before they died. It’s a guilt that I’ll always carry. So I always hear “go hug pawpaw and Eugene every chance you can”.

I don't think you were paying attention to the lyrics or the point of the song. If you could write a letter to yourself when you were 17 years old, what would you tell yourself? Go hug Aunt Rita... every chance you can. That means she's gonna die and you'll regret not hugging her when she was still alive. This isn't nostalgia. It's reassurance that even though things seem so intense as a teenager, they get better and your life doesn't end. Listen to it again.
