I can definitely relate to the obvious “message” in this song. I feel like so many (especially U.S. soldiers, not sure about other countries) can directly relate to this. I just wish she would have said she can’t handle the pressure or the desire for her needs to be met. It happened to me 2 times. The aftermath of figuring that out in a wartime combat situation was so much more than what I was trained to deal with. Alcohol became my peace, and almost ended my life when I got back. I do enjoy that they also convey both sides of the issue. I can understand where she was coming from, and I experienced where it put me. I’ve since forgiven her and found the queen/woman and step children that made my life whole. The negative impact of the bombs and bullet wounds, the losing my leg, and constant memory are mostly drowned out by the positive impact of their love and the sense of purpose they give me! We are all beautifully different and deal with things differently, but I hope that my message and experience can help someone else who is going through hell. There is a positive outcome if you just weather the storm. I promise life is so much better than the dark periods we go through. You are all amazing human beings!

Great reaction, Bisscute! Alison Krauss is one of my favorite female singers. She has such a beautiful voice. If you are going to add country to your rotation, you have to listen to more from her. She has 27 Grammy award wins! That was the most by any female singer until Beyonce passed her recently. I've seen her live, and her voice is exquisite.

This is why I always loved Country Music and it is my favourite music genre. It hits the soul and the old saying about it that all you need are 3 chords and the truth. You add to that Alison Krauss' sweet voice and it is magic.

I disagree with people having "needs" that cause them to do stuff like this to others. You have wants, desires, urges, but none of those are a NEED. Diabetics NEED insulin to survive. Some people NEED medication to survive. No one NEEDS sex to survive, especially when you're screwing over someone risking their life for your freedoms. I will always fight back on people's NEEDS when it's really just something they want.

If you love depressing songs, and you’re trying to explore more country, the next song after this that you HAVE TO LISTEN TO is “Believe” by Brooks & Dunn, and make sure it’s the official video. That song along with this one are two of the most common songs people name when they talk about gut wrenching country songs with heartbreaking lyrics.

This is the first time I've heard this one. I got into Country in the 90s, so my Country knowledge is from that era and then backwards mostly, but I really haven't kept up with newer Country over the last 20 or 25 years. I know Brad Paisley is a big deal, but I don't really know him that well. Allison Krauss I do know. I believe that she started performering very young, as a little girl doing Bluegrass. Bluegrass is a sub genre of Country that I think comes out of Appalachia. The Appalachian Mountains are a range of mountains in the East of the US that run all the way up to Canada, but usually when you hear people talk about the Appalachians, it's usually in relation to the Southern end in the Southern states. When I had commented to you about Dolly Parton, I told you that she was from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, which I think are part of the Appalachians. Basically when you here people refer to it, the implication is that you're talking about some real back woods, mountain hillbilly folk kind of thing that isn't usually very flattering. So, Bluegrass is like a more acoustic style of music that involved a lot of instruments like guitar, fiddle, and banjo, that sort of evolved out of English/Scottish/Irish folk music of the people that settled up in the Appalachian Mountains. Anyway, she joined a group called Union Station at the end of the 80s, and I think are still with them, but in the mid 90s, they had a huge hit with a cover song called "When You Say Nothing At All", that was more mainstream Country, and even Pop. She really blew up after that because everyone was so amazed with her. So besides I think still being with Union Station, everyone wanted to collab with her, so she's worked with so many people, even Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, and she did music for movie soundtracks like the movies "Cold Mountain" and "O' Brother, Where Art Thou". Drinking away a memory or a broken heart is a pretty classic theme in Country music. At the beginning, I thought this was going to be like Sawyer Brown's "All These Years", although that song is a little more nuanced, and doesn't get as traumatic as anyone killing themselves, but they were a good band in the 90s, and it's probably my favorite song of theirs, that's a very beautiful song about infidelity, but not quite as depressing. I think I've seen that somewhat recently they've even done like an Unplugged version of it that you can find, though I'm personally kind of partial to the original.

This song hits home and hits hard. I've lost more brothers to the fallout of coming home than I did in theater. This is a song I love and hate at the same time. This, and Sawyer Brown's "All These Years" are painful, but something about it keeps drawing you back.

Unfortunately, this song means even more to me now than it ever did. My cousin passed away in May. He was an alcoholic, but what ended his life was when he tried to inhale a can of air duster. It crystalized his lungs, and that was all there was to it. He passed away on May 14, 2024. His girlfriend asked me if I wanted to be with her about a week or so later. She was also an alcoholic. She and I were together for about a month and a half, and she passed away from a seizure that led to a stroke. It happened on July 11, 2024. She was cutting down her alcohol intake everyday we were together, and she was well on her way to recovering, but when she had that seizure, it ended everything. I was at work when it happened. Alcohol wasn't the final nail in either of their coffins, but it was a strong contributing factor to the decline of their health for years. We were singing parts of this song one day, and I said, "Please don't let those lyrics become literal in their meaning with you and Paul. He has passed, but you're still here. Don't go down the same way he did." She said she didn't want to die. She wanted to live because her relationship with me was far more tranquil and peaceful than any other she has had with anyone else she's ever been with. The others were fun when it was good, but when it was bad, it was the worst ever. We never had traumatic moments in our relationship because my priority was her mental and physical health. I never made it about me. It was always about her. Inspite of my efforts, she still passed away long before her time. I miss her so much. I've never known the weight of separation in a relationship, but I do now. It feels like I have a 30 ton anchor chained to my heart, and I'm dragging around with me everywhere I go. I don't wish this on anyone. Thank you, Biss, for the reaction. Awesome as usual. \m/

Alison Krauss has a version of "Down to the river to pray" which is AMAZING. (old time "gospel"/religious-leaning song) Featured in the movie "Old Brother Where Art Thou" and no matter how many times you hear it, her version just "hits something" inside you that makes it kind of both mandatory to suggest and addictive to listen to.

Music should involve many kinds of feelings as you listen to it. We have the ability to feel more than one emotion at a time. A great, great movie, great book should play on more than one feeling at a time.

As Sir Elton John said “Sad Songs Say So Much” Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain And ironin' out the rough spots Is the hardest part when memories remain And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio 'Cause from the lips of some old singer We can share the troubles we already know

Well Biss you've done it again. I've come to the conclusion that the songs you really like are the songs that hit way too close to home for me personally. Keep being you Mel, we ❤you and as always, BIG HUGS from America!

One of the saddest songs ever, and one of the best first lines of a song ever. "She put him out, like the burning end of a midnight cigarette". This is the sort of song that country does better than anyone. It's raw, real, emotional, and doesn't paint anyone as a true good or bad person. Everyone involved is just... human. Have you heard "Stay" by Sugarland yet?

This beautiful song reminds us that even when a war ends, it continues to make victims. Thanks Biss 🌺

I love this song and the way their voices blend together. But it's still hard. After my aunt left my uncle he did the same thing. She then spent the next two years drinking herself to death, leaving behind their three kids.

If you want a song that will really make you think, there's a song written in 1895 that is shockingly relevant today. It's titled 'Picture From Life's Other Side'. 10/10 highly recommend

Brad Paisley is from my home state of West Virginia. He's a real talent at vocals and guitar playing both. He writes a lot of he's own songs. I could have told you to have a box of tissues handy. Where I'm from they call that cry in your beer music.😭🍺💔

Well three great ones like this, “Arlington” Trace Adkins, “American Soldier” Toby Keith, “Far away” Nickelback. Far away is a different kind of service but still honorable mention.
