Colette is the best part of the movie for me. She wasn't kidding about restaurants being a male dominated industry, even getting into to cooking schools, french culinary ones no less, is a massive undertaking. Imagine you go through that, get a job at a prestigious restaurant and they saddle you with teaching "Intro to Kitchens" to a former garbage boy with NO prior experience. Her career is getting booted so some random guy with a smidgen of talent gets to pop in out of nowhere. And her line "thank you for taking it" about her advice... How many men do you think she gave tips to and they brushed her off because "she's woman".

Aww bestie, I hope everything gets better for you eventually. I was also bullied at school after I came out. It was seriously one of the worst moments in my life. I felt resentful and embarrassed to go to school because I was treated so horribly. However, I have grown to understand and appreciate the importance of loving myself and since then, I don’t care about what others think about me anymore because I don’t need those homophobes to determine my happiness. There's a very impressive theory that the old lady in the beginning is Ego's mother, and also that Gusteau is Ego's brother! This is evidenced by the fact that she's wearing the same thing in Ego's flashback when she made ratatouille, and if you look, there is what appears to be a portrait of Gusteau hanging in the background. The theory is essentially: Ego's always been hard on Gusteau because he felt like Gusteau sold out, and thus dedicated his own life to preserving their mothers teachings and recipes. The dish that cost Gusteau one of his stars was the ratatouille dish, because it was a far cry from the one they ate when they grew up with. This also perfectly sets up the ending, because its not just the realization that it's delicious, it's the realization of, "They did it. They finally perfected our mothers recipe!"

Love this movie, one of my favorite Pixar movies, if not my favorite. Love it even more since they made my favorite ride at Disneyland Paris where you get to see things from a rat's perspective, along with an actual restaurant that looks like the tiny rat restaurant at the end. It's very lovely, they made a whole Paris area with a shop and a square outside, and every year there's a food and wine festival where you can taste food both from France and other countries. I haven't been back there for some years now, but watching this makes me really want to go there again.
