This song is proof that Queen could turn almost any subject matter into a hit song. That's why they're my favorite classic rock band.

I get what you're saying, but it's not like there aren't literally dozens of successful songs out there talking about girls with big butts 😂😂 Now, being in love with your car? Now that's a subject that's hard to write a hit song about lmfao.

Freddie was so theatrical and so completely committed to performance it brings a ton of juice to the audience. Reminds me of Bob Seager's line "Ever ounce of energy you try to give away" and he fires energy into the crowd like a laser cannon.

This was really fun!! P.S.... Brian May (lead guitarist) wrote this song. And even though Freddie was gay (he did swing the other way in his younger days).... he LOVED this song!! Now you HAVE to follow this up with "BICYCLE RACE"!! That song is what Freddie is referencing when he sings "get on your bike's and ride" at the end of this video!!! The "Bicycle Race" video is awesome and you'll definitely get a HUGE kick out of it!! It's a MUST SEE for sure!! GREAT reaction, you guys are too much fun!! ;)

Truth is Freddie was never just gay. He was beyond bi, he was "Try-Sexual" as in willing to try anything. He just had a lot of energy :) I imagine if he were alive and young today he'd identify as non-binary or pan or one of those other non-conforming identities.
@tinagilbert8902
@tinagilbert8902 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zundfolge I hear what you're saying for sure!! But to take it a step further.... I think Freddie was against labels. That was part of his struggles. He just wanted to be himself and wanted the same for others.... I think for him.... labels need-not-apply. He was simply a good human being and rejected labels of any kind... just my thoughts. Peace... :)

i love how he was such a true queen about it and yet he showed such respect for the beauty and sensuality of women. As I got older, I saw his appreciation for all things beautiful and exciting. He didn't embrace just gay or straight. He embraced life to it's fullest. That's part of the reason why their music still resonates today. They embraced everyone before it was a fad.

Whatever the reason, this song is still as much fun today as when it was first released. Everyone of my friends in California loved this song, no matter their bottom size. Nice reaction, thank you. There is a Queen companion song to this one called Bicycle Race. In that video there are something like 20 or 50 naked girls on bicycles riding around the field at Wembley. It is a fun video as well.

@@janematthews3394 yeah lol I think people are taking that out of context, and also not understanding Freddie's Flippen ways. Freddie said other things too, such as I sleep with everyone, I've tried both sides. Most of Freddie's friends recognized him as Bisexual, they also said when he was with gay friends he would play up that side, and visa versa, so I'll stick with what Freddie said, rather than what people perceive him to be.

@@deboraclark5791 Actually most of his friends say he qas gay. Including Brian, Roger AND Mary. So does his sister, his stylist and his personal assistant. It's all there in documentaries. And Freddie did refer to himself as gay in private among friends. After Mary he was only with men. When he went out he went to gay bars. If he himself says he was gay and his friends who were close to him and knew him say he was gay, then he was gay and it shouldn't be dismissed. I find it very disrespectful when people do that.

In the 56 years I've been on this planet and the thousands and thousands of songs I've ever heard, this is, without a doubt, my #1 all time favourite... simple beat, great groove, fantastic grungy/sleazy guitar sound, incredible drum fills, Freddy, well, it's Freddy, what more needs to be said, and as always, those amazing harmonies. But I don't think the lyrics were ever supposed to be taken "literally". It's not "necessarily" about big butts, it's about finding beauty in unconventional "shapes". In the second verse he says, "I've seen every blue-eyed floozy 'long the way, but their beauty and their smiles were kind of smooth after a while, take me to those lardy ladies every time." And there are other songs along the same lines... Jimmy Soul's "Never make a pretty woman your wife" and Dr Hook's "When you're in Love with a Beautiful Woman", both of which point out the problems of being with somebody when you know every dog in town is sniffing around them, and worse, that if she wanted to, it wouldn't be hard for her to have anyone she wanted, and if you really want to stretch things, there's always ACDC's "Whole Lotta Rosie" who wasn't a "conventional" beauty by any means, but sure managed to rock Bon Scott's world, and that, apparently, is actually a true story. So no, Fat Bottomed Girls isn't necessarily about Fat Bottomed Girls, it's just about finding happiness with someone who rocks your world. "I've got mortgages and homes, I've got stiffness in my bones, ain't no "beauty queens" in this locality... but I still get my pleasure, still got my greatest treasure, heap big woman you done made a big man of me." If it works for you, the hell with everybody else. :)

In the 70s and 80s it was a thing to pair songs together and play them back to back. FBG always led into Bicycle Race. We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions was another.

Love this song!! Brian wrote this song for Freddie cuz he did appreciate “junk in the trunk” in both men & women 😉 But you gotta see this song performed live in Milton Keynes 1982. It’s completely Fire 🔥🔥🔥 Freddie even pole dances with the scaffolding!! 🔥🔥🔥 It’s HOT 🥵 OMG!! The companion song to this is called BICYCLE RACE (written by Freddie) inspired by the Tour de France! Let me just say it’s a bicycle race (wink wink). 🚴🚴🏻‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴

Hey guys, I just came across your videos today. I've watched about 9 videos. These are all great jams I grew up listening to and still listen to today. I have a bunch of suggestions, but 2 for now. Surprised to see you haven't done a George Thorogood song yet. Most famous is Bad to the Bone. But listen to One bourbon, one scotch, one beer. The story line is of that era. I like how he goes into detail with his lyrics when he tells his story. Sounds like two different songs. Another recommendation is Three Dog Night....Never Been to Spain. Very smooth flowing and enjoyable song. Look forward to seeing your reactions to those two songs. Alright, take it easy...and if it's real easy, take it twice. Ha

Despite the epic tune, Ironically Freddie it seems wasn't really into girls, he had a long time relationship with a dude at a time when such relationships were frowned upon if not illegal in a lot of places.

There is a reason he named the band "Queen". He was bi though and always referred to his female ex fiancee as the love of his life and she got most of his estate in his will.

@@BunniMonster Freddie came up with Queen because he wanted a royal sounding name. I don't think it had to do with sexuality since the other 3 members we all straight.

@@neillenet291 He said that (And it's obvious that) he was fully aware of "Queen" referring to gay men and enjoyed the multiple interpretations, in fact he constantly referenced liking these connotations that were separate from the royal interpretation and wanted to shock and be outrageous. He said he preferred people to see it in the royal sense but that the other meaning had played a part in the naming process. The band wasn't very happy with the change of name from Smile to Queen but Freddie always got his way.

As a guy in his 30s, let me say that from what I remember, small butts were never a thing. What was a thing was skinny girls, which inevitably meant small butts as a by-product. Big butts weren’t a thing either like they are now but it wasn’t as if guys were lusting after the girl with the smallest ass. Guys were lusting after skinny girls who usually had a small butt as part of the package. Of course this is a great generalisation so just an observation of the wider culture of the 90s/00s.
