Devil Inside is the second song released from their Kick album. It went to #2 in the US and stayed there for a couple of weeks. Many people have said Michael's vocal performance and the guitar riff makes this song great. I tend to agree. Anyway, Lex, you were right on the money when you said you couldn't get a feel for who they are musically. The beauty about INXS is they don't play the same sh*t over and over. Their debut album had a ska sound to it. Their second and third were more 80s new wave. The fourth was a little more pop. Their fifth, Listen Like Thieves, harkens back to their days as a pub band in Sydney. Their sixth and most successful, Kick, is a mix of funk, rock, blues and a little rap w/Mediate. Their seventh, X, has more of a blues sound. Their eighth, Welcome To Wherever You Are, is different from all the rest. They took some musical risks and it's, I think, their most underrated album. Their ninth, Full Moon Dirty Hearts, is their grunge album. And the last one w/Michael, Elegantly Wasted, is their darkest. Michael was going through some stuff at that point in his life and you can hear it in the lyrics. My suggestion is, if you want to get to know them better, start w/their popular albums, Kick, Listen Like Thieves and X. Then, work your way through the catalog. You'll hear some of everything and not one of their albums sounds like the next. That is the beauty of INXS. And that's also the beauty of Led Zeppelin and that's why they're my favorite bands.

I loved Lex's response " I wonder how many kids were made to that"? Lol. The Kick album is one of the best albums of the 80's. Stands the Test of time. I recently asked a younger coworker if she knew who INXS was? She heard of them, but wasn't familiar with their songs.. I recommended KICK to her.. She came back the next morning and said that she absolutely loved it, giving it a 5/5. Some other INXS songs to consider are New Sensation, Suicide Blonde and Not Enough Time.

We have our own rock genre "Pub Rock" which is uniquely Aussie, if they survived the Pub Rock Scene of Australia then they'd make it in this world & survive anything & the boys made it internationally & never forgot where they came from & still live in Sydney's Northern Beaches where they grew up which is great... Unlike another Aussie band that did sell their souls to make it internationally & u rarely see them on the golden soil that made them

Suicide was most likely intentional on his part at that time. The pain he was in the hours before about his personal life, the argument with Bob Geldof hours before, the voicemails he left with his agent (Martha Troup) and a very close ex-girlfriend all speak to his state of mind at the time. The documentary "Mystify - Michael Hutchence" that came out n 2019 really goes into depth about all his struggles and what all lead up to that fateful day in 1997.
