The early 80's were like a new dawn breaking. You had MTV, BMX, surf culture, new wave, video games, Van Halen updating hard rock, Michael Jackson and Prince updating funk and soul. It was the perfect time to be a kid.

INXS fan here!!!! I was in my last year of Primary School when this came out 😮 I had an INXS T-shirt that I wore throughout my teenage years. Michael Hutchence lead singer was discovered in Perth Western Australia, the State I’m from (RIP).This song was from their Shabooh Shoobah Album released in 1982, 40 years ago this year. I agree that it is timeless.

Michael's got that Mick Jagger swagger goin' on. There's something about these punky '80's guitar riffs that have a sort of Carillon vibe. Distant, echoing, eerie, mysterious. That odd dancing was so familiar in the '80's! 😆✨🎶

It's tough to go wrong with INXS. These guys had some of the greatest and most memorable guitar hooks in music and not only was Michael Hutchence a charismatic front man, the guy could sing. I always loved that touch of punk in the guitars in the song mixed with the bittersweet lyrics and that moody synth opening. Great review - you guys are old souls.

While my music obsession began in the late 60's, listening to Sabbath, Zeppelin, and the like....I did have this album as well. INXS were ahead of their time. Last year, I played "Don't Change" for some friends of mine who were not familiar with the song, and they all thought it was a song from the late 1980s or early 1990s. They were shocked when I told them it was from 1983. In all, INXS had 19 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from 1983-2005, including 11 Top 40 hits, seven Top 10 hits, and one #1 hit. Here's a list of their Top 40 hits in chronological order: "The One Thing" (#30 in 1983) "What You Need" (#5 in 1986) "Need You Tonight" (#1 in 1988) "Devil Inside" (#2 in 1988) "New Sensation" (#3 in 1988) "Never Tear Us Apart" (#7 in 1988) "Suicide Blonde" (#9 in 1990) "Disappear" (#8 in 1991) "Not Enough Time" (#28 in 1992) "Elegantly Wasted" (#27 in 1997) "Pretty Vegas" (#37 in 2005) Original lead singer Michael Hutchence died in 1997 due to autoerotic asphyxiation, so "Pretty Vegas" was sung by J.D. Fortune, who won a "reality TV" contest show called Rock Star: INXS to become the new lead singer of the band. I see that you've already heard most of INXS's Top 40 hits already, so I'm going to recommend "The One Thing," "What You Need," "Disappear," "Not Enough Time" and "Elegantly Wasted." Also, since you're now delving into their not-Top 40 hits ("Don't Change" peaked at #80 on the Hot 100 in 1983), I'm going to further recommend "Original Sin" (#58 in 1984), "Listen Like Thieves" (#54 in 1986) and "Bitter Tears" (#46 in 1991). "Pretty Vegas" is also worth a listen, because J.D. Fortune sounds similar to Michael Hutchence without trying too hard.

80's party in the kitchen! Are you kidding me? People definitely could bump and grind to this music and also that goes back to the DJ or if it's live the setlist. It's not like it's all exactly at this same tempo with exactly the same feel. But these songs got so so popular that even though they weren't my favorite band exactly I just heard them so much and if we were out and somebody was really blasting it and everybody was dancing, it still was pretty fun and it became part of the fabric of my young adulthood. Along with a whole lot of other stuff. I liked harder stuff than this at the time but I did buy one of their CDs and it was awesome.

This is young Inxs! New wave/post-punk/dance-punk. I have not seen that video in forever! Good find. When I was little. Early 1980s. They were a fun good new wave, post-punk, alternative rock band in the '80s and '90s. Look more into their other videos and songs. We used to dance to that kind of music in the '80s and early '90s. Inxs, The Cure, U2, Depeche Mode, Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and Banshees, Billy Idol, Prince, Adam and the Ants, Fine Young Cannibals, and more. At the alternative, punk, new wave clubs and school dances. jaja. You just let loose and go. :-) Bands in the future like The Killers, Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and others are inspired from this kind of music. Look into those bands too!

Wasn't the biggest INXS fan growing up as a Aussie, never understood why them out of all these great bands from here at the time they were the ones to break into America but as i got older they grew on me. Disappear is my fave song of theirs, should check that out. RIP Michael Hutchence

INXS and U2 both had a way to tackle darker issues but not in a hopeless way. A lot of the darker music out there doesn't have an answer. These guys are saying that there are answers even in the darkness, which always appealed to me. It was a different kind of rebellion.

Probably the INXS song that gets slipped on the most. An absolute undeniable classic. I was fortunate enough to see them play live five times, including some in small clubs and once with third row center seats.

My favorite INXS song. Right time, as some have mentioned and just something about the "feels" it gives. Kind of melancholy, but always in motion. Blooming is a good description for how it picks right up from what I feel is melancholy. Probably that back and forth that sticks with me.

One of the best concerts ever in my life… was INXS. It was like 2 hours of pure energy… and hit after hit. From beginning to end… No one was sitting down. Those were the days. 🎉

I can remember the transition from the mostly solo, energetic dancing in the early 90’s, a continuation from the 80’s, into the "too cool for school," bump and grind that took over. Seemed to happen over the course of my middle school and high school dances. It was very depressing. School dances just weren’t fun by the end of it. Prom was so boring 😅 Love INXS, Hutchence was really channeling Mick Jagger dance moves early on.

This one made me smile! I played the drums in a band who did this song back then. I can't get that 80"s style dancing out of my head now! lol

Very upbeat and positive. One of my favorite 80s tunes for sure. Love videos where the band is actually smiling and happy instead of moody and frowning at the camera.

Can’t miss with early INXS! This is a classic BTW-bump and grind type dancing existed in the 80’s but was made by other artists tho--like Prince

Nice to see a younger generation appreciate an older generation's music. As a teen in the 80s, there's no better music in my opinion. I listened to my parent's 1950s doo-wop. Some day your child(ren) will do the same. It's an encouraging signal of parenting and a well-rounded upbringing.

MIchael was a cool guy... (then sadly, got lost, maybe result of a brain injury)... saw them twice in '80 in small pub gigs, super tight band... super professional, awesome sound live.. nice one

Really interesting doco, or something I read can't remember, they were recording or writing in Capri and something happenned to Michael, he lost his sense of smell and his hearing was effected it made him suffer really bad mood swings, getting pissed off with band members. I think that was the catalyst then all the bullshit with Bob Geldoff. He was truly one of the greatest frontmen, like Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger, Bono.
