I wanted to cover this song in a band once but we didn't have what we needed to keep the song full. There's a lot of effects in this one. The greatest honesty though, I couldn't hold that bass line, that long, that clean! I got to meet "Teddy" when he came on board and once we started talking shop, he had to ask me how Rock Me sounded. I just returned the question. "Why? Did somebody say something?" He said no, but that he had struggled to get the meter right. I'm a finger player, as was Ted, but my fingers always found a way to be a tick off every 3rd or 4th measure. I've always loved Mark Kendall's work. To hear your appreciation for him does the heart good because NO ONE talks about him in those "greatest guitar player" conversations. He's got the BEST feel!

In this episode of Brad & Lex, the bluesy bass and guitars are the grand opening until the unexpected harmonica scores an "ooh" from Lex slightly jarring Brad who's look means everything. "Where is this going?", he asked anxiously more forcefully each time until Jack Russell's sultry vocals eases the tension but continues to test Brad's patience until the introduction of drum kicks, snares and a strong hearty chorus medicate him which produces a "side to side sway". Lex will proceed with "handlebar", "benchwarmer", and "bobblehead bops" equipped with "soul face" before giving a positive report on her experience in which Brad will label the 1987 tune a "classic rock" song, then proceeding with a drug slang term theory before rocking on into a breakdown that earns four more "oohs" in total from Lex as she "bops" out in guitar shreddin heaven.

Great White is a Blues Rock Band. Lex, i love your enthusiasm on the song. It's wonderful to see how much you enjoyed this. Rock music isnt always about BAM BAM BAM GO GO GO. They are a blues band. Their music builds as the song goes. Most of their misic is like this. Brad, dont be so impatient, just sit back, its coming. As far as the Fire at that concert, it wasnt their fault. The manager of the bar was the decision maker it what happened and one of the band members was killed as a result as well as fans. The song has nothing to do with drugs. It has everything to do with a man trying to seduce a woman. Ive been listening to this band for 45yrs. Glad to see yall enjoyed this. If you love blues structured music, keep listening to them.

These guys were involved in a huge tragedy, when I was a fireman we reviewed a Great White concert they preformed at a small bar in R.I. pyrotechnics were set off and it set off a massive fast moving fire . Some people didn’t seem to take it serious for a few minutes and then massive hysteria broke out , people running everywhere trying to escape through thick smoke. Unfortunately 100 died and 200 were injured in the blaze and if I recall right one of the band members died also. I’m sure this event will haunt this band forever.

The Station club was totally engulfed within 90 seconds. People stood in shock for 30 seconds before trying to escape. Once they did try, the bottleneck at the narrow exit caused most to perish. Those that survived reacted immediately. I've seen the videos from that night and the victims screams are horrifying. I've been to a few concerts at that club and never thought about the possibility of it happening. Then again, none of the shows I saw there had pyrotechnics. Rest in peace to all the victims.

The guitarist who died wasnt from the older line ups. Ty Longley was only in the band a few years before his passing. Mark Kendall is the main guitarist for most of their run. "I know how I wrote the song. Marty, who was our bass player in my band, Marty Jones, his father was one of the few Americans who have ever had a successful career as a Flamenco guitar player in Spain. He plays as David Serva in Madrid. And he had come back to America to visit for a few months and he was doing some shows with his old Flamenco troupe. So, we went over to San Francisco to the Mission and we went to the show. Then afterwards, we were out drinking with the Flamenco troupe. We ended up in a bar at one point late that night and in the corner of the bar, was Chris Isaak’s drummer, Kenny Dale Johnson. At that point, Chris Isaak’s band was the hottest rockabilly band in the city. They were the shit hot rockabilly band. And he was sitting in the corner with three girls. I remember just talking about it with Marty, saying, ‘Man, we have got to get our shit together and become rock stars.’ We couldn’t even talk to girls. I remember I went home that night and I wrote the song. I don’t really remember much about writing it except that I wrote it in the middle of the night pretty drunk, I think."

As much as I adore Zeppelin, Still Of The Night is a awesome piece of music and sexy as f*ck!
Love the commentary.. Brad said "Blues Rock" and you are right that Great White is that.. and Lex always gets the vibe of a song so well.. I recommend you listen to "Call it Rock N' Roll" by this band..

For what it's worth, Great White was one of those 1980's bands that I got really sick of. I used to refer to the music they put out for pop audiences as "formula rock" performed by Hair Bands. Always the power chords to qualify them as 'hard rock' but with a singing style that has always turned me off for some reason (I was surprised to see an interview recently where I heard Robert Plant also call it "formula rock", lol!) There were a few exceptions here and there during the 1980's but I basically suffered through the 1980's musically until first Metallica and then Grunge appeared to save the day. I actually liked some of the "Techno-pop" (The Cure, Depeche Mode) that the 1980's produced more than the Formula Rock that was forced down our throats. That's one guy's opinion...

So much tragedy connected to this band, unfortunately. Huge fire broke out at one of their shows and killed a whole bunch of people. So sad. Another good song is Don't Close Your Eyes.

Yes. "Killer Show" is a great read about that horrible fire that broke out at their show.

Saw this group 2 years in a row at a club(Attic) in Greenville, NC in early 90's. The last time club was overcapacity and full fire Brigade was in club with exits opened and fire trucks outside.Second show had Bobby Blotzer(Ratt) on drums. 🤘

Was never a big Great White fan. But, this song is exceptional. I've always loved the guitar work. Save Your Love is another good one.

Funny story...when I was like 9-10 years old me and my neighbor kids used to play "Once Bitten Twice Shy" each kid played or attempted to play a different instrument. Older kid on guitar , my best friend on keyboard, me and other kid on vocals, another kid had a kiddy drum. We used to go camping together with 2-3 other families on our culdesac so we planned on doing a "concert" of once bitten twice shy" in the summer , of course we never did that but the song is classic and brings back good memories. I guess this is a long winded post to request a reaction to "Once Bitten Twice Shy" by Great White lol.

I love that y'all liked this. ♥ The structure of the music is indeed art. The bass lines, harmonica, guitar breaks, and vocals push this song towards the top-o-my list of 80s classic rock songs. ☺

I promoted two Great White albums (1st and 3rd albums) for the label they were on. I've hung out with these guys too many times to count let alone the 30 or more times I've seen them live. Love these guys. I just sent Great White's guitarist, Mark Kendall, the link to this video. He's gonna love it!
