It's not really actually even. If one were to say The narrator sounds as if he wouldn't consider changing course to stay on the same path. This is a bit of conjecture but if theu had any interest in them the narrator would know where they are going. This song communicating more about independent by extension journey of stood discovery & growth. Yes that can certainly happen from other people but coming from oneself is equally if not more important l.

Maury made an album titled Gingerbreadd. They only made 11,000 copies which were sent to radio stations to be played. It is a fantastic album with many great songs. Unfortunately Maury's album was lost in the shuffle when so much great music appeared in the early 70's. The story goes that Jim and Maury were a duo with the understanding that if one of them hit it big, the other would be his guitarist. Jim's deep voice was an instant hit , leaving Maury to play guitar next to Jim. If you watch any Jim Croce live appearances, the guy next to him is Maury Muehleisen. While traveling to an appearance they both died in a plane crash on September 30, 1973. What a shame to lose two such talents at the peak of their careers. I can only imagine the great music they would have produced had they not been on that plane.

I almost cried when I heard this song play in Django Unchained. Tarantino uses it in the "working" montage after Django accepts Schultz's offer to go into business together and finally starts earning a living as a free man. The whole sequence made me realize there's more to freedom than just being unchained: folks also need career opportunities and purpose to live their lives with dignity.

My dad went to high school with him (Upper Darby HS outside of Philadelphia, same as Tina Fey, Cheri Oteri, and Todd Rundgrend). This song came out the day after he died. He was an amazing folk artist that left us way too early. "On the night of Thursday, September 20, 1973, during Croce's Life and Times tour and the day before his ABC single "I Got a Name" was released, Croce and five others were killed when their chartered Beechcraft E18S crashed into a tree during takeoff from the Natchitoches Regional Airport in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Croce was 30 years old." #phillyheart #phillysoul #phillylove #phillysmarts

Ed this song wasn't written by Maury. Maury wrote Salon and Saloon from the album named I've got a name. That was Jim's 5th and final album and was released after his death. Maury's song was the last one Jim ever recorded. What a loss of both of them. It's like the day the music died all over again.

You guys will think I'm crazy but it was so beautiful to me to see you listening to this and being so open minded to it I just cried. My dad used to play guitar and sing all of Jim Croce's songs back in the 70's and as kids we would all sit around him on the floor and listen to him sing and play. Those were different times and, like Lex mentioned, there was a friendlier and more relaxed energy to life back then and I think it comes out in this music.

A musician in a similar vein is RODRIGUEZ. " COLD FACT " AND " COMING FROM REALITY " are two albums he is famous for. Some of you will be aware that a Documentary was made about RODRIGUEZ after he was found working on a building site. In regards to JIM CROCE, he would be one of the most lamented musicians of all time. The sadness and tragedy of his death, makes me choke with emotions and hold back the tears. In 1973, when the News came through on Australian media that he had died in a plane crash, I was only 12 yrs old. Jim had only just broken through into the Commercial World of Music. His Hit songs were being played on 2SM radio in Sydney. The word that Lex is looking for is ' engaging ' Jim's voice and story telling was very engaging.

Lex said it seemed like her dad singing to her. My dad did sing Jim Croce to me, and played the album for me. It's some of my best memories as a kid. I miss both of them.

Not sure why, but this song made me tear up this morning. Heard this song 100 times before, but today it got me today.

"Operator" is such a sad and yet beautiful song. I really hope you guys listen to it soon. Croce was a wise man with a gift for storytelling.

I'm a Dad. I raised my two kids alone. I play guitar my son is a drummer and my daughter is a keyboard Wizz. We used to do this one. Croce was a great song writer and singer. Another great one gone way to soon.

My dad had a tape of Croce's greatest hits, and we didn't have a tape deck in the house (this was early 90's) only in one of the cars (we had a bunch of cars, though). So we'd sit out in the car and jam to that cassette. Some of my fondest memories, for sure.

Yes,I get you, my Dad raised us with music with stories and stories with morals. We would roll our eyes…. but I’m glad for the memories ❣️

Used to do this song on the streets of Vancouver in '78. Life and music took me in different directions later, but I still love it.

He was such a young man when he died. I love the singer song writer songs of the 60's and 70's. I also love the Righteous Brothers, the Temptations, Spinners, Carpenters, Harry Chapin, BJ Thomas and too many others to name. The music was good with no auto-tune and no one jumping around onstage like a flea circus. Strait music that had meaningful lyrics that is still so beautiful.

Man, this is my favorite Jim Croce song and it always was and will be. I love so many of them but this song to me represents the wanderlust, freedom, and searching that was such a thing in those days! Even though I was just like 11 or 12 when this came out. My heart was influenced by my older sister and it was with Jim when I heard this on the radio.

Tarantino’s use of this song in Django was one of the most beautiful use of music in a movie ever. It was his most truly sensitive moments on film ever

This beautiful song was famously used in the movie Django Unchained for the winter montage as to show the father/son, teacher/student, mentor/protege bond forming between Django and Dr. King Schultz....
