Sat in the instrument display tent (music retailer tent) which had around 200 people in it at the time playing various versions of Smoke on the water, when this scrawny short pale guy with glasses and a cap sat down beside me in the Jackson booth and started playing some Malmsteen licks on this Green Meanie with me and a acquaintance of mine. We both knew who this guy was and just let him be him self for about 30 minutes when we all of a sudden started playing Downfall and later Needled. A group of 10 Finnish, mildly inebriated, COB fans noticed us and our session ended. That was a nice day. (Got my ass signed by Satchel that day as well)

Awesome tribute, Brad 🤘 I got into Children of Bodom when I was 18 in 2012 & had just begun my final year of chemo. A few years before, I was also getting into much heavier music (which was less than a year i was diagnosed with Leukemia) & had heard a bit of them on Guitar Hero 5 (Done with Everything, Die for Nothing & is still a fave of mine) & Brutal Legend (Angels Don't Kill, wasn't an instant fave but it grew on me) but when I did get into them, the song & album that really sold me was Are You Dead Yet? I've been a huge fan ever since. I've unfortunately only seen them live once & that was what I didn't think would be their last ever show in the UK, that being Bloodstock 2019. I also play guitar & had lessons from 2015 until a couple of months before the lockdown. I still pick it up from time to time but I'm still not an expert in it. I'm also still not good but I enjoy doing riffs. Alexi Laiho will be missed (he still is to this day) & i can't help but wonder what more he would've done with Bodom After Midnight.

Kind of "funny" to see how people of my generation, which is yours (I'm 30 now), react to this tragic event. CoB was the first extreme metal band I really listened to, and I loved it mainly because of the incredible guitar work (Alexi of course, but Roope is an amazing player too). My first step on guitar was Maiden and Metallica, my second step was CoB. I played so many riffs, tried to play so many solos, Alexi was my first guitar idol, my first inspiration. I barely stopped listening to CoB for several years, even if I came back to it with nostalgia sometimes. But when I learned the news, I was deeply sad. As if a part of myself, as a musician and a passionate, was gone. As you, I listened all the amazing songs and solos that made my musician youth, and I was blown away. First, because the stuff still sounds amazing today, I still think that Alexi is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, melodic metal composer from our generation. But especially because I realized that many elements of my guitar playing today, are from Alexi's playing, even if I barely don't listen to that kind of stuff anymore. From his solos of course, but also from his riffs (Hate Crew Deathroll/Are You Dead Yet/Blooddrunk era is sooooooooo good for this). Great video as always Bradley, and thank you for the honest tribute. I feel the same as you, and thanks to tributes like yours, his work and musicianship will be spread to current generations. And most of all, thank you Alexi, may you rest in peace. You were a true metalhead, with both good and bad sides of it. Your work and your influence will live forever in the music you loved.

If I had to pick a top moment, I'd pick the latest. Watching the band live in pouring rain. My first ever metal gig not completely drunk. They start playing Hecate's Nightmare. Never cared much for that song. Then the songs picks up the pace. The intensity suddenly rises. Things are moving. Then the chorus come the first time, and pyro flames blow high as hell, the stage is engulfed in flames. The song is heavy as fuck, the album version sounds like Britney Spears next to that live version. The high point of the great show. Sure wish I'd have done something else for the last 20 years other than drinking and missing out so much while going to gigs.

It is nice seeing real tributes like this, there are a lot of people looking for views with just a slideshow of pics, but I really enjoy "true tributes" like yours. Thanks! Also, long-time subscriber, I was kinda excepting your video hehe.

Children of Bodom was one of the first metal bands I got into, they were my favorite for several years and I'm very glad I got to see them once, though I wish the circumstances had been better, I'm still glad to have seen them. Alexi's music is always going to be a big part of me

This is unreal. Last week I had the urge of listening to CoB again after a while. Was watching some shows from 2017-2019 and was happy to see Alexi playing tight again. I didn't even know they had split! Now I see your video on the recommendations and learn he passed. What the fuck man. I'm truly shocked

Just discovered your channel - and finding this tribute was priceless! Firstly, a huge well done for your performance! I think that you got his 'spirit' and 'vibe'! Wonderful job - and thanks for including Next in Line, which is one of my favorite CoB songs... As a peer with Alexi Laiho (1979), I discovered them when "Something Wild" came out, and due to the fact that we were the same age (as with the majority of the band), I kind of felt that he was a schoolmate of mine! So I was devastated with his death - and still am, to be honest. I love his crazy ideas, his musical genious, his dexterity and musical education, so contrary with his looks! Add to all these his humble character and approachfulness (if this word exists) and then you get the recipe for his success!

Ive got a similar back story with COB, Alexi was the reason I started playing guitar in school, he was a massive influence for me. His death hit harder than I thought it would... RIP to a true metal hero Awesome video man, wish I could play Alexi's riffs and solos that well, never been able to play them clean enough

Brad, I'm speechless. First time I ever heard this guy play was back in -99 or -00. I was blown away. That changed my life forever. I'm an old guy now but still after 20 something years I still find myself playing Alexi's sweeps or licks. That guy is gonna live forever through entire generation of younger guitarists. Today I drank the whole goddamn bottle of Jameson because I read the news. I still remember hearing him the first time like it was just yesterday. It changed my life forever. Thank you for making this video. 🤘

I remember when I first heard Alexi play, it was the cover of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi and I was amazed! What always sparked my interest in Alexis' work was how it was super heavy and shredy but also melodic as all hell!! He will be missed

Fantastic tribute video! I remember buying a Guitar World issue (I think it was Guitar World) in which they published the arpeggios for the chorus of You're Better Off Dead, and I think that issue was accompanied by a video demonstration of Alexi playing it. At that time, my number one influence for lead guitar was Kirk Hammett and I was kinda stuck in a rut. When I heard and saw Alexi playing in that clip, I was instantly hooked and I practiced those arpeggios over and over, I'm sure much to the annoyance of my then partner and neighbors. Learning COB songs improved my playing and opened a new chapter in my musical taste. Many thanks and much love to Alexi and to you. Cheers!

I remember back in 99, when I was about 13 years old and listening predominantly to Korn, Deftones, and early 90s alt-rock... a friend came over after school and threw on Something Wild... the first riff of Lake Bodom, and I was absolutely hooked. Alexi was so innovative, putting together heavy thrash-like riffs with Yngwie'esque virtuosity.
