different types of brushes:- - [ ] rat tail comb - hair styling, sectioning of hair, hair colouring, braiding - [ ] regular comb - 1/2 inch widetooth, haircuts, for knots, - [ ] wide tooth comb - for knots, can be used in shower with the hair mask - [ ] teasing comb - no detailing, volumizing hair, gently detangling - [ ] teasing brush - compressable, bristles are bendable, don't use it aggressively, great to brush out wet hair - [ ] ceramic round brushes - will act as gentle curling iron, volumizing and curling benefits, depending on size it gives you the curl (size inversely proportional to curls given), used to sleekily smoothen out hair, sometimes they have a detail at the bottom for hair sectioning - [ ] boar bristle round brush - smooth out the hair really well, take a little bit more effort, used mostly for people with very frizzy hair, lot more grip, they don't heat up, they add a lot of shine and health, distribute oils very evenly - [ ] paddle brush - if you want pin straight hair, nylon bristles on them are great for smoothing hair - [ ] mason pearson brush - very expensive but will last lifetime, been around for 100 years, mix of nylon and boar bristles, daily brushings, add shine, distribute oils evenly, flip hair upside down and brush it from roots to ends, helps in scalp circulation, stimulating scalp for hair growth - [ ] denman brush - doesn’t snag on the hair, doesn’t pull too hard, great brush for short/curly hair - [ ] round paddle brush - mix of natural and nylon bristles, helps to get flat beach wave look (with blow dryer), doesn’t heat up, helps to keep hair shiny, smooth and healthy Brushes for hair types:- - [ ] straight or slightly wavy hair - teasing/detangling brush - [ ] curly hair but want to make it straight and smooth - wide tooth comb or detangling brush - [ ] curly hair and want to keep it that way - don’t use detangling brush, use a wide tooth comb - [ ] straight/wavy hair but a lot of frizz - boar bristle round brush + forcefield - [ ] straight/wavy but want bouncy curls - ceramic round brush - [ ] straighter wavy/curly hair - paddle brush, tail comb for partings - [ ] wear hair naturally curly and don’t wanna blow it out - denman brush (best for curly hair and great for people with a bob) - [ ] everyday brush for any hair type - mason pearson brush or a mix of nylon and boar bristles brush (any)

I've been there. I was running late for swim lessons at my local YMCA, and couldn't find my own brush, so I grabbed my mom's round brush . I've always kept my hair rather long and back then was no exception. So, after the lesson I was in the locker room, fresh from showering out all that nasty chlorine and brushing my hair under a hand dryer (a lot of girls in my swim class would dry their hair under the hand dryer) and low and behold, my long thick red hair got all tangled every which way in that round brush. A mother of some other girl heard me bawling as I tried to get it out and helped to remove it. It took about 10 minutes to get it out and it left the mother of all rats nests in it's wake. This mother walked out with me after I finished getting ready and told my mother about why my hair looked like it had been through a tornado. Needless to say, I stay far FAR away from using a round brush myself and only let my stylist use one when she cuts my hair. After all, she's been trained on how to use one properly.

I didn't get the hype AT FIRST, but I kept using it, and quickly was like "OK...I need some more of these." And my daughter immediately wanted her own, too. I can't imagine not having it now. It's good at teasing, but it's also the best for sectioning, and then you can also give the section a quick smoothing before doing whatever you're gonna do to it. Regular teasing combs just don't offer what the TT does.

I have curly hair and went to the “salon” my boyfriend goes to. I have 2c waves, almost 3a curls, and I was SCARRED FOR LIFE! First, I called in advance to ask if they can do a dry cut for curly hair, they said I could, then I got there, and she took me to a sink, gave me a protein treatment (I told her no silicones because I’m CG), dried my hair with a terry cloth towel and rubbed it to heck with it. THEN COMBED FROM THE TOP WITH A DANG RAT TAIL COMB. I did a reset wash when I got home, it took my hair 2 weeks to recover, this was in January, and I’m still salty about it, tbh. Sorry, this started off with me wanting to talk about rat tooth combs, but I needed to vent.

Oh my god, that sounds horrible. I literally cringed while reading this. Knowing how much time and money and effort it takes to take Kate of 2c, 3a curls, I would die if this happened to me. I know that recent there has been a scandal over DevaCurl but I find that if you go to DevaCurl certified salons, your hair turns out great. If you are not comfortable using DevaCurl products (which I’m not btw, they did a lot of damage to my hair and it’s still recovering even tho I stopped using it 4 months ago) I’m sure you can bring your own products that you use at home and the hair stylist there might have some tips and tricks that may be useful.

A lot of hairdressers have no idea how to cut and style natural curly hair. Usually they go with a "nice" iron and straighten it (frying it in the process). If you have curly hair try like her said styling it with the Denman brush (the type 3 with 7 rows), it's really awesome. I have a 2c/3a curl and it really helps it.

Pretty sure the pin in the ceramic round brush isn't just for parting. Pretty sure that it's actually for the inevitable event when you get it so tangled in your hair you're actually considering cutting it off just to have freedom again. That way you can pick out the tangles and knots with the pin and free your hair, no cuts needed!

THE DENMAN BRUSH is great for curly hair and making the curls SPRING BACK. Brush in sections, bottom-up and give a little tension when pulling it through your hair. The slight tension will make the curls spring back when drying. Brush sections once or twice each and leave it alone. That brush acts like a ribbon does when you use a pair of scissors to get that curl like a bow. ya know what I mean?

Thank you so much for this video oh my gosh. My entire life I've only used detangling brushes or paddle brushes and I hated how it always smoothened my curls but not even in a good way, it just looked frizzy and awkward and I thought the problem was just me brushing my hair but now I've realised the brush just did what it was supposed to do lmao I hope I can get a wide toothed comb soon✨

Oh where do I start... First, I have DEFINITELY been using the wrong brushes. Second, you explained properly distributing the oils in your hair. I had a hair dresser once (Great Clips not so great...) who told me I had naturally oily roots and recommended product to help get rid of some of the oil. While my poor dry, split ends were so damaged that I had to get more cut off than I wanted. SMH. Last but not least, Brad you are amazing. I love you. You make me want to actually take care of my hair. I've always been an all natural, low maintenance kind of girl. Very little effort put in to my looks. But, you make it look so simple and actually make sense so I'm not getting lost trying to understand what you're talking about. I've fallen into so many KZbin black holes watching your videos and I regret none of it. Looks like I'm going to start living my extra life.
