The ironly. Robert Reed would storm off the set of the Brady Bunch because he thought the show was so dumb. But he liked doing these shows. Now that is funny

You can blame the Donny & Marie Show for this and the curiosity of the American viewers who wanted to see what the Brady Kids looked like a few years after the cancellation of the Brady Bunch. One of the highest rated shows of the entire Donnie & Marie Osmond series in 1976 was when a few of the Brady kids guest starred. America tuned in to see how they looked and of course the suits at ABC thought that meant America wanted to see another Brady Bunch Show. Only they got it all wrong and came up with this musical version, that only the most ardent Brady fan could defend as good.
@landreaulover7 ай бұрын
America always embraces another look at the Bradys, but they've never had a comeback vehicle as engaging as the original series -- until they rebuilt they rebuilt the house interior on HGTV. Barry and Chris have a podcast talking about the show that is also a blast. The Variety Hour, though -- a one-hour special probably would have done okay. A whole season of this was never going to make it.
@edwardcricchio61067 ай бұрын
@@landreauloverThey did have the right vehicle to catch us up on the Brady kids and what they looked like was the 1981 Brady Brides. That should have been a one off show, where we get to see Marcia getting married and ended it for good there. But of course they ruined it by having Jan marry in that show as well and having Marcia marry a goof ball like Wally? Highly improbable.

Was so happy when I heard the Bradys were coming back -- and then I watched a few minutes of the Variety Hour and never watched it again. Maybe if it had a couple of songs built around the old setup -- including the classic set (which was most likely gone), it could have lasted longer. But really, another season of the classic show -- with only a couple of musical episodes would have been my preference. Still, it's a nice bit of nostalgia as long as you don't take it too seriously.
