Orwell (Animal Farm) and Kubric (A Clockwork Orange) are big influences on Ren, and have previously appeared together in his lyrics, in "Heretic," which is a HELLUVA song in the "Ren origin story" category of his music. "Sometimes the things I do are quite radical" is the line before burning the houses of parliament down. "Your illegitimate king has lost his crown" - the song was written long before Elizabeth died, but the video came out immediately after Charles' coronation, which was a fun little bit of coincidence (I assume). Animal Flow isn't my fave Ren song, BUT my god that beat. The beat pulls me into, like, delirium, every time. I cannot WAIT to see you pick up the live acoustic version of this. Nothing can prepare you for it. Happy birthday, and enjoy your time off!

The commandments of Animal Farm on the wall, and our own Flackerzfotos (Ren's friend Joe Flack) is the captive (he also shows up in another video). Jake (another friend who also shows up in another video) is the pig in the living room, and Viktus is the pig-butcher from Hi Ren and Sick Boi. There is a homage to the painting "Dogs Playing Poker" by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. The head in the kitchen is associated with yet another video. In the bathroom there is an unintentional play on words--the Creature from the Black Lagoon is in the tub... another name for the Creature is "The Gill-Man"... Ren's last name is Gill, so The Gill Man put the Gill-Man in his video. The Gorilla is Jess Hurley. Followed by Guy Fawkes bars, and animals eating meat, and it all ends with a bookend of Willie Wonka at the end as Ren limps out of the building limping on his cane compared to the Oompa-Loompa musical reference at the start. It was all filmed in a flat belonging to yet another friend of Ren's, and if you notice the church across the street, that is the church on Ship Street, in front of which Ren has frequently performed with Sam Thompkins and The Big Push. What I can't believe about Ren is how he can write a melody (and hook). Just CONSTANTLY with these brilliant melodies. I mean, I know that Murderer is a super explicit callback to the chorus/hook of Barrington Levi's "Murderer" (ie, it's not *Ren's* melody*) but my god... I can go weeks with my brain in a nonstop loop of Murderer. And it's not even my favourite Ren song! Love how Animal Flow and Murderer got live acoustic versions released quickly-ish after the official videos dropped. Follow Up - Yes, he IS talking abou tthe 7 Deadly Sins, and the whole album (Sick Boi) kind of revolves around it. He has a track Seven Sins on it, yes Money Game is all about Greed, and he did an ARG (Like an online scvanger hunt thing - think Cicada) and it was all based of the 7 deadly sins and was used as a promotion for the release of Money Game 3. Every day there were new clues and leads and videos (youll likely stumble on one called "Eden" which was played at the VERY END of the game). First one to answer the question every day won $1k.. was a ton of fun! He is BRILLIANT!

Love your reactions! I'm always noticing the ADHD "oh, I do that too" moments. Nice to know you're not alone sometimes. I really dig the Orwellian warning of the song - be wary of the rebel leader who rises to power, especially when they tell you they're bad. It’s easy to overlook how power can corrupt those who start with good intentions. The Cannibal King starts the song off by proudly claiming who he is. He tells us he's a murderous tyrant, but we ignore it. My favorite part is when the (German) Shepherd leads the leashed lamb passively down the stairs - perhaps to slaughter - while singing about eating your flesh (yum-yum-yum-yum). It's just like the overall faith we have in our politicians (shepherds) to lead us to care and safety when they might not have our best interests at heart. More importantly is the leader above them and to heed the Orwellian warning of listening to their words and intentions - especially the leader who takes the place of an illegitimate ruler. New and different isn't always better. So, be wary when the Cannibal King wages war on the capital. Listen when he says, "Show no mercy under my rule / I won't be kind, I will be cruel / Drown all my foes in a paddling pool / Yes, I'm tyrannical bro, so." Yeah, Ren mentions bits from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in several of his songs. Great catch on the opening reminding you of the Oompa Loompa song. You're right, there are also hints of A Clockwork Orange (and you'll see references to Kubrick's work throughout Ren's discography - Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, etc.) Booky: I'm beating your brains with a bat / And I'm swinging it back / And it's booky, I bite 'cause I'm bored" Booky - when somebody is acting strange, weird, out of the ordinary, suspicious. A roadman word. Ex, "Oi bruv stop actin booky." Have you seen "Illest of Our Time" yet? I think you're going to love the last part on your 2nd or 3rd listen. ✌️ P.S. Hope your celebration was everything you hoped for.

SEVEN SINS is the name of Rens latest song. For as far as I can remember you haven't reacted to that one yet. The message in this song makes eveb more sense if you know the book Animal farm (G. Orwell) In essence it's delivering the same massage as the money game imo. I remember seeing this video for the first time and I needed to listen to the track without visuals and watch the video without sound to pick things up there is so much going on. Think you certainly got that on first listen. The beats on this track are absolute 🔥🔥…..the siren that comes in when Ren is walking backwards down the stairs…..I love so much.
