Badass review. I'm a huge fan of the Savage drive and the Savage boost. I really like an OD/Boost that has a full eq.

Clean clean clean 🤣 I now realise how much the precision drive coloured the tone. Had to really dial back the gain when using that but this is so transparent I'm loving it.

I got my savage drive v5 also. Great pedal! Thanks for promoting airis and more power to your channel!

Yeah, Airis hit it out of the park with this one. For so long I've wanted a pedal that is structured like Bass pedals w Hi-Low Mid's and Bottom Ends for amps like my Senoir Hector Labaoga, Tighten up Low end on my ENGL FB60. You have some incredible Amps. I'm good on Gear, and I've sworn off anymore Dirt and Boost/O.D. pedals........... BUT, This is a Def-Com 4 situation.An actual solution to tone problems with upper and lower MidsI ! I'm getting this to go with my other Airis Savage,Brutal, Screamer, Dirt Monger, Deadweald's, Klirrton's, PIOD Razor, Nobels, MXR il diavolo, Etc., Etc. Do like my MXR 6 Eq though in some situations and also my Empress and Boss Pq post Eq pedals , Then I even have my vintage Furman PQ-3's and a 4.

Can we get a video of this combined with the Grindstein? That would be awesome. I'm going to have to pick this up.

I would, I just do have the physical grindstein anymore unfortunately. I have to cycle out gear a lot to get stuff for the channel.

man just pulled the trigger on the savage drive v5. im used to tubescreamers (ts9 and od808) and i have tried the KSR Eros, but the Eros wasnt as useful as I had wished. I run a similar rig as you, with the evh 5150iii 50 watt white head and 7 string with black heavens in it. Looking to squeeze some more gain/saturation on the blue channel.
@MetalHeadProductions Жыл бұрын
Turn up the gain on the savage drive for that saturation you're looking for.

Bro...just ordered one right now. I been using a ZW-44 (basically a Boss Super Overdrive), then a Grind, a 33, and recently settled on a Peppers Pedals Dirty Tree (pretty much a 33 but half the price and I still love it). I'm super excited to see what this Savage Drive V5 will do. Dude love your channel

@@MetalHeadProductions it came in the mail yesterday!!! First of all...that was fucking fast as fuck!!!! WTF?! thats awesome! Savage V5 is crazy! Ya can get lost messing with stuff. I really like black metal and blackened death metal an its nice to be able to turn the Savage control up and get some really "gritty angry CHUNKY" but clear sounds. I am a Dirty Tree guy, one knob. Turn it up all the way and forget it. Easy. But I didn't know what I was missing till now. I still love the DT but realize that guitar tone can be so much more and exactly what you want. I can't wait to get a Parallel Drive.

@MetalHeadProductions2 жыл бұрын
This was done in my stealth 50, blue channel, ass around 10 o'clock, mids at about 2 o'clock and treble at 1:30. Gain not set very high at all, around noon.
@kdog39803 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I've never use one of the modern overdrives - how would you say this is different to using something like an EQ pedal for some upper mid push? I've only used TS in the past. Just got a great orange amp but want to add some upper mid presence to it for a bit more crunchiness to it. Love your channel, and even your older videos!
@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
EQ pedals and overdrives effect the EQ of your signal pretty differently. EQs effect a fairly narrow frequency band while an overdrive has a more broad EQ curve for the frequencies it's effecting. They push those all important upper mids, and more modern drives tend to be brighter and more cutting than older drives, and drives also shelve off lower end frequencies in a way that particularly good for going into an amp for high gain. Wampler has a pretty good video up with some visuals on the differences between EQs and overdrives.

@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
I say Savage v5. I don't think there is a drive tone that airis has made that the Savage v5 can't do. I'll also be comparing the v5, parallel and brutal drives pretty soon on here.

Hi bud, i just ordered the pedal thanks to your review (and a Corona). I appreciate all of your hard youtube work. By the way that drop a riff was sick
@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome, you're going to love it, and btw, didn't bring it up in the video, but of you want even more output from it, there is a switch inside that basically doubles your volume.
@XChristianNoirX3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. You can zone in on the frequencies better! My main question is if the volume output is more powerful than the V4. I found the V4 didn't have enough output (compared to the Parallel OD, which seemed to crush it) in certain situations... BTW, the Airis site also says that there is also a "more volume" control inside the V5's enclosure that gives it another 10db to 20db boost... Would have to have that cranked to see the difference. Basically, I lived the V4 in front of my Kemper, but in front of my 5150 block, I needed a bit more output if using the tight control where I wanted it, or crank the amp's gain. Cutting bass tends to cut power after all. The Parallel OD in contrast either has more output, or the fact that fidgeting with the clean blend, you can bring back some of the power. I don't remember exactly because I've been using the Airis Target Mids the most lately with my Stealth. The Stealth sounds pretty great, but the target Mids allows me to precisely set my pick attack to exactly where I want it. The rest kinda takes care of itself, but like the V4, I wish it had more output to hit that blue channel hard and gain stage the way I like it. The Catalinbread VariOboosT's main advantage, is precisely that the clean boost is way stronger, but the buffer in the Airis sounds better (it probably has a much higher input impedance than the VarioBoosT, closer to like a Fortin (The 33 has a 5M input impedance! (while an Od808 has only like 500k, which is about the same as the block letter 5150))). Nerdery aside... 😂 How much more noticeable is the output power compared to the V4 when maxed (including the internal trim set to stun)?
@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
The v5 doesn't have any issues with volume, that's for sure, and can have the output of the parallel. I'll be doing a video comparing the Savage V5, parallel V2 and brutal drives in the near future.
@XChristianNoirX3 жыл бұрын
@@MetalHeadProductions thanks for replying. I'm just interested in knowing if the total output volume is noticeably more than the V4. I assume it is, since there is that additional trim inside, but no accurate word on that. If it is significantly more powerful, I might upgrade.
@MetalHeadProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@XChristianNoirX without messing with the internal volume control, the volume output is similar to the v4, so if you add that extra 10db it can be much louder.
@WholeLottaBulldog3 жыл бұрын
Do you ever go through phases where you prefer an unboosted heavy sound? For years id never really played without a boost but just recently I've discovered how much 'space' it can give your tone; I don't feel compelled to play super fast like I do when the sound is tight and focused. Interested to know your thoughts.. Btw whats your name? I've watched you for ages but have probably missed it.

I don't ever boost my Granophyre, but it doesn't need it. Otherwise, no I really do prefer boosting into an amp, especially when recording.
