It felt like Brenda's spirit was telling me that she was telling me "I might not be around tomorrow, but I'll always be with you." She loved Brandi too. Now, Brandi Carlile's songs mean more to me than ever before.

When I first heard this song I was overwhelmed with emotion. My mom passed away suddenly due to septic shock. Seeing her the last time, I knew that even though her body was shutting down she still knew that I was there with her. She saw me and a single tear fell from her eye. As my mum was living her last hours, I was stranded in a hospital on the opposite coast from where she was. I did not know she was ready to pass. I knew she had been living with cancer for years, but I was never told just how ill she had become. We had sadly been estranged for years... At 4:00 in the morning, EST, something told me to reach out to her right at that moment. She and my dad lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, hence in 2003, cell reception was iffy. I had an urgent need to hear her voice. When my aunt put the phone to her ear, I told her it was her baby girl calling to check on her. She was barely alive at this point. I just asked what, if anything, I could offer her. She whispered to me asking to recite her favorite biblical passage: The Lord's Prayer. As we shared these last minutes of her life together, she told me how bright the light was becoming and she felt so free...... I told her to follow the light..... I told her it was ok to Let Go... Within seconds, mere seconds, she passed gently and quietly away. Even with the distance that separated our world's, almost 20 years later, her love still fills my 💜 with joy knowing that her baby girl could be with her the same way she was with me when it was my first minutes of my life.
