A ship-pet would be a huge selling point for me too, especially if it was useful in the greater game. The fire-spitter as a close range bonus turret, maybe a glow bug to illuminate dark areas, or a mushroom-dog that slowly regenerates your fuel. Pet housing could be a ship component, and the skill tree could add more pets to gain other quality of life improvements. @Splat, I *think* you're supposed to unassign crew from the guns to keep them from firing, but I agree that a toggle would be better. Also, it seems dumb that repair wouldn't already be automatic without buying it in the skill tree. After all who wouldn't bail water out of a sinking ship, or plug the hole that's sinking it in the first place?

'Sunless' is not a genre, but a format and a setting of a particular franchise. it deliberately takes a Jules-Verne-styled steampunk, and builds up its own Dickensian universe in order to set up the mood and try and deliver an aesthetic in narration that feels authentic. if another game wants to take a post-apocalyptic atompunk retrofuturism and build upon such a theme, that doesn't mean it echoes to the "Fallout" genre, whatever that means.

@@milanstevic8424 because using Bitcoin as an everyday currency is a weird choice. Crypto is crazy volatile and so it’s weird to see it being used as opposed to credits or dollars or pounds or shiny rocks in a game. 20 years from now someone might play this game and be confused as to why they use a currency that’s supposedly worth any free upgrade you want when its equivalent to half a penny per coin in real life.

@@milanstevic8424 compared to crypto government backed currency never changes in value. That’s not a politically charged statement it’s the facts whether you like them or not, for example a month ago doge coin was worth like 3 cents. This week it rose to nearly 50 cents a coin. When was the last time you saw a government backed currency do some crazy shit like that over night? You haven’t. Because they are more stable than crypto by a significant margin. Sure it changes value over time inflation happens so do scandals and what not, but relative to crypto that change in value is peanuts and calling it volatile screams of ignorance. It takes a serious event, like country ending levels, to possibly cause the level of volatility that crypto experiences weekly. Thinking of crypto as a currency is just plain wrong. You should think of them more like a stock, if you do your research you can definitely profit but following the crowd and pumping all your money into crypto is an idiotic move. Someone’s gotta hold the bag of dog shit and there’s a chance it will be you. Also I never said it was wrong or objectionable, I said it was odd.

Yeah... I just picked it up (as well as Sunless Skies) recently for Switch. It's really awesome and it's a fairly unique experience, but it's honestly more like a book than it is a game.. and that throws me off sometimes in that it kinda requires a different mood (a reading mood) than gaming normally does. Oh, and patience. Lots of patience. And a dictionary.. good lord! I [would like to think I] have a pretty large vocabulary, but that game frequently throws words at me I've never even seen before! edit: anyway, if you approach it as a choose-your-own-adventure book instead of a game, I think you'd like it more, maybe I'd recommend it for the world building alone, honestly. Game definitely has it's flaws, but the world building and lore type stuff are on a level of their own (imo)!

Hey I really like your videos and you showing off all kinds of titles to get them the support they deserve. I see that playing various games in their development stage gives you a certain amount of integral game design knowledge. However, often your advice sounds more of "things should be this way" - while most of the examples you give are often mechanics that make games dull, uninspired and uncreative (solutions to be found in almost every similar game). Finding proper solutions to individual issues in your game often is verged between "I have to find a solution" and "I wanna do it right" - I imagine the game devs have played games where roles are controlled with switches, autorepair on gunship games is also a very "solved" issue - them not having put in such one-dimensional solutions is most likely because they chose to take time and develope their game properly. That being said, obviously you are not intending to have games dumbed down, however on the array of games you reviewed you have had an serious impact due to the exposure you give those games. And by the end of my thought it stands clear to me that indie-games are there to not just use simple straight forward solutions to render their game a copy of all others in their nieche with nothing but a different skin/engine to run on. Encouragement to fix things is relevant, encouragement to just finish things up is, I believe; not the right call in this art scene that indie-games are.
@GameTimeWhy2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying but there are thousands upon thousands of games that will never be seen by more than a handful of people. Splat is often giving massive boosts to these games. A game shouldn't be "unique" just for the sake of it. Sometimes devs add cool new mechanics that haven't been done but most of the time it's reusing something "common" which isn't a bad thing if they incorporate it well.
