I was growing up in germany watching proper No.9s like Marcio Amoroso and Giovanne Elber winning golden boots and leagues in Bundesliga, but couldn‘t get anywhere near the Brazil squad. My problem with these takes is that they don't really adress the tactical aspect of the game and really haven't given respect to the strength of the opposing team. From what I've gauged is, the center backs hold the ball way too long for any move to develop, also starting Guimaraes and Gerson basically makes the players recycle the ball backwards with no penetration. When Andre came on there was a huge difference in midfield penetration, which led to more final third chances

There is always massive exaggerations (both good and bad) when people talk about the Brazil national team. These guys have incredibly selective memory. A lot of the “great” Brazil teams were called “the worst Brazil ever.” The reality is the World Cup 1.5years away. That’s a long time in Futbol (soccer). And the WC is only 5 weeks. To win your best players have to be healthy and have a quick run of form for those 5 weeks/8 games. Here is the reality: - 1994 Brazil team had 1 maybe 2 stars on the team. A terrible qualifiers campaign. Brazil didn’t qualify until the last qualifier game. Result = Brazil won the World Cup. - 1998 Much stronger team. Breezed through qualifiers. Result = lost in the Final. - 2002 was a complete mess. Infighting within the team. Multiple injuries. Ronaldo just came back from knee surgery, he actually didn’t play all qualifiers. Rivaldo was playing terrible. Ronaldinho was not a star, he was a young talent in PSG (Before Milan and Barça). Brazil again didn’t qualify until the very end of qualifier. Result: Brazil wins WC -2006. Star-studded team, Ronaldo, Adriano, Ronaldinho, Kaka (Magic Quadra) were all flying. Not to mention the other stars. Joga bonito commercials. Qualifiers was super chill. Result = Eliminated in the Quarterfinals. - 2022. Neymar was flying for PSG. Brazil had the best qualifiers in the history of the federation. Broke record for most points. In 17 games scored 40 goals and only let in 5 goals. Result= Eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Again…. You need to have your “ish” together and peek DURING the WC. You don’t get trophies for great games or campaigns in qualifiers…. You just have to qualify.
