I did indeed, and as one fan of the FCM 36 to another, I'm wondering if you ever plan to do a video on the weird and wonderful/downright insane interwar proposals for French armored fighting vehicles that probably thankfully never got any further than the scale model or mock up stage.

We just have to look at it as it was meant to be: a learning tool, as this would have been virtually useless in combat. You can't start off by building an Abrams tank without any experience- what Brazil failed to do at the time was to take the lessons learned and create something better, and then something even better after that...

@@naamadossantossilva4736 Engesa bit more than it could chew. The Osório was not feasible, unfortunately. The Tamoyo was a lot better. But we brazillians always need to reivent the wheel, to make a better product in every way so we can prove we're just as good.. even if the project isn't really reliable or cost effective. Unless we change our minds about these things, we will never get there. At least Embraer has the right mindset. Built a plane that was actually needed and feasible, that could be sold internationally because the competition is not as strong or has too many issues - and they did so two times, with the C-390 and the EMB-314(A-29). Engesa failed because it tried to compete directly with proven tank manufacturers that posessed advanced native systems(and the capability of producing them locally) along with great logistical support.

Call me crazy, but I have always been a fan of light "tankette" designs. The recent Bradley vs Russian tank duel was a good demonstration that "the vehicle you have" is often more useful than putting all your eggs in a few superheavy baskets. Those light vehicles are also way easier to actually retool an auto industry to manufacture.

I remember, in one game I like super small drone tankettes with absurdly thick armor. Like if you sacrifice speed and mobility and left only volume-effective weapon, you still can have thick armor and be reasonably lightweight.
@huslethal
@huslethal 11 ай бұрын
??? Did you not see the entire video??? The Bradley knocked out the optics of the Russian tank and continued to pummel the view slots of the commander effectively making the tank blind. The commander could not see where the Bradley was because of all the sparks and smoke and the Bradley was still moving around. A drone operator saw the duel and dropped an explosive above the Russian tank, effectively knocking it out. To me, that video is more of showing the Ukrainian crew's tactical smarts, knowing it was outmatched in armour and firepower, they decide to make it blind and use their maneuverability advantage to not give the Russian tank a chance.
@guaposneeze
@guaposneeze 11 ай бұрын
@@huslethal Yeah, sounds like we are talking about the same video. "Distributed lethality" worked well for Ukraine in that case. I've seen some argue that the small gun mission-killing the tank instead of hard killing it with penetration was somehow cheating, and it isn't. If you can have cheap 30mm guns somewhere a tank will attack, combined with better sensors, mobility, fire control, and tactics, mission killing the tank and letting a drone to cleanup is a perfectly practical antitank doctrine. It's a lot more practical than trying to have heavy MBT's everywhere that an enemy tank might attack because those are expensive so you'll have more gaps in your lines, and you'll be offering fewer and juicier targets to the enemy drones.

Really very good, I'm Brazilian and I see the Brazilian tank projects like the Osório and the Tamoyo, it's a shame that they didn't do well in the domestic and foreign market. Brazil also made several improvised tanks at the time of the 1932 revolution, both in armored car designs and in tanks and even in armored trains, they are improvised but are very interesting to see how original they were in their simplicity.

A little detail of interest is that in the photo showing an M41 Walker Bulldog and two jeeps, one of the jeeps is armed with a Danish Madsen light machine gun, a weapon of pre-WW1 origins. IIRC there are still a few short barreled Madsens still in use in some Brazillian police departments, a testament to the design's durability and reliability.

With big wide tracks, this would be great for South America. A sort of tracked Jeep. Bonus, if you could build an amphibious version. I love little multipurpose vehicles, they tend to wind up with fascinating, varied models. The closest thing I can think of is the Argo family of multiwheeled utility vehicles, which are fairly common in the central US. They take a small group of people basically anywhere. Sad this little thing never took off, but I'm glad you covered it!

As a first attempt which basically started off as as a Military Engineering College's after hours class project, onto becoming a technical industrial starting point.. ...albeit with Brazil's prior years of some minor military parts & growing systems productions to work from, as well as operating foreign armour , ...it is mot bad at al compared to many nations own individual 1st attempts. While far from service capable, it wasn't so far from being potentially developable into something akin to alike the JSDF'sType 73cAPC, but in a smaller package. As it was, it was trimmed down alot like a well shaven bush, and needed development time to grow thicker and stronger before being shaved where approximately bedded.
