I tried to make this years ago, think it was the old ration book way, was a complete disaster. My beautiful mum in law recently passed away. My husband misses her and her bread pudding so much. I searched high and low for a good old fashioned British Bread Pudding recipe. this was so easy to follow and was actually taking it out of the oven just as my husband walked through the front door. He said the smell brought a tear to his eye. It really did taste just like his mum's bread pudding, A week later & a 2nd one in the oven now. Thank you so much Dave xx

@@davestinykitchen3673Being a former Londoner who has lived on the U.S for over 23 yrs, I will say u are doing a good job delivering to ur audience..Now Bread& Butter Pudding is very popular, but I think I think the traditional Brit style Bread Pudding will appeal..When I make this I tf6 foe somewhere in between& recently started using Condensed or Carnation Milk, with a little fruit! But it's good to play around with this mixture!👍

Hi Dave, I am a merchant seafarer working worldwide with many different Nationalities and I am British. I think its very good of you to realise that audiences here are international and therefore you try to help people understand by using words or ways of speaking in which someone who speaks a different version of English will understand. So in a way there really should be no need to apologise to anyone for trying to be a good citizen of this planet. Thanks for this fab video I am going to make your pudding now!

My grandad used to make his by using stale 🍞 bread and soaked it overnight in water then squeeze all the water out in a cullender then mixed up brown sugar and mixed spices and currents and sultana's nutmeg and cinnamon then cooked it in oven then let it go cold then put it in the fridge overnight .it was amazing .and it was a war time recipe were they had to make do .didn't have much ingredients but did have lots of kids to feed .in fact I'm gonna make one right now. Thanks Dave

Thats the way my old Mum made it ,Loved the nutmeg in it, Mum also put a bit of Sugared ginger in as well She made enough to fill an enamel roasting dish 3 inches thick Dad used to take half to Night shift for his mates who in return brought in Eggs fruit and vegies from their allotments All helped each other in the early 50,s

Lovely to see a Proper bread pudding recipe! They make theirs light across the pond more like our bread and butter pudding. A lot of celebrity chefs use cream and things but what our Mums made were the best. Lots of different recipes from around the UK, some with stout rather than milk or just water, or half and half. My Mum used suet rather than butter or marg. and no eggs were put in but my word, it was good stuff, delicious smell filled the kitchen when it was cooking. Whatever the recipe, they were all good old-fashioned tummy fillers for the not so affluent. Personally I think the better off missed out. Thanks for the nostalgia. X

Ex pat here from London living in Florida, who was raised on bread pudding I've made it several times. Found it's a little easier with a food processor, almost brings the stale bread back to flour. I also use treacle instead of the dark sugar, I make several pans at once and freeze ..I'm good for at least six months... Cheers

Dave: If your following is mainly American, you need to be aware that British style "mixed spice" is unknown in North America and all but impossible to find. It is very distinctive; any substitute would result in a very different flavour. I have been making your recipe for decades and it is a good one. I use a lot more spice and also one egg in the mix to bind it a little better. Finally, IMHO, this is one pudding that is even better when eaten cold. Great video.
