In the early to mid 80's I was a team over the road semi truck driver for 3 years. Somehow we survived together in that very small living environment. We could not afford motels because of our extremely low pay. Sleeper semi trucks didn't have the room that sleeper trucks have today either, much less all the amenities like refrigerators, microwave ovens, and many other little things that make it livable today. The point I'm making is most people don't "need" a lot of room to be happy. Your bread truck is on another level when it comes to living space and amenties and I'm quite certain it's enough room for me to be happy. Will retire with my social security check and savings, in about a year or two. Your step van so far is the best vehicle I've seen to live in. Nice job and happy trails to you. Enjoy watching your videos.

I effing love it Paul. Lots of room so not to feel closed in. Like that you didn't put up walls. Really well opened... I've been looking for one. In 1975 you could buy one for $400.00 not today! Happy Trails

Hands down, THE BEST low budget set-up. You can get fancier, but this one has it all. I mean, solar, composting toilet, shower, bar (didn't you see it around the bath tub?), east-west fixed bed, panoramic windows, huge wardrobe, locking storage compartments, dinette with small and large removable tables, big sink, double propane stove, running water, on demand heater, double max fans, insulation, extra sleeping space, fancy lighting and I think I saw (although he didn't mention it) a refrigerator... come on, it does have it all. Way to go @breadtrucker.

My brother in law built a RV out of a bread truck back in the 70s and he and his family would take vacations and weekend trips in! They named it “Old Ironsides” ! They had a lot of happy adventures in that old RV! A lot of happy memories !

Glad I'm not the only one! lol My office is about 2 blocks (1.5 actually) away from Acme Bread Company and I have stalked their bread trucks around their bakery facility more than a few times, trying to find the model that would be the best option. I've also priced those trucks new and they are NOT cheap. Interesting video. Thanks for posting it and thank you to the van-lifer for sharing his private space and build.

Really nice build. Seems that most folks build out their vans/trucks with no regard to the reason most people convert vans: to save money and be environmentally responsible. Great job reusing, repurposing, and saving perfectly good material from ending up in landfills--and saving a ton of money on your build. You're an inspiration!

I did one of these 30 years ago! Part of my inspiration was Electric Horseman. I left 4 feet clear up the center for the horse. Solid cabinets on both sides, 3/4 hardwood ply counters, uppers set back a foot with 2' clearance. Peeled half round log siding bumpers and doorframe behind drivers compartment. Curtains on the front windows. Metal bedframe pulled down from the ceiling to windowsill level. Second bed simply plywood across counter to counter. It was designed more as a structure and workshop but came out like a log cabin.

at some point you could make a hinged cover for the back windows that would lift to then give shade when parked for evening views in hot weather. I picture a humming bird feeder hanging under the edge of the cover /awning. This might be helpful when rainy weather hits too. Everything in place for a comfy nest on the road! Get a great bread truck picture painted on the cover so that it simply looks like a sign!

I like that he repurposed so much, been watching van build videos and when they reveal the costs its shocking, you don't need to spend 20k on interiors, there are so many nice things out there to repurpose, I just got a solid wood IKEA pantry shelf with rolling drawers for 20 dollars, its in new condition, Paul has the right mind frame for tiny living.
