I had thinning but changed my diet (less processed food and sugar) and upped my water a ton. That alone made a tremendous difference. Also I learned the crown is always exposed to elements like sun so it gets dry and brittle easily. So I give it more TLC with moisture. But don’t underestimate the role your diet plays on your hair and hormones. Stress also weakens your immune system and can also directly affect thinning in the crown area. It's all connected. If you are eating poorly, not sleeping and stressed, all the vitamins and moisturizing in the world won't help much.

I agree with this 💯%! I think genetics, topical ingredients, and external manipulation play a big role. However, I see several people put their fingers in their ears and close their eyes when people mention stress, sleep and especially diet. Diet seems to be a sensitive subject for certain people. So much so, instead their changing their diet to optimize growth, they rather blame genetics for not seeing results. Smh.🤦 They'll say things like " well this person doesn't do x,y,z and their hair still grows". Not taking into consideration that person's curls, texture, location/weather, what they might be eating or drinking behind the scenes and if they very knowledgeable on which products work for their hair. Some can use cheap vo5 and their hair will grow like a weed, while others will try to use the same stuff and it'll stunt their growth. I'll use myself for example. I can't use oils like olive, avocado, macadamia and almond oil. I have acne prone skin and oils with high oleic acid content are bad for my face, skin and scalp. I have to use oils like castor, grapeseed and safflower seed. It took a while before discovering this, but once I did, I no longer saw extreme dandruff and build up.

I dislike when ppl have told me it’s probably stress. And I’m like, I’m not stressed. I sleep at night. I’m at peace. Do I experience unpleasant feelings and thoughts sometimes? Yes! But, not stressed! & I believe God told reassured me it’s not stress. I do believe it’s low iron, hormones. I first noticed these patterns when I was 14/15 years old. My mother said it’s been like this since I was a child. But, I don’t recall this until my mid-teens. I feel that I have to simply find out what works for my hair and what regimen to use. I pray everyone finds the solution! I use to cut my hair a lot to blend, but I’m done doing that. I embrace and try my best to work with my hair. Still trying.

If you are having breakage at the crown it is VERY IMPORTANT to see a dermatologist IMMEDIATLEY to rule out CCCA, a form of inflammation/scarring alopecia. This can be a presenting symptom. It can be treated ONLY if caught very early and otherwise can lead to bald spots.

I have breakage as well. I had a chemical treatment left too long and made my hair fell out but mostly in the crown area. That was 10 years ago and still struggle to get my hair normal again. I have 4a-4c in various parts but mostly 4c in the crown. I did the porosity test and found out im low everywhere BUT the crown. Its high porosity. So now that i finally solve the mystery i can change my hair routine for my crown.

bro idk what what’s wrong with my hair back in sep 2015 when i was like 11 i got a Brazilian blowout this lady lied and said it would my hair more manageable. I had 4a hair and it made my hair 3b-c. then i felt little spikes on my scalp- turns out it was new growth... hair was growing and a lot of hair was falling out. in April 2016, i had some strands if long hair and very short afro. weird. so my mom cut it down to the afro and i started new with 2 inches. my mom is east African so she has 2c-3a hair could not manage my 4a hair at all so i never did. I’m in 6 th grade watching these “grow hair over night” videos. than i start seeing girls with my hair. fast forward i’m 15 now and my hair is barley at my shoulders. my scalp tends to be very itchy. I have so much breakage on the middle of my hair crown. basically all on my scalp. when i went to the salon they ask what’s wrong with my hair everytime, this one lady told me i look like i have relaxer damage. my hair is mad uneven. i barley get my hair done, got box braids like once. i wear in a low pony tail very tight. no bonnet. i don’t want to have to cut all off again. i don’t know what to do? rice water, aloe ??? idk what to do and i literally cry about it all the time.

I an sorry about that, if you’re still struggling i would suggest looking into manes by mel a curly hair you tuber that is a professional curly hair specialist, she will perfectly teach you how to take care of your hair starting at the scalp. I would recommend looking into her video that teaches you how to trim your own hair, that will help you get rid of of some damage, and you could probably do this every month until healthy growth comes out. Do these trims yourself all the while caring for your scalp (examples include scalp oil messages, apple cider vinegar rinses, ect). Also ditch the pony tail, those usually cause a ton of breakage like the type you’re describing, opt for protective hair styles that conceal the hair so you don’t pick at it. When the healthy hair grows out learn how to take care of your natural curls using her videos as well. Best of luck sister ❤️
