I'm thinking a lot of these designers have "templates" in place for themselves, so the hardest work is creating the actual logo, but then they can use the same layout/design/website/mockups for their presentations, and simply insert their newly created logo or banner. Requestors aren't going to be seeing other requestors' presentations, so it would be efficient to just copy-paste a lot and modify certain pieces to cater to who you're presenting to at any given time.

I've spent almost 50 years as a professional designer, and respectfully, I have some insights on your comment. 1. The select group of designers probably spent a week of ours on this project for ANY low amount, just to get the exposure to a half a million eyeballs. 2. If someone's doing a logo for you and they normally charge $1000, that probably means they've established a reputation for providing outstanding RESULTS of the logo design. If not they won't be in business for long. A great logo that's well researched and on target can elevate a brand into the next level- of earnings. 3. Speaking of research, only one of the four designers actually, (vaguely) got what a steel trap refers to, which should have been the ESSENCE of the logo design.

take the amount of companies that need a new logo then divide that with the amount of designers (Or "designiers" - note anone can say they are one, and with modern programs to the layman even make a product that looks like one). I bet there a 50thousand designers for every new logo needed. Especially after lockdown when everyone has been sat at home for a year. And new gen kids all know hoe computers work and all can smash out a logo or website in 15 minutes. My nephew can make a better website and logo now in an hour than I would have done in the early 2000s and charge 10k for,.
@nathaneddy5023 жыл бұрын
@@MadEmuMedia that isn't true though because design isn't a demand based market it is future based. Every company will need a new brand in the future every new start up needs a brand. I mean they only made a logo. Design in general is a business where you hire a designer that designs either multiple things for a larger project or you hire him permanent because you will continuesly need design. Its not a business where you make logos all day
@mohammedmclovin44503 жыл бұрын
@@MadEmuMedia yep, as nathan said, your argument doesnt hold much water. a logo is the face of a company. how to put a price on that? you resorted to demand and offer to do that, which is basically the worst way to go about it. if you expect your company to be taken seriously, you dont want anyone's nephew designing your logo. and you definitely dont want your logo or website done in 15 minutes. you want quality, and quality is expensive.
@mohammedmclovin44503 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealColonel it should be like that, yeah. but are you a designer? nowadays, companies mainly work with designers in a freelance basis. the vast majority of them dont continuously need design. whenever they do need, they just go to those online freelance platforms and offer 50$ for something they should be paying 500$. and the saddest part is that they get it their way! graphic design has been trivialized in such a way that, even good designers now have to list their services in such platforms, coz very few companies are willing to hire them fulltime. so, yeah, the sad truth is that many do spend their time making 50$ logos all day.

I adore that semi-rounded font that Scandinative used, I just spent the past 10 mins digging for it to use in my own project! I have a question, as someone who works with fonts, do you know of the best way to purchase licenses so that their authors are given the highest percentage of the profits? I assume that the sites I found the font on all charge a commission, since the prices vary on each. I haven't had much luck finding the original author and want to ask them if they have a preferred purchasing method. I know that usually there's a readme bundled in a zip with fonts to give credits, but I would only receive it after making a purchase, so it's a chicken-and-egg issue. I've only dabbled in typography so I'm not terribly in-the-know yet (which is why I've been watching your work for some time here, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge, by the way!)

I know the vibe you were going for, but I think its weird on itself for a company called STEEL TRAP (harsh, alluding to trapping, bear traps, etc) to be millenial and friendly! I think the name lends itself to the more industrial-esque logos you were given. of course, the brief is still the brief, but if anyone was considering making a "drive clone" company and decided to name it STEEL TRAP of all names, i would personally advice them to change the name. Heck, it reminds me of SpringTrap of all things lol Regardless, I enjoyed seeing the challenge and how people came up with the designs!

I hate myself for this but I think I was the fifth designer. I dont check behance too often and I saw your message today, please forgive me :( If you are still interested in me working for the next project please let me know, I really like how you give your opinion and how you explain your feelings and critique what you see. I'd love to have another chance in the near future if you are still interested. My name in behance is Hugo Cid.

Eventhough the design looks simple..you dont know how much time & effort it take to make it perfect.. cuz my manager probably would say u can easily draw an infinity to make it

its always like this sadly :D actually most peoples under rate 99% of jobs out there until you've tried something you should not be able to talk about how easy it is imo :D

No one going to talk about how cool your voice is? You should be a voice over artist

Typically these sort of videos are used to gauge what sort of skill divide their is in the actual market over the cost. But when you just use twitter to ask your subscribers "who wants to be featured in one of my videos" it completely undermines the entire concept.

Too bad the name 'Steel Trap' is terrible after reading what the company does, makes it harder for these freelancers to really exhibit their best examples as the phrase steel trap brings about negative connotations unless the company literally sells animal traps made out of steel.

I also want to add that the company's color palette of choice is also tying it back to the "industrial" aesthetic... Caterpillar Inc is a world renowned manufacturer of construction equipment, and what is their color palette? *yellow and black* It makes sense, then, that the designers are having difficulty getting a poorly named company with a poorly chosen palette to fit into a youthful, educational, and "millennial" aesthetic

this is crazy... the people are working basically for free. they did so much work for so little cash. this is disturbing. how can they feed their families?

No way to sell this kind of work for $150. That should cost at leaset $500 Is logo market so undervalued now?

I liked the idea behind the first one, but I have no idea why people insist on flipping the 's'. Letters should identifiable. Without the name, not many would know what the initials were, let alone what they represent.
