Two things I feel should be mentioned: 1) As much as I love SNK this is not actually an SNK game (unless they acquired the license) , it did release on NeoGeo but many non SNK titles released on the system. 2) As a Condor main, I feel both he and Rila deserve to be mentioned not just Sho, Saizo, and Tia.

It's interesting that you often see people assume any game released for the Neo Geo was made by SNK, even if they were made by ADK, Data East, or whoever else. It'd be like assuming a game on the SNES was made by Nintendo.

Not to nictpick but he's correct the reason it says 1996-1998 is probably because the original game breakers was on 1996 then breaker's revenge which adds saizo was 1998

Same with Rage of the Dragons, Waku Waku 7, Galaxy Fighter, Gowgaizer, Double Dragons and Matrimelee ( Power Instinct 4), all of these titles are non SNK games.

The Neo Geo had some of the most fun hidden gems in the mid-to-late-90s - Breakers Revenge, Waku Waku 7, Fighters History Dynamite, Kizuna Encounter and Double Dragon are some of the most fun jank fighters that I have ever played, and they've only recently (in the last couple years) been getting any exposure. Also Pielle's noises are only topped by FHD's delightfully dumb voice clips.

Breakers 1 has an interesting quirk: when playing a mirror match, player 2 will be given a different name, implying that there are characters in the Breakers universe who are essentially clones of the main roster. However, this apparently isn't a thing in Breakers Revenge. Hm. Edit: The fighters do have alternate names in Breakers Revenge, but Sho's alternate name seems to be bugged.

Breakers Revenge is one of those games that I always reference is one of my all time sleeper favorites, and nobody ever knows what I'm talking about haha. I always thought it struck a nice balance between feeling like an SNK game and a Street Fighter game, and being the big Street Fighter nut I am I always loved how similar it was to that. In some ways it just flat out rips Street Fighter and a multitude of other games off, but they do well to only rip off good games, and in the end it comes together into a fantastic fighting game haha. If you're familiar with 2D fighting games in general, you can quickly pick up BR and know what you're doing, and even immediately know how to play certain characters just because they stick to well-known character archetypes so strictly. It's ridiculous fun where you can look like a badass regardless of whether or not you actually are one at fighting games, and I played the hell out of it years back. Definitely feeling like revisiting it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this wasn't made by SNK developers. This was developed by Visco. Not every game released on the Neo Geo was developed by SNK, after all. I agree with everything else though, this game is smooth. Gotta wonder what happened to Visco's devs. I'm sure they didn't stick around when Visco decided to just make slot machines for southeast asian casinos.

I'm late to the table here , but yeah, breakers revenge is a great game. It doesnt really do anything unique or different compared to other fighters and the characters are generic as it gets, but gameplaywise its fantastic . The game just plays really smoothly and just feels good and intuitive. Glad to see it get some love .

@@salj.5459 Alpha 3 feels like a stunted KoF. I prefer KoF over SF and the only SF games I like are ST, the movie, and alpha 3. Something about the designs and overly simple fighting game mechanics with low damage and a fireball poke style puts me to sleep. Not every game has to be like DBFZ, HnK, MvC and PRBG but I tend to prefer games like MK9 and MKX in terms of explosiveness and speed as the baseline. Any slower than that and I dont have fun. The exception for games like Bushido Blade where 1-3 or so hits KO is cool by me.

Looking at her moveset, I see: - Charlie's Sonic Boom with Chun-Li's Kikoken reach - Chun-Li's faster Senenshu that looks like Terry Bogard's Crack Shoot - Ryu's Shoryuken but weaker - Chun-Li's Hyakuretsuken with a slight movement forward - Bison's (o Vega's) Psycho Crusher - Ken's Shinryuken but a bit more forward and finishing with Sakura's Sakura Otoshi - An overhead axe kick + her version of Hyakuretsuken + an air grab that ends similar to Juni's Earth Direct Unless you are refering to his brown hairstyle, I don't see any other similarities with Mai Shiranui ^^U

I can't do combos in any games outside of basic combos in Soul Calibur... combos are easy in Breakers for me. The entire game in fluid I wish it saw like an old console release like the SNES, PS1, or Saturn. I bet it would work pretty well on those systems. The first game got a "waaaay too late" Dreamcast port, though.

Great video for introducing a great game... ...but there still aren't many players. Such a shame. You can become decent with one character by playing the CPU for 30 minutes. The inputs are so fluent, it makes ST feel like SF1.

It means when an opponent blocks an attack, you will be able to move before they exit block stun. It is "plus" because the difference in time between when you are able to move again after your attack is blocked and when your opponent can (measured in frames per second) is a positive value (hence the term "frame advantage").

@@TerryBollea1 Because if you can move before them, you can continue pressuring them. They can't react because you're always at an advantage. Maybe you can use the advantage to walk up and throw once they're out of block stun or you can try to catch them with a poke because they try to resist and you are already at an advantage. There are moves that are neutral or negative on block too. Maybe those attacks have great range or are difficult to get around, which is why you'd use them over something that's plus on block.

As long as you block the first hit, you just keep holding block and nothing hits you. Regardless if its "plus" or "negative". Also why wouldn't you just use a "plus" move, and keep your opponent blocking till he hits the wall, and then throw him? Ive never seen this move done in arcades, on tv, or on the internet. Yet, I constantly hear people bitching about moves not being "plus on block". If its so important, why does no one use it? Why didnt we hear about it back when we were 15 and constantly sharing info with each other, and buying full magazines dedicated to playing certain carecters with fram by frame pictures? @@TerryBollea1 Because balance isn't about just making everyone as strong as possible, you need to incorporate weakness. Weakness breeds the need to play around those weaknesses to emphasize that which the character is strong at. If a character has a lot of moves that are negative on block but their reach is incredible, you have a balanced character. Keep the opponent at maximum range where they can't punish your moves and struggle when that gap is closed because your attacks now leave you at enough of a disadvantage where a wrong decision can be costly.

I was playing Breakers Revenge yesterday on the collection, and I'm absolutely baffled the game isn't a bigger thing? Like, how on earth have Sho, Ryu, and Ken not been in a crossover game together yet, but Ryu and Ryo have? And like in some ways Breakers feels not too far from GBFV:R?? You just turn it on, pick a character, press some buttons, the move list is *right there* you're good to go. Even if we never get a new Breakers, it'd be cool if Sho and Tia could show up as guests in some other game.
