In this scene of Breakfast at Tiffany's, Paul takes Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) out to dinner since the one Holly was making exploded everywhere in the kitchen. They walk around New York and talk about her plans with Jose and who her ideal lover would be. At this point Paul is getting really upset and doesn't tell Holly. He keeps the storm raging inside him, Holly senses this.

I'm glad someone else caught that. George Peppard did an amazing job, his acting was very nuanced and subtle. Keeping up with Audrey was a feat in itself; plus Paul was something of a doormat, always doing favours for people and going along with whatever Holly wants, yet he is still interesting and likeable; and for all the big deal that was made about Holly's occupation, Paul was basically a kept man, getting paid by an older woman for sex. For all that it's an understated role it must have been quite challenging, and Peppard is so good in it.

"the friend zone" is a thing you dumbass and it's not something that only women are called out for, men also put women in the friend zone. amazing how she says " women don't see men as binary options like fuckable or friend." when that is just false, and women have told me personally i have put them in the friend zone. but yes no one owes you or i or anybody anything

@@mariahcarey9470 not to make a big deal out of this ... but the transcript is based on what the transcriber heard, and also based on the beautiful Ms. Hepburn's Anglo accent. She did say Nehru, which sounds like "Nero". I went back to Truman Capote's original novella and found the passage, which reads as follows: ... "Actually, except for Doc, if you want to count Doc, José is my first non-rat romance. Oh, he's not my idea of the absolute finito. He tells little lies and he worries what people think and he takes about fifty baths a day: men ought to smell somewhat. He's too prim, too cautious to be my guy ideal; he always turns his back to get undressed and he makes too much noise when he eats and I don't like to see him run because there's something funny-looking about him when he runs. If I were free to choose from everybody alive, just snap my fingers and say come here you, I wouldn't pick José. Nehru, he's nearer the mark. Wendell Wilkie. I'd settle for Garbo any day. Why not? A person ought to be able to marry men or women or -- listen, if you came to me and said you wanted to hitch up with Man o' War, I'd respect your feeling. No, I'm serious."... And here is the full .pdf of the Truman Capote novella: www.pf.jcu.cz/stru/katedry/aj/doc/sukdolova/Truman_Capote_-_Breakfast_At_Tiffanys.pdf.

The novella was written by Truman Capote, it's just so iconic I love it. He was openly gay can you not tell - with all the high fashion and glamour - the Holly character is reminiscent imo of the flamboyant Sally Bowles in Cabaret, ( the real character an incredibly intelligent Marxist, not the bimbo portrayed) I imagine Holly was partly based on an outrageously camp boyfriend of his or perhaps himself. Poor Paul all he had to say is you don't sweat much for a FAT lass and she be all over him like a rash. Or have bags of money. he he...

Jose Yberra-Jaegar The fiancee of Mag Wildwood and, later, Holly Golightly. Jose is an important Brazilian politician who aspires to the presidency of his country. He is cultured, well-dressed, and attractive. Holly admits that Jose is not her ideal lover, but is happy to be having her first "non-rat romance". He appears to love Holly, but remains protective of his high social and political status. When Jose impregnates Holly, he makes arrangements to marry her in Brazil, but rejects her when he discovers she has been arrested. Highly concerned about his public image, he sends his cousin to retrieve his possessions from Holly's apartment and notifies Holly of his departure via a short, albeit heartfelt, letter

Most of her movies is about falling in love with someone. Since the one, Sabrina, her acting is outstandingly amazing, it made her other work looks identical, not creative and dry ! She is elegant, classy, but don’t think she is attractive, feels she is missing something in her , don’t know what is it~ Most of the movie characters she has played, seemed like are all beautiful ladies, playing cute, smoking, kissing, dating, etc, but no works, no social responsibilities, which made beautiful women look like worthless, or less valuable ~ What’s the value ? Am I far off? What do you think ?

I wouldn't say this movie is about falling in love. It's about her avoiding to face real life and her own misery and then finally embracing her journey, her scars, her vulnerability and opening up to life. The only way to consider her character or the story worthless is not to look beyond the glamorous façade. It's a rather deep story, not everyone gets it.

she's such a self styled tragedy, such a ''manic pixie'' with deeper scars and frivolous lines. She's crazy she keeps her shoes in the fridge,, yep she's nuts alright and she'll stalk you, and fall apart when it rains, and she'll keep that off beat humor until she's even further into addiction and codependence. He never learns, and she's happy to let him fall on his face. Men of that generation must have found it compelling to meet someone so broken and used. If she weren't underweight and beautiful she'd be on the street selling it instead of in apartments and at parties still selling it.
