Hey all, one minor correction from the vid. Dr. Wilson apologizes for misspeaking at 2:13 - Adventists believe the millennium will take place in heaven, not on earth. I should have caught that for him. He got it right in his book, which I heartily recommend: iupress.org/9780253014474/dr-john-harvey-kellogg-and-the-religion-of-biologic-living/

And because they're owned by the church they don't have to pay taxes lol

Though on the other hand I suspect Sanitarium donates a substantial amount of money, probably to ADRA, because of close church relation, but still charity (yes, ADRA is the Adventist relief arm). Do you remember the "Nine out of ten nutritionists recommend kids eat Weet-Bix" commercial of the 90s? I remember an update video that had several of the Sanitarium staff doing a parody of it. The real joke (which honestly my 20-yr-old butt needed to have explained) was the guy who did the "What is a budget?" bit was the company's head of finance. That video was put on one Saturday at church in the general news part of the main service.

As a Seventh-day Adventist it's weird hearing past tense or a lot of description of some things that are normal for me because it's unusual for most other modern Christians when referring to us as a group (and no, we're not into eugenics if anyone's curious, and while some of the views Kellogg held are based on our principles, his views are not representative of us in general, especially nowadays), also while we do believe Adam and Eve were vegetarian, that's just a minor reason for why they lived so long, it's more to do with literally being "built different" from us nowadays because of the effects of sin

Fatty meat is not rough on the digestion, that's why there are so many people fixing their chronic diseases with an elimination diet of only fatty meat, water and salt. If you never eat fat, your gallbladder never releases its contents and can cause problems, but if you eat fat regularly you won't have problems.

There's a great series on the beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventists by the podcast Oh No Ross and Carrie, and by the same podcast network, the medical history show Sawbones has an episode on Kellogg. Knew a bunch of this stuff due to those, but I never knew the Kellogg/7th Day connection, so thanks Adam!! Great info.

Circumcision has had many supposed benefits that have very conveniently changed throughout history as people grow more aware of what the practice actually entails. Sexual repression of males was also one reason, one that Kellogg's was a proponent for. He was also a proponent for carbolic acid to the clitoris for females. Aren't we glad that didn't catch on?

I'd be happier if neither caught on. Especially against babies. GM is vile.
