GREAT JOB ... NICE HANDS ON SKILLS ... retired Architect here ... love watching the trades do their thing ... from a previous comment I would also have recommended staggering the joints (4 ft) on the subfloor and/or doubling the joist at that center joint ... a couple of fine points from my experience would be to double the bottom plate to provide a better nailing base for wood base trim and also doubling the window sill plate for the same reason (attaching window trim) ... I also notice many framers run a flat member below the door and window headers to make sure they are able to attach door and window frames into solid wood and avoid hitting plywood spacers or voids in the header framing ... it appeared in the video that you may have some deterioration in the foundation sill plates of the main house structure (moisture issue from improper sill flashing) ... check out to make sure the wood is sound ... be sure to stagger joints on finish floor underlayment ... fire retardant spray foam and/or spray cellulose best insulation ... or 6" glass (R-19) in walls and roof structure ... all of this affects the cost (structurally, could have used 2x4 framing) but, a better product in the long term ...

You could've saved a few (expensive) 2x6s by making your trimmers (we call them jack studs) support the header and the window sill plate at the same time. What you did is great too. Just makes your wall beefier but cuts down on the amount of insulation you can add later. Good job!

@@BreakFreeHomestead I actually have a question. How do you level all the wall 2 by 6s when there on the ground ? Or do you just use your triangle square to male sure it's pretty square after measuring 16 inches on center and lineing them up to the middle of that mark. I know some times there not hundred percent level, so I was curious how you do it?

Hello. Great video. Showed me exactly what I need to do. Have one question. Submitted plans to city and they gave me a conditional approval. They want to know how addition walls are going to be connected to existing wall. It seems to me that since you did not remove the sheathing on the existing house all that needs to be done is to nail 2 x 6 walls ends to the sheathing. Am I missing something?
@BreakFreeHomestead
@BreakFreeHomestead Жыл бұрын
I did remove the sheathing and the walls are connected directly to framing, if a wall doesn’t land on a stud then frame across from stud to stud to get a connecting point.
