The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

I love how you got the chance to see the fish in the middle of your skunk, and it reenergized you to continue. So neat that that particular location allows you to do that. I recently had a 9 hour skunk over two days (6/3), but I know if I was exposed to a view of trout in the water between the break, I wouldn't have stopped after the latter 3rd hour, and would've kept fishing even longer. Also any serious fisherman should emotionally relate to when you said @11:44.."Ohhhh, it burns.....!". It so does when a fish comes off after a long grind. Finally, well done on the Hail Mary! Epic fight, and so well executed and narrated!! Appreciate how informative you are in general, but I'm so edge of my seat involved during these tense moments, everything you say hits at a deeper level. Two things make for a more-than-most successful fisherman: Passion and determination. You excel at both. Keep it up!!

You are missing out on my favorite way to fish for steelhead! Troll a small bright colored crankbait behind the kayak. Anchor up and let it trail in the current as well. Pink and white is my favorite for cloudy water.

nice vid man. you probably know this, but a good tip for that first hook up, it helps to try n keep your rod angled down stream and towards the bank (over your left shoulder/across your body to the left in that situation) at least on initial hookup. Theyre facing upstream, so when you turn the rod and pull up stream you are pulling the hook away and out of their mouth vs setting back into them and trying to hold it pinned back into their lip. I always try to set down stream and towards the bank even if your float is way down below you i set to the side and toward the bank vs setting straight up river depending on the spot. This has been my experience anyway, many may disagree but it works for me. Can also be a good method when they're running down stream, rod toward the bank and it can swing them in closer vs letting them go out into the river and use the current against you obviously that was not an option in this spot.. Sick vid and nice fish man.

Your perseverance is admirable and it paid off! You're able to find fish in just about any body of water! I kayak fish with a small group here in SoCal and we're planning a trip up north around March. I know you don't reveal your fishing spots but was hoping you could suggest any decent areas to target steelhead. Hey, if you're ever down South, hit me up. We'll take you to some great areas for lobster!

Try fishing for them in the salt! More like the fish if 10,000 casts 😂. I’ve caught two in the past 5 years on the beach by my house in Puget sound this time of year. Definitely easy to get discouraged but have come to terms with it and usually just enjoy my time out there cause I’m out there. I wish we had better hatchery programs up here in Washington! Thanks for the video as usual Adam! Nice catch!

Congrats on beating the skunk out!! Next time a fish gets that low on the river from you….keep the tip of the rod under the water surface, this creates a belly in the line pulling your float from behind the fish…tricking the fish into swimming up stream👍🏽

Grew up fishing the American but always struggled with getting bites from the bigger steelhead had much better luck with the Coleman strain fish and the"natives" using nightcrawlers as they seem to be more trouty. I've caught some nice salmon, stripers, lots of shad and wild trout in the upper forks. I miss those days now I've been stuck in Texas the past few years. It's good economically and the people are nice but definitely is lacking in clear gravelly rivers with trout and salmon and no mountains and trout streams just muddy catfish and bass water. Spring, summer and fall are ok-good for fishing winter outright sucks. Over here instead of American shad runs its white bass runs which are fun and ok eating

I had the same experience right there at the clay banks right under the bridge. I know exactly how you feel when your playing that hen. Keep your rod high, line tight and just feel the tension on your drag and pain stakingly make those small incremental adjustments on how much tension is needed so as not to break your line! Mine was 9.5lbs, and I pulled her in from across the river, not anywhere near the bank like yours. Took me about 12-14 minutes and kept expecting the line to break. It definitely takes skill to do it. You are a very determined Fisherman and another great video!
