I’m so glad to have found your channel! I have ADHD and learning new skills can often be very difficult for me. I’m not sure what it is about your teaching style, but you make things so easy to understand and give great practical tips. Keep doing what you’re doing and God bless.

I have ADHD too and he really does a great job of organizing his points quickly and effectively. I’ve learned a lot from his videos. I recommend Venus theory for the mental health aspect or producing. I’ve leaned a lot from him as well.

Your videos have been extremely useful. Earlier I used to make projects of around 70 tracks and it would all be messy, but I watched one of the videos you did on past and started focusing on arrangement more and keep only the things I need and now i get songs, which while they may not be the best, they are way better than my previous ones and they are usually around 50 tracks. Eventhough I knew this concept, I love the way you analyze and breakdown these things and i watch for another reminder, keep making such videos, they are very helpful. I love your videos!❤️

Amazing content as always. I love these types of videos tysm! Your Ocean Eyes video was probably the most helpful producing video I've ever seen lol. A couple breakdowns videos (especially of recognizable songs) if you can get your hands on them would be awesome yknow...?

I love analyses like this. Keeping the concept of minimalism in the back of your mind as you're producing is so important. Also, that floating vocal in the bridge at 15:18 is gorgeous! Thank you Nathan!

This is very cool. I appreciate the details and the isolation of tracks. Great song and your production is beautiful. It would be great to see some of your volume levels on tracks so folks might understand how to layer sooooo many vocal tracks and not blow out their overall mix… Killer work! ❤

Really great video! Thanks for sharing so much detail and insight. I’ve also always done layering and ‘candy’ as multiple tracks in my DAW, but synth and plugin vendors want us to do sound design (like combining 8 sources in ‘Cube’) in their tools, resulting in say….just 1 bass track with a combined sound 🧐 The problem is, the layering and sound design is buried in the plugin. I prefer to see it in my DAW. DAW or Synth/Plugin? What’s your opinion?

Yeah it kind of depends for me - I use Substance a lot which is a bass instrument with up to 3 layers and I do like it but generally I like splitting things up as well for layering, but if it sounds great then I usually don't care

Nathan, do producers like you typically only work with established artists, or do you work with songwriters who hire producers? I'm curious because I'm new to everything under this umbrella, but it seems like the more experienced producers only work with bigger artists.
@NathanJamesLarsen

Totally depends. I stopped taking on artist clients cause I'm focusing on my own music and music I'm making with a publisher I recently started working with where I'm setup with writing sessions with artists (most of whom are more on the successfully side) specifically to pitch for TV/Movies. There's no one path or one way. Most producers will work with an artist if they are good and have the budget. Some producers only do label work - others hate label work (that's me included). So it's a bit more just down to what that producer wants to do - a lot of top tier producers work only with certain artists. But I'm good friends with one of John Legends' and Demi Levato's producers and he's one of those dudes who would work with independent artists if they are good and have the budget. Again - depends entirely on what kind of business that specific producer does or wants. I took on a bunch of artist clients this year but stopped - cause I find a lot more long term satisfaction in my own music.

@@NathanJamesLarsen First, thank you for such a detailed, honest reply! I've learned so much from watching your channel, and I still have a ton of vids to go through yet. Even though a lot of the technical terms go over my head, you've given me a much better understanding of music production on a larger scale and just the amount of work and knowledge it takes to bring a song to life and get the desired sound as well as emotional effect. So, a HUGE thank you for that as well!!!

i think i've got a much better melody idea for the chorus. you're a great producer no doubt, but how far you'll go will pretty much depend on the level of the SONGS you produce, or the toplines written to your tracks. but great voice. do you know if she offers session singing online?
