@@l3ff3n Hey man, you forgot one ramble, the characters with grapples (Samus, Link, YL) are hurt by Battlefield's ledges. You have to be extra precise. I've seen countless matches where that played a role in turning the tide, particularly considering Samus and Link can live a long time.

I like how melee has legitimate stage counterpicks, counterpicks aren't nearly as important in ultimate or other fighting games, and I like this aspect of melee, and the bullshit on each stage keeps things fresh even though there are only 6 stages

Something i would love to see in the future of smash, is the option of selecting from a set of platform layouts to be used, or even mix things up, from giving you the option to select the stage from having walls or not have them, to have a Randall type of underneath platform, to have a smashville platform, etc, and a "main ground" that you can cross from underneath, to add more recovering options.

Learning to recover on Battlefield as a new player is rough. I play Marth and I remember hating Battlefield when I was just starting on Melee because I couldn't space my up-B correctly to not hit the ceiling under the ledge. I was so used to Ultimate Marth and Ultimate stages where you just ride the slope up to ledge.

Yoshi's has another thing. On the left platform there's a very small slice in the middle of the platform where if you aerial you won't land on the platform, you will fall all the way through and your aerial will stay active even though you dropped through. Saw it on gloomshot a few months ago, axe did it in the middle of a combo, someone in the comments labbed it out and apparently it's possible not just with pikachu but with several characters

since Randall isn't RNG, and to interact with it you don't need much precision such as the slopes or the "lips" in Yoshi's, I'd say it's totally ok, if not good for making the stage unique and fun (without talking about the glitches)

Shy Guys: When you hit lots of them at once, you're frozen in place for like a half a second which is pretty funny The technique of bouncing away from a throw off shy guys is called "Shy Guy D I" which rhymes a lot, very funny. If your character doesn't have a neutral b to charge, killing shy guys between stocks can be funny too. Some characters kill them in one hit. Overall they have a lot of great comedic value, but so does the big hammer that goes dundundundundundun Doo Doo Doo Doo. Enjoyable, but not appropriate in serious tournaments.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I like the random elements of stages in Smash that change the flow of the match. It’s a unique element that adds a level of excitement to a match that Smash has over its competition. Adapting to the bullshit is part of the skill tied to Smash. Homogenizing the stage list is incredibly boring and I think will ultimately hurt the game. The only other game I can think of where what stage you pick matters is Tekken. Tekken also has bullshit stages like Geese’s stage, but if you get 100-0’d or side-walled because of inconsistency, you just gotta hold that. It’s frustrating for sure, but it makes things way more entertaining for everyone involved.

As a link main I hope they never decide to turn off the shy guys for tournaments (like how they decided to freeze pokemon stadium). They are crucial for performing safe yolo down airs that would be totally unsafe otherwise. It’s a good trick to do on opponents when the dont expect a random downair. If you miss the downair then link bounces on the shy guys and is safe for the most part
