The fact that people are saying they’ll never listen to it again is exactly why hip hop is in the state it’s in. Not everything needs to be a head bopping party jam. This Kendrick song is prime hip hop, a poetic form of music.

He's still a man of substance and his mission is to bring substance back to the culture as a WHOLE. Dot has a purpose. His purpose is clear to him. He's merely fulfilling his purpose. Everyone connected to that purpose hears the call to act. We ain't really worried about how the rest receive it. Medicine doesn't always taste good but it makes you better. These are industry people, the party purveyors, if you will. Stop confusing them with ”the people”. They don't represent us, if the party died they are afraid their windfall will dry up. Of course they don't love it. I love the record, and have been playing everyday. It made me feel like putting on my ones to fight the good fight, and that track is addictive. The fact that he dropped it on 9/11 was genius too. RIP to all those casualties, they were just regular people going to work, that have become immortalized as foot soldiers in the war. To me, it's like the recessional hymn leaving church, strengthened to go fight evil. A rap jihad, so to speak. I know this is all over the place place, but it can apply to simply Drake, hip hop, black struggle, and worldwide struggle. I heard a young woman explain how it even made her consider the struggle Hatians are facing in their own country, and against bigotry and xenophobia here in the US. This song will be relevant 30 years from now. It's true art.

To be 100 percent fair to the whole "bigger than Drake" point of view. He DID live on stage at his Pop Out concert say, "This is bigger than me, this aint got shit to do with no motherfucken song or a diss". He's been talking about Unity in the West Coast and has always been a hip hop Purist. He seems genuinely fed up with how hip hop sounds today. I'd also like to point out how Kendrick has taken up for the West Coast while Eminem has taken up for East side and both are currently dominating the game right now. Two people who actually care about hip hop.

Think it's about the entire industry but there's definitely jabs a drake specifically
@drewlavay2 ай бұрын
But Drake represents "the industry" according to Kendrick (and a certain % of his fans). Which, I personally think is hilarious because Kendrick clearly, had "the industry" backing him during that beef. Fake shit. And I should say I love a lot of Kendrick's music, not all, but GKMC is a top 5 album in my book. Section.80 is one of, if not THE most underrated project ever and dude ran 2017. That music he was putting out during that time (DAMN, BP soundtrack, etc) was the soundtrack to my life for a good portion of almost 2 years.

@@drewlavayI don’t think Kendrick had the industry behind him. Everyone on drakes side was strangely quiet and all the spectators kinda had to acknowledge Kendrick killed him.
@mocahmcgrady75302 ай бұрын
@@drewlavayand drake it seems had mad way more enemies in the industry. We’ve kinda heard rumors about that. So it’s kinda smoking mirrors but i wouldn’t say Kendrick had support, it’s just more drake seem to alienate himself

It’s forsure one of the five stocks he teased. I think this was probably made in honor of Drake but it’s about the industry as a whole.

@@mocahmcgrady7530 that’s not true man Kendrick literally has Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg on his side. Stop acting like Kendrick is not the industry he’s one of the biggest media darlings. He is the industry whether you want to admit it or not.

People have been whining and complaining for years about wanting REAL HIP HOP back, the kind of hip hop that is raw with bars. And here you have Kendrick providing you nothing but that and people are hating on it? Just goes to show that the culture itself doesn't know what it wants. Y'all just love to complain and hate. No wonder Kendrick is mad.

Everybody wants something to dance to when y'all don't even dance. Hip Hop delivers a message Rap is entertainment. Kendrick is Hip Hop Drake is a rapper.

I said this, Hip Hop v Rap, in college, in a Black Economics class, many, many years ago and they were ready to pitch fork me! It is not the same! Commercial appropriation, indeed!

I took it as an epilogue for the beef which was about more than just them-Explaining what led him to walk Drake (or anyone else) down, and why it was about much more than him vs. Drake or numbers or money or any of the other nonsense I’m seeing people say online. It felt like he was reflecting on why he felt he had to do it. Drake serves as an avatar for the sad state of the culture/soulless industry 🦉😈

Can we just say if?? Big boy in the middle (I refuse to learn his name) is plain simple. Doesn’t deserve to speak on hip hop on such a platform given his inability to think deeply, be introspective or perspective enough to comprehend lyrics and concepts, time and time again.
