306 inches and 288 cfm@ .600 is never going to net 400whp. I calculated 469 on a 230 cam with 8:1 dcr and 7400 RPM. There are other ways to get higher NA power on 306 with known heads but they are impractical because all those ways are high rpm. I see you went straight rich with the Viper but this was a cool build. On the bright side if the motor is not near maximum effort somehow with some imbalanced choices, it should make 469 whp NA until the cows evolve into flying cows and fly home.

*addendum* * my labor costs are very likely on the high side since the shop that rebuilt my motor specializes in LS (this was their first 3v) * with respect to power, i think i (accidentally) lowered my compression ratio with the non-OEM ported heads (bigger chamber size) * at 4,500 feet i don't think there's enough air pressure for the stock heads to act as a restriction, possibly no benefit from ported heads until boost * the yOu sHoUld HavE CoYotE sWapPed iT folks are annoying, but they're not wrong * i am going to get this thing to 400whp before boosting

Man I’m not sure if e85 would be a viable option but I’m running e85 on my 3v and it gave it a kick and I’m already FBO just had to buy some 47Ib injectors and get 450 Walbro pump lol. Once I slap the hot rod cams I’ll for sure get my car on the dyno and see what it makes lol.

But I also forgot to say you should be able to turn up the RPM with the new cams that you plan on adding. I’m pretty sure the car should have a better top end as well since the motor is already stroked.

He mentions that his car has stock heads, stock cams, stock coil packs, stock cats, stock exhaust and tuned 60-70 lb injectors, dual 75 mm throttle body. Just wanted to mention this as an alternative to turbo charging. I believe the 3.2L LC Mammoth kit runs about $7K. Good Luck with your build and thanks for keeping everyone updated.

The point of return style fuel systems is to control pressure spikes and drops. The fuel pressure sensor is relative to your manifold pressure. If it reads 5psi of boost, the ecu will try to maintain 55 psi. When in actuality it is at 60 psi. This variability can cause pressure spikes because the pulse width that that fuel pump gets changed on the fly to control pressures.

I did this exact same rebuild for my 2007 mustang. This is a great video with good insight but do not waste the money unless you plan on installing forced induction also. Dont forget also that if you decide to do this for big HP you need a clutch, transmission, rear diff, axles, possibly a drive line. Luckily I did all my work myself so there was no labor costs except for the machine work, but I was into my build about $15k with EVERYTHING. I also recommend a return fuel system if you plan on the big HP numbers and especially if you want to run E85, E90, or E100, whatever your state has. I had twin 465 litre pumps and couldn't get over 700 whp with E85 because the fuel system could not support it. I did make 905whp on 110 race fuel. MMR is the place to go for modular motor parts.

@@Four_Eyes I used the stock Tremec 3650 but yes I had it fully built but it did fail on me 2 times before I took it out and went with a 5 speed TKO with face plated gears from liberty gears that claimed to withstand 1500 hp. Never had a problem with that one. I used the McLeod RXT twin disk clutch and that seemed to do fine, but I also sent it in and had them rebuild it every winter. With the big cam and clutch it became not as fun to drive in traffic because it would studder and shake at low speeds. I appreciate you watching and good luck with your videos, I enjoy watching them.

That's uh, a decent chunk of change for 370bhp. I know it's NA but still. Granted it'll handle that power very reliably and it's ready for a lot of boost for the future which is probably better than what I had to do to my Audi BAM engine to make similar numbers. Nice to see someone mod one of these though rather than just Coyote swap it. That's the easy way out. Now you get a sub :)

So the price for all the upgrades is a bit steep for performance per dollar but I appreciate a few things about this project. It’s a 3v, love the incremental upgrades and really focusing on efficiency, details regarding how the upgrades responded, and in the end this is your car. You are doing it your way. I’ve seen people spend more money and gotten less out of a project so appreciate the videos!

I am down here in Phoenix Arizona. The dyno shop that did mine is called dynocomp in Scottsdale Arizona. The owner Richard when I was looking for a dyno shop interviewing multiple that is. One of the things that I liked the most about him was this. If you are looking to see a particular number on the dyno go someplace else. If you want maximum power out of your engine but reliable and trustworthy I'll do it. Because I guarantee you go to any other dyno shop after I've done my tune on your car they will get a higher number by leaning out and jacking with the timing to unsafe conditions. The thing with your heads definitely can be a thing. A lot of people forget that engines are air pumps air in air out. When it comes to doing this kind of stuff that you and I are doing you got to figure up your volumetric efficiency in short how efficient is each cylinder pulling in air and utilizing it. But I would really like to potentially talk to you on the phone about this stuff if you're interested. I don't know enough about this KZbin communication because I know I don't want my contact information out for everybody and I'm sure you don't either but anyhow. If you don't want to because of too many weirdos out there. I get it. At the end of the day it's all good! And doing this kind of stuff is a lot of fun hell I just got done last weekend porting my throttle body. Which by the way collapsed my JLT air cleaner. Good luck In the regards to porting the heads I did port my heads I did a lot of research into it talking to guys that do porting that are willing to talk about it which is far and few between.

There are a few guys with single turbo 3v motors in my city. They all make 700+whp. As long as that bottom end you built can hold and the tuner knows what he's doing, you should be able to make some good power.

Good morning, last year I had to rebuild my 2008 mustang GT 4.6. and not spend nearly as much. But in a nutshell I got 380 horsepower and 356 ftlb to the ground. This is my first time ever commenting on a KZbin. I would love to send you a picture of my dino sheet to show you. Call me ignorant don't give a crap. But if you are interested I wouldn't mind discussing with you what I did and how I went about everything. When I was doing research rebuilding mine I watched your videos back then . I like your channel you helped me with my build maybe I can add some information for yours, or maybe not. Please do not take this as mine's better than yours or yours is better than mine it has nothing to do with that. Knowledge is power. Take care. Chris

I'm a track guy, race, not drag. IDGAF about a 40 roll. I use these for tracking and Tail of the Dragon. I daily a coyote powered Mustang but in my experience, a 3v 4.6 Mustang with intake, tune and a Roush suspension kit with stabilizer bars and Wilwood/Brembo brake kit is more than enough to dive into hard corners and blast out of them and be competitive with other drivers. I have a few cars and I tend to spin if I attempt this with my Coyote. (My 1991 ZR-1 kills my 2013 Mustang GT on the track quite easily so far). If you know you know, otherwise you're just slamming the throttle from light to light. Thank you for showing us this incredible Mustang man. It's certainly got a lot of attention! I'd keep it!

Wow, really great summary, to the point vid. Excellent content, and I don’t even have a mustang or a car to rebuild a motor, and not considering a crate motor. But if I do, I now have a new appreciation for crate motor pricing.

Nice! Got you beat on total price Ofcourse but it’s awesome you are showing off the 3v. My coyote swap was around 10k plus close to 3k for fuel lines etc. took about a month aswell. To get everything situated. Now I’m on full e-85 and I’m hoping to be pushing around 460. Keep up the build man. Wish I could see it.

I saw another SOHC 4.6 on utube & it was dragracing. Firstly it had big cams ported heads bored & stroked Fuel & air. It took 480 hp in a Viper to beat the 1995 3v!

I could have sworn you got the car up and past 400rwhp in a previous video! $16.5k to have the car sitting where it is seems real intense, but hopefully it's at least at a point where it can start making the power with its forged internals. Can't wait to see what's to come!

So cheaper to Boost a 6 banger and get way more power. Cheaper to build an LS and get more power too. That really is a labor of love, good for this guy. I can respect this, that's love for what you own and that's admirable no matter what platform.
