This cannot be overstated enough. Even just thinking about my own childhood, mere schoolyard rumors about this show shaped the friendships I had. When I became a fan I spent my formative years consuming DBZ fan content, joining DBZ communities, bonding over both the online and local multiplayer games, etc. While it's bittersweet that he is gone, for me it's mostly a shame he couldn't simply live a longer life for himself. The series more or less peaked with Z and Toriyama got to hopefully get some well deserved rest after working so hard for so many years. The fans, game developers, etc. did an incredible job making gold out of what existed at the time, which is incredible when you think about how long the wait was between GT and Battle of Gods. Hopefully the IP continues to thrive. It's only right that every generation feels as awesome as we did watching the series growing up and further immortalizes this man in the process.

This is one of those that just hits like it is someone you are actually close to, I am in shock, this man saved my sanity when I was growing up, I was a lonely kid, alcoholic father, a mother didn't even talk to me, dragon ball z on toonami gave me a reason to want to rush home every single day after school, I am 38 now and have rewatched all the dragonball series multiple times over the years, I still watch dragonball clips on most days when life gets hard, when I put on something with the bruce faulconer score to get pumped at the gym, etc etc. This franchise is my favorite franchise of all time, my parents nor anyone else never bothered teaching me life lessons or anything else useful to navigate life, but thanks to this man I was inspired to believe that no matter how bad the situation looks like you can never stop looking for a way, to always push your limits and go further beyond, and so much more that would make this way too long, RIP Akira Toriyama, thank you for all the memories, I dare say without exaggerating thank you for saving my childhood, may you get to keep your body in otherworld and get the best training from king kai 🙏

Honestly I'm also at a loss for words, I didn't think it would be now of all times. He won't see daima then. But idk man, death is always a weird topic to formulate. This man Akira was not only inspiration for all (generations) but a talented and like Goku, he knows how to draw people in. I remember being 6-7 years old first experiencing Dragonball through the first Budokai on the PS2 with my family. It's one of my treasures memories. After that I watched toonami with both Dragonball and Dragonball z, back in the 2001. I even have all the manga for dragonball z and half the manga for dragonball. This man inspired me to draw and my love for art and anime. It was hard to draw at first, but after 20 plus years, I become so much better. My art style is based on his work, mixed with other mangaka and people I like. He even inspired me to make my own creative world and story, to which I still practice with my own comics and my own reference art/character design every other day. Even though it feels like I'm copying him at times haha. He even got me doing digital art and tryna replicate his color style from the anime. I even like his dragon quest stuff, Chrono trigger, his older works like slump and ackman and tobal as well. Maybe sandland coming out now makes more sense to me now. Even daima. I feel it in my soul to just look into those now, I'm ngl (I did cry while writing this). Look Dragonball was my life growing up, it's one of the only anime or show in general I watched and never got tired of. It's still my favorite now, and I watched/peeked into a lot of different genres of anime over the years. It inspired me to be who I was then and inspired as I am now. I know I criticized super and toei for some of their choices, and even minus/daima a lot, also again for some choices. But they still Dragonball, and I still support it, even if it's not my favorite work and I will still do so, as long as I'm still living. Its heartbreaking to see you go and Dragonball is never gonna be the same without you (no matter who has control over it now). But you gave birth to so many artists and fans who were inspired by your work ethic, world building and story telling. Inspiring generations of people across the world for decades. Only Dragonball can come back from 20 years of nothing (from just nostalgia) and still be as popular as it now, with the characters and fights, and forms and the story, and the world itself. So thank you for everything that you done, you made a world a better place and you left your mark. While I was conflicted on what Dragonball's future is now that you moved on, I'm not anymore. And you know why? It's because I know there are people out there that would continue what you left, your legacy with honor and pride. So I'm not worried, well maybe a bit since you won't be here to witness it. Nah I take that back, yeah you would be. I feel like that is what connects us all, and on a spiritual plane, nobody really dies, your spirit lives on through all of us that love you. If we meet again, I would like to ask how you got so good with the pen/character designs and what inspired your artwork. I'm eternally grateful, as I assume many are as well RIP my GOAT (I don't call nobody goat ever as I don't believe in it, but today is the first day for it, cuz you are the GOAT) Rest easy 🙏

I can't believe Toriyama passed away. I always thought that Goku's Japanese voice actor would be the first to go, I never thought Toriyama would leave us so soon. My dad passed away in 2015, and he was the reason I got into Dragon Ball. Watching Dragon Ball Super always felt like he was watching along with me and my family. Now the creator of the series that my dad love is gone. I wish him the best of luck on his next journey.

I woke up seeing an article on this news and its crazy. I don't even know if I'm processing it correctly. This man did what he loved for 45 years and had a massive impact on so many lives for so many years. I grew up seeing Dragon Ball, it was mentioned in my household for years, but its only recently I started getting into it as a big fan. Toriyama's works meant so much to me but its his life and the way he lived it having fun and doing what he loved that I wanna think about now. With this kind of passing, there's often concern of "what will happen to the series?" And I get it, its a part of our lives and something we loved, I'll admit guilt that I've had thoughts of that, but I think for now, our biggest focus should be on his life. Thank you Toriyama. May God grant you the highest level of Heaven and help your family through this difficult time. My heart, prayers, and condolences go out to them all. This man had such a bright, beautiful future and I hope we can honor his legacy. As you said, he wasn't perfect. But he had sn undeniable impact. And as others mentioned, he inspired so much, so much out there is because of him.

Toriyama doesn’t get enough credit for what he’s done for the shonen genre and anime at large. Dragon Ball is one of my favorite things ever made and while I didn’t know the man I’m still going to miss his vision. Akira’s Dragon Ball really is the king of battle anime. Thank you for all the memories

Akira Toriyama had one of the most influential impacts on my childhood. Without his works I never would have started working out at age 16, I never would have had as many inspiring characters help motivate me through adversity, and I never would have a found a passion for storytelling and video editing (I made a lot of AMVs back in the day). An absolute legend that so much of the anime and manga scene owes itself to today. R.I.P. Hero.

I didn't expect to cry for someone I didn't personally know like this. 68... he was still young. Not a lot of people understand that Dragonball is so important to me. I wouldn't be an artist or writer without Toriyama's work. I'm definitely going to cry again when Daima is release and they put an "in memory of Akira Toriyama" at the end. Thank you, Toriyama. We'll miss you, but your work will live on in the hearts of millions around the world.

I heard about this last Thursday night. I was in absolute disbelief... I thought there was no way, but not until I did more researching, I found out the hard way that it was real... I had a real hard time processing this. But on a high note, all I really want to say is that I'm thankful for everything he's done throughout is career, and I am truly thankful for all the emotions, art, and characters that he's created. Akira, even though your not with us anymore, and even though I'm still completely hurt that you'll never get to see your ongoing works being finished, I want to say for the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you've given us. Thank you for creating Goku, my number 1 favorite character of the series, thank you for putting out such amazing battles, and most of all, thank you for inspiring us fans to learn and grow. Rest in peace sensei 🙏 We love you 💖 Shine even brighter in the heavens.👼
