Does this mean that semi trucks are banned also? This seems strange for a society that relies on semi-tractor/trailers to move goods. I’m confused about CA passing the law that all cars will become electric when we hear about them having rolling blackouts because they don’t have enough electricity when there is extra pull on the grid. There is much more going on here in Kalifornia with CARB than just motorhomes. The Barstow International Gateway rail project has been stopped by CARB because they require electric long haul freight engines that do not exist. This will damage our entire supply chain. Only electric trucks will be able to move containers from the ports of Long Beach and LA. This will require a massive increase in electric power production. The trucking companies are saying 57% increase. We are on track to produce less power. This is all about control and not the envirement.
@Carl_in_AZ7 күн бұрын
Based on my prior work experience as an electrical power generation engineer at Cummins and AEP, electric vehicles in Norway only raised grid requirements by 7% after they had migrated 26% of their total fleet trucks and 97% of their passenger vehicles to electric. Texas has more renewable power than the rest of the USA, but California is quickly adding more. Today, Texas is 31% run on renewables, and California is 39% because it is on a smaller energy grid. By 2035, I would not be surprised if 60% of both state's power comes from renewables. For example, 57% of Germany's and 50% of Spain's power comes from renewables, and they plan to reach 74% before 2030.

They are still able to sell up to 500 or fewer heavy duties trucks and will be exempt, and they may bank credits or trade zev and nzev credits and can voluntarily reports these credits. Cummins offers a hybrid powertrain for heavy vehicles. The issue with Edison is their desgin runs on a CAT engine, which has been outlawed in the USA. That is why CAT no longer offers diesel engines on over-the-road semis. They can only use their engines in construction and non-movable generators. For the last 15 years, 15 to 60-liter deisel engines have been used as generators to power the batteries that run electric motors supplied on mining trucks.

It seems like Ford is selling enough electric Transit vans, Lightning electric trucks, and Mustang Mach E to allow them to keep selling the class A and class C van chassis for many years. And maybe they will start to make motorhomes based on the F-600 and F-650 truck chassis. For a 40 foot long RV, the F-750 might also be a choice. There is a company that is making a conversion for the F-550 trucks in Colorado, to a electric motor in place of the V8 they removed from the F-550 trucks and they also convert the E-450 van chassis too.

But prices are easily double the price of the regular campervans.

What effect do you anticipate on resale value for motorhomes because of this regulation? A heavy-duty natural gas vehicle typically has a range of 550 to 700 miles on a full tank. Would it be possible to have the larger RVs converted to compressed natural gas? Of course, it's an infrastructure problem, but, this would be a work around. And, you mentioned that most RVs are only driven 3,000 to 5,000 miles per year meaning that they are mostly used on shorter trips.
@TenMinuteTrips7 күн бұрын
@markweiner3896 A ban on the future manufacture and sale of diesel motorhomes is actually great for resale value. Supply versus demand. A ban on future manufacture and sale of privately owned and operated diesel motorhomes does not require the retrofit of older diesel motorhomes to alternative fuels. 3,000 to 5,000 miles per year can mean either be a few shorter out and back trips, or it can mean one major trip that covers a few thousand miles over several weeks. Many RVs rack up only snowbird miles, or are hardly moved at all. The age of the tires is usually a more important consideration than the total mileage on the coach. My California registered 1995 Safari Trek with a GM 6.5 liter turbo diesel engine, has been accepted by CARB as an exempt, privately owned and operated motorhome. There’s no reason for anyone not planning on buying a new diesel pusher anytime soon, to panic about this regulation.
@JohnJohn-wr1jo7 күн бұрын
Let's not forget the number of motor homes that are driven 0 miles per year. It's much higher than u think and it skews the averages lower. COMMENT. I'm proud of my diesel engine and hate to see them retire this way. If the RV manufactures were doing their part, they wouldn't be in this fix. If they were making smaller Class B and C EV RV's, they would have credits to continue selling the larger Class A diesels. Your comment that the technology isn't there yet to power the large motor homes is incorrect. And that the tires and framework would be so huge that it would damage the roadway is also incorrect. My brother drives a school bus. He said the school district recently purchased 2 large EV buses. He said they have 2 batteries - one on each side between the front and back wheels about where the fuel tank would be. He said the batteries weigh about 1000 lbs which is about the same as the 110 gal fuel tank on his bus which weighs about 900 lbs when full of fuel (anf no heavy diesel engine). He said the drivers love them. They are a lot more powerful than the diesels. At the end of a 100 mile day their batteries are still about 3/4 full. He said they have infarred heaters under the windows along each side which run from the front of the bus to the back. He said when they turn the heaters on, it is instantly warm in there and the kids love the heat. The average weight of a school bus is 25,000 to 36,000 lbs, so very comparable to an RV. The most accurate point you make is that the industry is not ready for them. Imagine driving into a campground and plugging into a 50 amp electrical pedistal to run your 3 air conditioners on your RV. Now, where are you going to plug your vehicle into to charge your vehicle batteries, especially if you are only there for a 1 night stay. And to make matters worse, most of the RV's in the campground are EV's too. The campground doesn't have the electrical capacity or infrastructure. 5th wheel manufacturers like Keystone and Grand Design have been converting to solar power with panels on the roof. If a Class A had 4 or more solar panels on the roof, maybe it could recharge the EV batteries.

The ban to push people into E-vehicles is NOT giving American people choices. These manufacturers will be boosting sales in the remaining states, and California buyers will find a way to register their 'A' and 'C' s in another state that is still using common sense. The wording in their coming law is typical gov. leaving the door wide open for them, but not for consumer. The consumer will find a way, in the meantime, I feel sorry for the dealers and mfgr's and their investment loss.

Profoundly SAD NEWS for so many RV Owners and those who rely on the RV INDUSTRY to provide for their families. Afew years ago a goof friend of ours who is a long distance "Big Rig" Trucker was discussing this topic with us (he forecasted these changes when going to happen). He owns a large Class A Diesel-powered Motorcoach and was concerned about this 3 plus years ago! We took his concerns to heart and purchased a NEWMAR Class A GASOLINE ⛽ MOTORCOACH on a 53f FORD CHASSIS on "A Hope and A 🙏 Prayer 🙏" that the southern most States would not follow through with this kind of BAN. Time⏳ will tell... but it's still a monumental concern for the entire RVING community. Our friend onws his own "Big Rig" Tractor-trailer and his Diesel-powered Motorcoach. I can't even imagine 😢 💔 it from his perspective 😔 and others who are affected by this.

Profoundly GOOD NEWS for the citizens of those 6 states. Those who sell RVs can sell Sprinters. Nothing ruins a trip to a state or national park like getting stuck behind a class A motorhome. Once in the park they are an eyesore. The noise! Generators and other systems hum all night.

Only if the Republicans win the House and Senate along with the White House. The CARB exemption to the Federal clean air rules is a law and can only be changed by a bill passed by congress and signed into law by the President.

Good! As a resident of both CA and OR, I vote in both states (not in the same election). I support the ban of Class A motorhome sales. No BFD. This is what we voted for, this is what we want. We went to the Supreme Court over the issue and prevailed. As for $ lost due to lost sales and registration - for god sake we have the largest economy in the USA and plenty of other sources of revenue. Move to Texas.

I think the American citizens come together and sign a petition all 50 states vote to reform carb so all states can express there thoughts and allow every state has its rights to there own clean air act and ban calif, from controlling our rv,off road vehicles, classic cars strict laws being forced on by democratic parties from charging milage tax, destroying our recreation lifestyle and banning all recreation activities on public lands and crushing this economy more and let the people vote on it by creating a new bill banning such laws😊 what do you think america ?
