I didn’t really know whether or not Neil “owned” the scripts. But it sounds like Amazon actually buys them from him I don’t think I’ve ever been so afraid GO wouldn’t happen when these allegations surfaced. When other shows are canceled, it's generally because there just wasn't enough audience for them. But if this does, it will be out of fear/a sense of 'punishment'. Only, the people actually getting punished would be the fans, and everyone else working on the show. The 'target' of the punishment would barely feel a thing. It would feel terribly unfair, because it would be.

Very well said. We as a collective fandom need to also remember that "Good Omens" isn't just Neil Gaiman's story, it is also Late Sir Terry Pratchett's story too. So if someone else, say, Rob Wilkins, has to step in to complete the story, I'll be fine with that. I fully understand why "Good Omens" season 3 is being postponed for the time being. I have faith that "Good Omens" season 3 will be made and eventually put on Amazon Prime. The reason is that Season 3 will be/is the final season of "Good Omens". This means that Amazon can make the third and final season of "Good Omens" and move on to something new. Also to quote our favorite angel, "nothing lasts forever". This is important to keep in mind with everything that's going on right now. This whole Neil Gaiman issue/situation won't last forever. Someday we'll move on from/come to terms with this moment in our own ways. Until then, please remember that "Good Omens" is the brainchild of both Sir Terry Pratchett AND Neil Gaiman. If some of you can't watch/read "Good Omens" because of the allegations against Neil Gaiman, then watch/read "Good Omens" for Sir Terry Pratchett instead. Especially since Terry wrote at least 75% of the book and/or the book's ending (I can't remember if Terry said that he wrote 75% of the book or 75% of the book's ending). Either way, the book has two authors and it would be unfair to forsake "Good Omens" completely because of the possiblely true (I don't know for sure) illegal misconduct of one of the authors in question.

The problem with replacing Neil Gaiman is that his writing is the link to Terry Pratchett. I really hope they can use Gaiman's ideas to finish Good Omens in the spirit Terry Pratchett would have wanted. Otherwise: Let justice be served. Still waiting for more and especially more reliable information on that though ... Thank you!
@Sendarya
@Sendarya 9 күн бұрын
Well, the scripts are still written by Gaiman, so that shouldn't be a problem. Assuming he is replaced, it would be as show runner and producer, I would think. They won't be paying anyone else to rewrite what they already paid Gaiman to write.
@Lex-cp5eg

I don’t know what more reliable information you want than the victims’ own words. Plus the recorded phone calls/voice notes from Gaiman. Plus the email exchanges. And the NDAs he had them sign. And the money he both paid them directly to mitigate the impact of his actions and offered to (but didn’t) pay as a form of restitution to sexual violence organizations.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of her who brings... ...bad news in a way that is so comforting and uplifting. Thank you Sendarya. I am so glad you and your channel exist. In a way I also am also glad that the allegations that came to light are not glossed over. I am glad the victims spoke out about Neil Gaimans invasive behaviour and that they are heard and believed - and that there are consequences for a person who coerced and hurt other humans, who were in a position of dependence. I hope the women that were hurt heal. I hope so very much that there will be a way that all the others who are part of good omens and worked so hard to give us this wonderful work of art will be able to continue without Neil Gaiman. Good Omens is so much more. And even if it may be paused for a long time. This fandom is not a fandom of Neil Gaiman. - Yes, I admit, I am glad, that Neil honored the wish of Terry Pratchet and worked to bring the story to life. Both can be true: I hate what he did to the women who spoke out and I am glad that he did start the Good Omens project. - That said I am not a fan of Neil Gaiman I am a fan of the wonderful characters of good omens and the actors that brought them to life and the whimsical details in the set and the costumes. I love the music of Good Omens. I am a fan of the questions other fans ask, the deeper meaning they find in the story, the knowledge they share. I am a fan of fanfiction that spins tales about the love Aziraphale and Crowley represent. I am a fan of the openness, creativity, vulnerability and humanity that fans in this fandom show each other. No one can take that away from me.

The late great Sir Terry Pratchett may not want a serial rapist to continue his legacy. He may not want an exploiter of vulnerable people to use his (Terry’s) work and reputation to further prop up his own ego and platform. I can’t say for certain what he would want, but we owe it to him to at least consider that he wouldn’t want his work to be part of a former collaborator’s attempts to steamroll credible allegations, sending a message of indifference to SA victims. When I think of Sir Terry Pratchett’s values and life’s work, I have to think that he would take very seriously the possibility that some vulnerable persons would end up subjected to the treatment that many fans of Gaiman’s work have related to us over the past few months. And that he would want to stop that from happening.

Everyone will have to make sacrifices to make season three possible. Although I have to admit that I personally still find it difficult to send Neil into the desert. “We” use his scripts (which are very likely finished by now), but don't let him be part of it. I very much hope that Amazon will find a fair solution for all involved and both camps of fans.
@Sendarya
@Sendarya 9 күн бұрын
A fair solution would be ideal! His ego may get in the way. What's best for the show and what's best for Neil May no longer be the same thing, and that's understandably probably hard to reconcile.

@@Sendarya That is very true! But as a writer and creator myself, I know how hard it is to give away your heart and soul without getting the credit for it - and without completing the whole story on your own that started 35 years ago. That is a lifework! Believe me that has nothing to do with the ego. But please don't misunderstand, this is not meant to be a criticism. It is probably the only possible way to save S3. My objection was merely intended to raise general awareness with regard to intellectual property.

Call me cruel but I think he deserves it. The insult of using his scripts and IP but cutting him out of the series and fandom completely is absolutely nothing compared to the pain he's cause to multiple women (and likely many, many more than the 5 that have come forward). I hope it's something that Amazon and BBC studios can reasonably do. In an ideal world, Neil would realise the error of his ways, step down willingly and donate any money he's already made to RAINN but I think the likelihood of that is pretty much zero.

Thanks for this - tumblr's been absolutely bonkers today. What I'd like to say to everyone is this - this fandom goes far beyond the show or book, far beyond Neil. Sir Terry would love it. Neil might not so much at this point. Point is, if we don't get our final season on screen, there's roughly a bajillion endings over on AO3. A lot of them include the cottage in the South Downs. There's one called Don't Fall Away From Me that could really be the entire plot for Season 3. It's a hell of a read, and very dark, but totally worth it. And there are fluffier versions of the end out there if you don't want the angst. We will be okay. We just need to reach out to each other, and remember to do so with love.

As far as I'm aware, production of season 2 is still ongoing. Since filming began in February of this year, they are likely wrapped or nearly so, perhaps doing some reshoots. This far in to production, I cannot imagine they will cancel one of their tentpole IP's when it's so near completion. What it means for a potential season 3 will likely depend on the season 2 reception.

Hm. I had a response to another post that seems to have been deleted for some reason. Oh well - I'm going to repost something I posted in a different forum, but it was in response to the same thing - that some folks feel that they need to "burn" all of NG's work, "punish him" for his behavior, etc. I responded to part of another post, which said this: "Reducing these issues to simple black and white moral equations kind of ignores the larger fallout that we tend not to think about." (They were speaking about all the cast/crew etc who would be without this job, some of whom are very vocal allies, and mentioned that "cancelling the entire project because of him says "only the behaviour of this one guy matters". It actually puts more importance on NG than I think we really want to give him.) I responded: Exactly. It also ignores the entire concept of separating the art from the artist. Which, if you have studied art or literature at all, you know that you basically HAVE to do. Quite a bit of art in the history of the world has been made by not-so-great people. If you want to destroy anything that's been made by a fallible human being, well - good luck with that. There's also the concept brought up by that meme that was popular a while ago - "The worst person you know just made a really good point". And if you stop to think about what that really means - it means that if we were to categorically eliminate/destroy any good thing just because it was made by a bad person - you'd be destroying a lot of actually good, and even necessary things, to what - prove some kind of point? And in fact, sometimes stoking the fire of outrage is for that precise purpose - to flush the baby with the bathwater, because some folks also don't like the baby. (And I definitely think there's some of that going on here.) My point - Neil should not profit *from his abuse*. But that's not actually the question here. We're dealing with art that is _separate_ from whatever abuse he might have perpetrated. And that needs to be VERY clear. Amazon has already paid for the scripts, I believe. That means that Amazon owns them, not Neil. They can finish making the art, while removing Neil from any further direct influence over, or even perhaps profit from, the finished product. (There's some iffiness to the validity of that as well, given previous arguments, but let's just say. They could do that, to pacify people.) I truly don't believe that everyone else - the people working on the production, and the fans OF THE STORY especially, should be punished, for something that THEY did not do. tl;dr, Separate the art from the artist. The art isn't about the wrongdoing. They are separate, and CAN be dealt with separately. (Edit - I just now saw that NG has stepped down from the production. That's great, and exactly what should happen, at this point.)

I really hope the show doesn't get cancelled, we need this happy ending for Crowley and Aziraphale. Before I say anything else I should perhaps add that I'm a woman myself and had faced a mild harassment, so I know how awful that can be and noone should go through that. I'm also a Ukrainian, so I know a thing or two about abandoning the artists you once liked because they chose to be on the wrong side of history. (And guess what - some companies chose to remain in russia yet I don't see an angry mob demanding to cancel them. Do I buy the products of those companies - not if I can help it. Do I want everyone to do the same - no, it's a personal choice) With that being said...and I know this is not a popular opinion but I'm so done with today's cancel culture. I mean, people should be punished for any crimes they committed and being famous doesn't make you immune to that. But that's what court is for. Anyone as an individual can make a choice whether to engage with the accused person. However, I don't think it should be forced on society as a whole. Too many famous artists, writers and scientists of the past weren't perfect and had done some horrible stuff. Do we get to cancel them as well? Do we want to rob ourselves of like 90% of our cultural and scientific background because people who created it were complex, not always decent or simply followed the societal norms of their era (which we now consider outdated, chauvinistic and non-inclusive)? I don't. Even though I avoided certain artists when I was a teen and had more black-and-white thinking which is normal for teens. Would people behave the same way towards their neighbour or a family member who did the same thing? They might choose to cast him out their own social circle but I doubt they'd try to force their opinion on the whole street/district/town or all family members. What I'm trying to say here is perhaps we should not perceive the author and their creation as one inseparable whole. Perhaps we should focus more on ourselves and our own effort to make the world a better place. And I know many would disagree with me on this but cancelling someone doesn't make much difference even in the long run because you can't control behaviour of others. People will still be people, with all their flaws, imperfections and lack of desire to adhere to certain things. Prisons are still full of criminals despite them knowing they can get caught and spend some years locked away. Again, that's just my personal opinion, not a fact. I'm fine with the notion that most people would disagree with me.

It’s weird, but I actually have pretty high hopes! I’m not that worried the show may be cancelled, like you said, Amazon invested way too much money into this to cancel it completely at this point. If they stop now they WILL make a big loss. I think they now just try to figure out which path will guarantee them more money: keeping Neil and (mostly) staying on the track they planned, thus loosing potential viewers to piracy or to drop the show completely (both equally devastating for them, if those numbers are too high). Or letting Neil go as a showrunner and either letting Rob Wilkinson take over completely or getting someone else to take his place. And the scripts are (mostly) finished. Neil has talked to people (certainly Rob) about what he and Terry envisioned for the finale. So the vision is probably mostly known, at least to the people that matter in that regard. And if the third season is still great without Neil (which isn’t that unlikely knowing which actors we have to work with the scripts and since the rest of the crew mostly stays the same) then there is a good chance that many of the fans who originally said they don’t want to watch Good Omens without Neil as showrunner would reconsider watching it. Also Neil has also said - if I remember correctly- that for season 2 he hasn’t been on set for that much anyway and that he misses being just an author. So yeah, I think it’s quite possible that Neil would be replaced and that the show will still be great after that.

I've said since the news that they need to bring in John Finnemore. He's a great and well respected comedy writer and IMO made S2 better. (BTW it's pronounced John Finn E More. ) He had his own comedy series on BBC Radio 4. I do feel upset and hope that it's resolved soon. I'm also annoyed that I'm seeing some fandom voices saying it should be cancelled. Really stop spoiling other people's lives. You're not the morality police, and you don't know these people. Some articles say “ paused” and some say “ suspended”. Neil owns the story. Corporations like Amazon will not want scandal associated to a project. Hard to move forward with Neil owning the rights. Beloved actors are employees and not producers or directors. It is very hard to believe Neil would transfer or give up his rights. Amazon would not want to have every article to end with a quote about the scandal or actors asked frank questions in every interview attempting to promote it. I think Neil is more than show runner. David and Michael are actors. They will likely accept other projects and not leave schedules unbooked, understandably. They want to work so if the pause is too long, they will move on to other opportunities. Time will tell. There is a strong fanbase but also strong opposition and many who will not view Series 3. Amazon knows this. Itis really very sad. There are legal contracts involved. Historically networks have been known to cancel series despite actor contracts. They usually have clause’s reserving the right to cancel at will. It would be great to have a true ending to Good Omens and not an unfinished one. Time will tell.

It's great "Good Omens" is going forward, I hope the same occurs for "Sandman". Mr. Gaiman is being vilified for being a heterosexual male with a strong libido who is somewhat a libertine with a kink. It seems clear that some fans of his work want to believe Mr. Gaiman is a eunuch who lives like a monk. Well he's not. Turns out he's a skirt chaser (that's not a crime). Furthermore, the two women who made the initial accusations could have left his company at anytime (one even pursued him). The women were not drugged like Roman Polanski did to Samantha Geimer, or restrained and prevented from leaving like what was done to Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus by Ariel Castro in Cleveland, so there's no crime. Again, the women could have said "No, not doing that." But they didn't, and to now say he held some power over them is to say that those women are weak-minded fools who don't have any agency over their own lives (which I don't believe).

If only people understood the word "coercion". So, men and women who stay in abusive relationships are weak? That seems like some pretty serious victim blaming. @@Sendarya wrote: "Hopefully with some nuance and depth of understanding, fueled by research and keeping an open mind that their pre-existing idea may indeed be incorrect." You forgot one very important aspect that will impact any "nuance and depth of understanding," that is THE FACTS, and the facts as they stand indicate Mr. Gaiman did not force those women to participate. I'm going to repeat because you're ignoring the facts, both of those women were not drugged or held against their will. In addition, their levels of trauma forced them to run right out and wait several years before making a police report (which the authorities found doesn't have merit). Sandarya also wrote: "So, men and women who stay in abusive relationships are weak? That seems like some pretty serious victim blaming." Yes, they are. There are plenty of organizations (both government and non-government) where a sexual abuse victim can go for help. None of the women involved seemed to be stupid, so for NOT TAKING AGENCY over their lives, they prove themselves to be weak-minded fools. Sendarya also wrote: "f only people understood the word 'coercion'". That would include you, for the definition of coercion is "the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats.". The women weren't forced to engage in sex with Mr. Gaiman, and no allegations of threats have been leveled, so "coercion" doesn't apply.

There was also corroboration from two other women who chose to stay off the record and remain anonymous. There's almost certainly more allegations coming given there's been rumours about him on the Whisper Network for decades.
