Thanks for this little historical video on the speed records. I well remember Campbell and the Coniston crash! The news went around the world and it was the talking point for some time. My Dad used to follow these records and often mentioned remembering the 1927 crash at Pendine Sands. He was 11 then. It’s interesting to see the place where it happened, so many thanks for sharing, Brian. You’re certainly putting that new video to good use😊 Enjoy your holiday!

Reminds me of the early days of Daytona Beach, Florida, where they used to do high-speed racing on the beach.

Campbell and Sir Henry Segrave both set land speed records there.

Thanks Brian -- did not know of that location and had only heard the names of some of the speed drivers from back then. Nice to know more of the history -- and the still photos of 'Babs' -- and it's cool that it was not only restored for display, but they have also driven it on the sand there also!

@@aengusmacnaughton1375 they’ve run it I’m several places. It was running at the goodwood festival of speed last year and the ladies told me that it’s coming out for a driving event in November too

@@ThatMicro43Guy -- Well, there's hope for us yet! The car is a good bit older than we are, and it's still getting out and racing!!! 😁

Very good video Brian, which tells the story well. One point, at around 4.28 you show a photo of Parry-Thomas's assistant (at that time) Reid Railton, but the man on the right is another record breaker that died trying to go one better on water, John Cobb. He's holding a model of the jet-powered boat that killed him, Crusader. Besides setting world LSRs, Cobb also did the fastest ever lap around Brooklands at 143 mph.

@@nlanca1 thanks for that. I was going to mention John Cobb but thought I’d start confusing things. We have had an amazing number of record breakers in this country, the whole Campbell family, Sir Malcolm Donald, Gina and her Cousin Don Wales, Cobb, Henry Seagrave, Richard Noble, Andy Green , George Eyston

@@ThatMicro43Guy Yes its always impressive to go back over the history. One thing that occurs; they used to alternate Babs between the Pendine Museum and Brooklands - I saw her there several years ago. I'm not sure if they still do this over the winter. Babs also gets taken out to events during the year.
@ThatMicro43Guy2 ай бұрын
@@nlanca1 I believe they still do alternate it.

Fascinating history. How did you keep the footage from getting any footstep up and down motion? So smooth. My Pocket 3 does a little bobbing when I walk. I try ninja walking. I did find a longer selfie stick helps.
