Weapons spending is not comparable between Russia and America. Russia’s military industrial complex is still a hybrid state capitalism on purpose. They can control the costs more effectively than America, so they can get more for less. If Russia decides to declare a war, Kyiv would be turned to desert in 24 hours and millions of people would die. USA should strongly reconsider their moves.

Exactly, for the West it ISN'T an existential threat but they are behaving as if it were. The West really needs to understand that Putin doesn't bluff - that should be obvious by now, so if it keeps pushing and threatening, and ignoring Putin's responses, it might just tip the balance. So, the problem for Russia is how to respond in such a way that doesn't trigger a nuclear war but scares the West sufficiently to make it back down.

For an example of what nuclear winter would look like, read the book about the eruption of Tambora in 1815, the particulate injected into the atmosphere by the eruption caused three years of abnormal global temperatures, winter weather in the summertime, melting ice in the north, global agriculture failures, mass human migration, a mass die-off of animals and fish, disease, famine, wars, changes in society ... the nuclear exchange of modern nuclear weapons would not only inject more particulate into the atmosphere, the particulate would be radioactive for thousands of years ...

Tambora is small compare to Yellowstone. I think if 1 nuke explode right at center of Yellowstone.... Game over for human.

Highly informative discussion. Really appreciate it. It helps in my research and writing on the topic for an African audience. We need to open up as many fronts as possible against the US empire to overextend it and cause its ultimate retreat. That will also help the activist taking on the empire from within to gain progressive victories and improve the terrible situation at home.

As the the crazies talking about using nukes. I want to point out and you can confirm it yourselves. Dating back to the 80's and 90's. There were studies and even military scientific papers. On the use of thermal nuclear weapons. PBS, Nature, Military Channel, Discover, and so on covered this. And one FACT came out consistently. That only 30 thermal Nuclear missiles will bring about nuclear winter. Why is this? Well 1st of all, is the fact that each missile has dozens of warheads..2nd the thermal Nuclear warheads are 100000 times the destructive power as single atomic bomb used on Japan. This means that 100000 atonic bombs will equal the destructive power of 1 thermal Nuclear warhead. And each missile carries dozens of these warheads. So for each Ballistic Thermal Nuclear Missile. 12 Thermal Nuclear Warheads are packed into 1 Ballistic Missile. Or I CBM and similar pay load for the submarine thermal nukes. And just between the US and Russia. There are nearly 12 thousand of them. And only 30 are needed to cause nuclear Winter. Do the math. 30 times 12 = blank. Then blank times 100000=blank. And again just between the Russia and USA nearly comes to 1200 thermal Nuclear missiles. How millions of times over can we destroy ourselves?

All this idea that a quick nuclear attack on Russian soil would immediately win a war. Does anyone think of the submarine power that can be released afterwards?

Most of the underlying points made in this video are valid. The US and NATO are not blameless: pushing NATO to Russia's boundaries was clearly provocative. However, Putin's invasion of Ukraine, and the build-up to it, was a near-perfect imitation of Hitler's invasion of Czechoslovakia. Russia is not a natural enemy of the United States, but Putin is a natural enemy of basic human rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, etc. I believe that the US administration was initially prepared to let Putin take Ukraine, as we earlier let him take the Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk; but the surprising resistance of the Ukrainian public and political leadership made that politically untenable. So we have been drawn into a dangerous conflict, and the danger that nuclear weapons will be used is real and terrifying. On the other hand, to not stand up to Putin (as Chamberlain did not stand up to Hitler) also has consequences. This is a very scary situation, but to characterize the US as a school-yard bully, and Putin as the victim, is silly. What needs serious attention is a de-escalation strategy. How can we let Putin save face and reduce the nuclear threat, without ceding all of Ukraine? One answer would be to let him have the Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, but that cripples Ukraines ability to export its globally-important agricultural products. If Ukraine could find alternative export channels, it could be viable to let Putin keep these two oblasts. Alternatively, the neutralization and disarmament of all of Ukraine could make both Russia and Western Europe feel safer. Whatever the outcome, attention should be paid to how we get out of this without someone pulling the nuclear trigger.

Thank you very much for an in-depth and on the spot analysis done on concrete historical events and seen in an objective, scientific way! I wish we had these kind of thinking analysts in the western European environment now, where the left movement as such does not exist anymore
