Thanks for the upload and thanks to Stacey Schuerman! I've had anxiety problems for years, and it's breathwork which really helps in stressful times, such as when my youngest is having a tantrum. The brilliant thing is that breathwork is free! One can simply activate the parasympathetic nervous system in a few minutes. I wish all those who read this comment a boss day.

I truly enjoyed your exercise, Stacey! Thank you for sharing this with the world. Meditation and breathing have enabled me to release and heal my PTSD and ADD. I have never felt better since I picked up meditation and breathwork as daily training since 2008. Anyone who's watching this or reading this comment, please listen to what Stacey is teaching, it's solid GOLD and your life will change - you just gotta give it a try and stick with if for a little bit before judging it. I have been meditating since 2008 and haven't missed a day since. I became so passionate about it, that I became a meditation trainer and started my own meditation-based business.

Darko P That is right. No point in harming oneself. Truth to be told, it has become a bit of on and off. Two or three days of meditation and breathing and cold showers and then a few days off. But the benefits are there and I aim to continue doing without overdoing it till I am fit enough.I am seeing some weight loss as well. Not sure if it has anything to do with the breathing exercises.

The simple task of regulating breathing can have a tremendous impact on mental health. Stress, anxiety, and their consequent health issues are such a big issue in our society, and taking this small step can make a difference. As a medical school student, I experience high levels of stress on a near constant basis. The simple act of taking five minutes to stop and focus on my breathing, or just going outside and getting some fresh air, makes a world of difference. There are numerous studies on the benefits of breathing exercises for a wide range of pathological conditions. As a future osteopathic physician, I’ll encourage my patients to avail themselves of meditative breathing exercises, for their physiological, emotional, and spiritual benefit. The principle of beneficence dictates that I do the best I can for all of my patients, part of which entails treating the whole person with any and all beneficial modes of treatment.

@Self Improvement I do it before. Of course 'looking' at the breathing is a common technique in meditation, but when I do this technique before I start the sitting meditation, the I get way more calm. I think it is the body that needs less air, so your breathing calms down, so you become more still. It stills the mind.

This is beautiful work. I would like to point out that Namaste is a respectful Hello in India. It is a form of greeting used when people meet together in a formal setting. I think Westerners practicing yoga use it as a replacement for "Bless You" or "Peace be to you" and I notice they use it at the very end. This is completely fine but it might confuse Indians if they go to India or other Hindi speaking cultures.

Lovely relaxing technique. AND A belly breath is really important. !! Rather than raising up, the shoulder muscles being used and going up, breathe with the diaphragm and into the belly. Raising the shoulders to breathe is a stress response to protect the jugular. drop down into a diaphragmatic breath to expand the whole respiratory system. Namaste.

Four, because it is the number of nature. Takin in new power with the inhale, and pushing out all anxiety, fear and weakness out with the exhale. Well, after this video I am thinking about to improve that exercise. Thank you for the guidence.

With all due respects, this is the same as the Pranayamam, a part of SandhyaVandanam which is to be performed 3 times a day, by every indian who follows the traditional way of life. In each sitting, 16 Pranayamams are mandated, and one more Pranayamam during another short ritual called the Brahmayagnyam. Altogether 49 Pranayamams are mandated every day. Instead of counting, one has to mentally chant the longer form of Gayatri Mantra. For concentration, one focuses on the image of Gayatri Devi. If done properly, the rejuvenation one feels is experiencial. It cannot be described in words. Since the stomach muscles are fully compressed and expanded, the action pumps the lymphatic fluid very well. The lymphatic system is a part of the immune system, which protects us from diseases. It has no pump like the heart, only our abdominal muscles force the circulation. I could give close care to my Covid afflicted, 90 year old mother, without getting affected by Covid myself. I didn't even feel tired. This is to share experiences, and bring out the wisdom in our heritage practices. I believe the West renames our practices, and sells the knowledge back to us. It is better to do our own research, and rediscover ourselves.

great talk - for me and my coaching clients the topic breath is such important that I wrote a book about it 'just breathe toolbox' - it helps so many people to deal with many problems, physically, psychologically, emotionally or mentally - only by taking a few minutes per day, focused on the breath

HI, Patrick here from Mind Life Flow... a wonderful video on mindful breathing. It's very powerful when practised on a daily basis...activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Thankyou - how is everyone finding this?

how long does it take to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. is it a matter of days or weeks?

Good question. I like to think of the PNS as the 'rest and digest' mechanism and the ANS (autonomic nervous system) as the 'fight-flight-freeze' mechanism. Of course, the ANS is very fast in its activation. Yet with what was described in the video you can activate the PNS rather quickly as well to compensate for an activated ANS.
