Angelina lets the story define how she sings something. Elvis' version, which was his last #1 hit, was up-beat & happy sounding, even though the lyrics are sad & emotional. I love the symbolism in this video and performance. The retro antique shop, the black leather boots, the leather outfit, the beehive hair reminiscent of Priscilla, the red guitar. Just a spectacular presentation and vocal. This is the first time I have heard this song and actually listened to the lyrics because of her slowing it down.

Her Grandma, Mery Zamani, helped produced this. She used the same store (Melrose Gallery in L.A.) she used for her My Funny Valentine and I Have Nothing videos. Her sister Juliette was the older girl and the 2 younger girls are her Uncle Mike's kids, Aires and Athena. 2- time Grammy winner Rob Christie is on piano once again. He is also the music director of Republic Records, the music company she is signed with. The beehive hairstyle was to honor Priscilla Presley and the time period she met Elvis. The black suit and red guitar was a classic look for Elvis from his comeback concert. What a performance and homage to The King!

I think it’s debatable if she actually plays flute. Some have said that she plays flute and violin but i don’t know if there is any video of her playing them. Perhaps she had lessons in violin and flute as part of her music classes when she was a young girl. There are a couple of photos of her holding a violin but if she had lessons she may not have continued on those instruments.

Yes im sure if she actually learned to play them we would occasionally see some video. It’s kind of like the languages she speaks. I think it’s confirmed that she speaks Norwegian, English and Farsi but many fans post that she also speaks Swedish, Japanese, German, Spanish. I think she may know a little bit of some of those languages but I don’t think we know if she is fluent on any of them. With Farsi, it’s possible that she is no longer fluent as she may have not used it for awhile.

Sir, for composing her own songs (today there are as she told us, a bit over 100 of it) she uses her piano at her studio, yes Republic Records build her, her own studio. She plays also guitar. This special guitar was lend to her by her "pianist", managing director of RR studios LA, Mr. Rob Christie. I was told the guitar is a replica of the guitar Elvis played in 1969. @@melvinthinks That would be lovely, there are 2 videos when she was 10 yo. "Still holding out for you" a demo for Baby Fuzz (aka Brandon Lowry) and Alan Walker is coming home. ATTENTION, she sang 2 songs, bur he first does a instrumental "sunday", than she sings "sing me to sleep" and after that she sang his famous "faded". At age 10 she sings better than most 30 yo singers. That is not from me, a lot of vocal coaches said so. At age 11 she had a outdoor concert at the Proysenhuset festivalen. Take whatever song you like, the whole band loved and respected the young woman. At age 12 she did a concert in Oslo with the brass band of the Armed Forces for the Prime minister and her friends. From the very first words, the warmth, tone, passion and sweetness that Angelina manages to instill in this mythical song are truly incredible, you just wish the song was much longer. Her phrasing, backed by her wonderful use of breath and her peculiar jazz tone, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, I love this absolutely amazing, so personal rewrite of this iconic song, with so many Elvis tribute details. Now it's a different song, but it's also the same, it still has that harmony, but somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) it's even more emotional, it's slower, but it's so close to your soul flow that kidnaps you. 💛🧡❤

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. As usual, a vocal master piece. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. On february 29, 2024 she had two concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada,on the Elvis stage. On May 16, 2024, the first fruits of Angelina's cooperation with Tobi Gad were released. This German composer and record producer based in Los Angeles invited Angeline to an intimate concert at the Hotel Cafe JESSE & FRIENDS, the same one where Adel sang and was discovered. Tobi then took Angelina to London, where she performed His song If I Were A Boy at the London Palladium, and they recorded two versions of the song, Live At Saint James Church, and another studio version illustrated with a film from the streets of London. He is playing piano in a London station, Angelina walks up and asks him if he knows a song. When he starts playing it, she takes her shoes and socks off and starts singing, worth checking out. My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

​@melvinthinks Since the UK withdrew from the EU, can you move there and work there if you wanted to? As I understood it, you could have done it before. Here in the US we used to be able to go to Canada and Mexico without a passport. I think that may have changed now but I haven't been to Mexico is 10 years or so and haven't had to find out. Norway seems like it would be a wonderful place to live and work. If you ever do actually move there I would love to hear about your experiences around the move. God bless you Melvin. ❤😊

I would love to see some of Europe, but like you, I would have to win the lottery to afford it. I am retired on fixed income. Social security, we call it over here.

As I feel certain you know, the song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them. To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aries (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

Fun fact Melvin. The little girl next door has Guinea Pigs. One was called Melvin and it was one of her favourites. Melvin, sadly, is no longer with us. As to Angelina. She is a master of manipulating and wrangling diphthongs and her head/chest voice transition is as good if not better than Dionne Warwick and I think that is what makes her so special. It allows AJ to really wring everything out. And keep going with your style of reactions friend.

The Hagstrom Red Guitar used in this video is a modern up to date copy of the one Elvis used in 1968, and belongs to Rob Christie, AJ’s A&R rep from Republic Records/Universal Music Group. The Hagstrom Red Guitar belonged to musician Al Casey, a member of Elvis’ backing band during the special in 1968. Hello, thanks for the reaction. Your comment is interesting, I take the opportunity to expand on it. There is a difference between singing and being a singer. Being a singer is being a star, a superstar that everyone applauds on stage. Many singers (or practically all, I include instrumentalists) try to be that center when in the end it is only about singing a simple 3-minute song. Singers who only seek applause (being singers) through vocalization seek to show their skills and this happens with musicians who on stage play instruments as if they were a skill machine. People, the zombie world loves these crazy things because in their personal emptiness they would like to be that center of applause. Unfortunately that has nothing to do with life or music. Music is that moment in life called song, where there was someone with a role remembering or imagining a frame of life. Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, etc. and today Angelina understood that ultimately nobody gives a damn about the song, musicians and singers seek applause while the public imagines being applauded. The guitar is an original that Elvis himself actually played on stage, belonging to Republic Records. The upbeat Elvis version sort of implied that paranoia and suspicion in a relationship is OK providing you have enough love. Angelina's version, with the exact same lyrics, brings out the true meaning of the lyrics, that suspicion in a relationship really sucks.

AJ often changes the meaning of the songs. This version isn't about a relationship about 2 people, but the entire Humanity. It talks about distrust and saving a love that is worthy to defend. AJ versions aren't accidental. Just as she used 'You were always on my mind' from Elvis (too) when her grandfather passed away. Personally, I don't like the image recording of this song, for it doesn't express properly what AJ had to say.
