It's a hobby I'd love to get into but it's a big outlay of cash even if you want a second hand detector a good one is around £250/£300 I was told by a guy on another channel, if you have any advice on getting a good but fairly cheap one please let me know, appreciate any help cuz it's a fascinating hobby and it's a healthy hobby that could land you 5p or 5 million!! You NEVER KNOW...

But more often than not you dig lots amd lots of trash (iron, lead, aluminium, bottle tops, ringpulls etc). 8 years in and yet to have a £5 million pound hole. But yeah look at a 2nd hand Nokta Makro Simplex or Minelab Vanquish. Both really decent machines for a low end budget. For me a metal detector is an investment. They pay for themselves very quickly

I think 5 million was a tad high in expectations and many years ago my brother bought a £40 brand new detector lol 😆 definitely something you get for a kid to play with in the garden as it would pick up anything deeper than 3 inches but even then we found a couple of coins from the 60s or 70s I forget as it was about 15 years ago but it was mainly bottle caps and cans and tin bloody foil omg I remember that had my brother throwing a fit!! Great feeling, isn't it? It took me 22 years to find a gold coin, I didn't barter, I gave it the landowner, he in turn said I could have the next one, never in a million yrs did I think I would find another, but last week, I did. This one is all mine. Well done.

I had to pay the landowner quite a big chunk of money, but I felt like it was the right thing to do as an honest detectorist. Well done buddy, nice that the landowner was happy to take 50% and let you keep the coin, i found some decent things last time i was at home (work out the country 6 months a year) and i only found them things because of persistence and passion for the hobby of finding great things. you go the extra mile and sooner or later something good will turn up. a bad days detecting can be flipped on the next hole with a good signal.... keep that coil to the soil

Hi Chris, what you say is spot on! Some people expect to pick up a detector, go out for an hour and find bucket loads of gold. Generally the only people who make such finds are the ones out there, every weekend, week after week, month after month, year after year. I have developed a nack for finding gold coins, I don't know why or how, but I believe its to do with the type of land I love to detect. No gold for over 2 years then 2 come in a week, but that is how it can go. I may not find any again for years. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for leaving your expert feedback. Gareth

Hi mate, yes this was a crazy day, getting a new permission, new landowner who I do not know, then finding this coin. But as always I wanted to do the right thing and the honest thing. He was somewhat keen on keeping the coin, but I offered him a large pile of cash (almost all of my Birthday money form the week before), which he accepted. Detecting definitely makes some excellent memories 👌 I've got a couple of hours spare, but don't fancy detecting in the snow. Also, I snapped the connection bit on the deus where the control unit attaches to the detector. My fault, I pulled it towards me be the control unit.. I've ordered a couple of 3D printed ones, they look a lot sturdier..

@The Dukes Of Derbyshire After I broke it I just put the control unit in my pocket and just used sound only. At the end if the hunt my finds were pretty similar to the day before, so it's not the end of the world. It's very light to swing around 😀 I hope you manage to get home from the dentist.. I'm supposed to be going to Derbyshire tonight, to a rotary club, a detectorist is doing a talk apparently.. (15 year old) but the snow might prevent me from travelling.. its snowing in Nottingham... I've still got a couple of walks to do too 😀

Hi Marcus, I had to film that voiceover on Saturday morning after spending ALL night been horrendously sick 🤣🤣🤣 Today I was right as rain though, proper 12 hour sickness bug, dead weird!! Yes it took me about 14 months and 1,000 hours detecting time to finally find gold. Then 14 months and 1,003 hours detecting time to find my 2nd gold 🤣🤣🤣 Well n truly love this hobby again mate, in my element, got my mojo back n everything! It was my Birthday the week before and I received some money from my parents. So most of that went towards this coin. But it means that I will keep this coin for my whole life, an easy decision for me. Voiceovers are such a difficult skill, if I had more money, I'd hire Morgan Freeman, imagine that hahaha. I had a 3rd visit to this permission a few days ago, I did not find any gold this time. But I tried a small field next to the farm, I literally could not find any signals. Then I got the faintest signal on Sensi FT, was only just picking it up. I did a recording of the signal with different programs including Gold Field. And would you believe it from 9+ inches deep the most beautiful Victorian silver shilling. I could not believe my eyes. Definitely going to try deeper settings on those fields, the finds seem to be super deep!

Hi Terry, how are you doing buddy? No gold coins in 50 years is quite astounding. I do not really count my detecting career in years, I like to count it in hours. I believe I detect around 1,000 hours a year, some may only detect for 20 hours a year. In 8 long years in this wonderful hobby I have been lucky enough to find 8 gold coins. I believe its all about the location, I know where to look. However, I do not know where to find gold rings, as I have still never found one. I have only found one gold coin and have not detected for a while as life got in the way. Am trying to get back into it and maybe find another Celtic ,the last one was a quarter stater and 3 Celtic silver units so looking for a full stater. Hi mate, thanks for checking out another of my videos, I do really appreciate you taking an interest in my channel. Many years ago I found a big gold hammered coin, out the ground it was an 83 on my old Garrett AT Pro. I compared the signal to a moo tube.. The moo tube was also an 83 and the signals were identical. This is why you shouldn't really pay attention to the VDI numbers, better to listen to the machine. @@TheDukesOfDerbyshire yea the crisp sound a good target makes is hard to miss. My fisher Makes a sweet double tap sound over rings and coins so I know that sound. I sweep faster than you do and the signal changes from single tone during slow scan over it to a double tap when I sweep fast pass over the target.

No then Mr Connell, thanks buddy, you are right perseverance does pay off, I am out there every weekend in the cold, in the rain, in the mud, in the wind, week after week, month after month, year after year. You get back what you put into this hobby, I am a firm believer of that. 2023 started slow for me, in fact I even doubted if I even loved this hobby anymore, but then February exploded into life and I found 2 hammered silver coins, 2 gold coins, early milled silver and all sorts of cool stuff again.
