Thanks! I copied what you did to some cordyceps that was also gifted to me and did your spore tech. I didnt check under a scope though.. i did a ms to agar then did a T1 plate grew that then went to LC to my rice jars and it took a little longer than usual but i just harvested a week ago!

Brother Gary, your the best! But I really want to write to you regarding that you look into being more diligent when spraying iso alc, particularly when the hood is on, projecting the spray back onto you and into your breathing area. I used iso just to clean my surface areas for a few years, then I got tested for health reasons, indirectly, they found iso built up in my system. From watching your videos I see that you are a lot more exposed to iso than I was. I just wanted to share this with you in regards to long term health. Absolutely love your sharing Gary. Thank you

this is something that has concerned me for the past couple of months. what did you do next ? maybe a respirator while working ?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi5 ай бұрын
Yes this should be considered - I think wearing gloves and tyvek sleeves could help and also some people prefer ethanol but I just try to keep the air clean in my work space the best I can - working in the lab I have been exposed to lots of volatile chemicals I could be better with PPE

Excellent as always. What about cloning a fruit to agar or lc?😅
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi7 ай бұрын
it can work in a pinch but to me it never has the same results as the original culture. Good point though especially with these chonkees

Newbie question (im looking at lions mane, bears head and coral teeth. How exactly would you breed strains? I can see selecting desirable fruiting bodies for spore prints and propogating new generations for variability to select for LC or finding desirable fruiting bodies to get samples from and putting together in a LC. But the mushroom is the fruiting body (like a baby already growing) with the 'seeds' or spores already genetically fixed. How do you cause different mycelial cultures to cross breed?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungiАй бұрын
this is all true - you need to isolate single spores and systematically cross them to pull out desired traits. It takes time, patience and a lot of “failed” attempts to make unique varieties or select varieties

Another great video! For isolating Cordyceps monokaryons, I'm curious...wouldn't Ed Grand's 'grab and drag' technique for isolating single basidiospores work, in this case, for ascomycetes and ascospores as well? It's a very effective technique and allowed me to isolate basidiomycete monokaryons quite easily, without any serial dilution or anything! May be worth giving a shot.
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi7 ай бұрын
I think it’s worth a shot but I also believe they are much more sensitive spores and could lyse or fall apart with any kind of mechanical manipulation which is why they don’t make viable spore prints either- let me know if this method has success though

@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi so if spore prints are out of the question for cordyceps, which method is best to use for long term store similar to spore prints?

Hey bro,, i am Indonesia,, can you make mushroom gymnopus sp in Indonesia very expensive,, but difficult farm,,

i wonder if the cordyceps spores would be viable for longer if they were suspended in sterile water
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi7 ай бұрын
I have thought of this as well and it prompted me to try in sterile broth - check out “hyperbreeding cordyceps”
