7:05 I paint custom wooden signs and a lot of customers ask for water. This is going to help a lot! Yes, when you're up close and painting you have to step back 2 or 3 feet to see what it looks like. It might look like crap up close but from 3 ft away it looks great. I often thought about taping a brush to a 2ft long dowel hahaha

:-)))))) Yes, this is the problem of finding the balance of how much details you really need to make a painting look good at a certain distance...still struggle with it from time to time after all those decades of painting ;-)))

@@brennerfineart I was working on a custom billboard and the letters were 3m high. I was going around the edges fixing all the little flaws. The customer drove up, "mikey mikey mikey, come with me" We get into his car and drive 1/2 km across the field to the road. "look" I turn around, the letters appeared to be 4 cm high at that distance lol I was worried about a tiny little speck that at that distance was .01mm hahaha

@@muskokamike127 YES!!!! The customer is a wise guy ;-))) We artists always tend to overdo things MASSIVELY...in the end, a lot of people don`t even see those small changes that we imply...so it really is better to save the time for the next piece of art rather than adding some pimples on the nose of the fly that is sitting on the guys jacket who can barely be seen sitting under the tree that is 100 meter away... :-)))

Thank you so much Frederick :-))) I clean the palette and the paper towels I use for this are kept in a shoe box to dry. Then the cadmium and the titanium is sealed in the little remaings. As long as you do not spray your colour nothing should happen while painting.

@@brennerfineart This is great, I have attempted it twice but can not get the waves to look like waves. What is the trick there?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart Жыл бұрын
@@user-fm9gc7dh8c The trick is to practice hard - you can not expect to get the same result without the adequate amount of practice. Just like anything else in life - if you want to master something it takes dedication and practice. One thing - just really try to follow me step by step...and really try to do the exact same thing. That is something that people very often get wrong...they THINK they follow a tutorial but they somehow "wander off"...just like when you try to copy a photo onto the canvas - stay as close as possible and try to understand whats going on. And you will pick up how to paint this topic a lot faster!

Yet, we get to see the progress with the little 'jumps' you make in the video. I also learned how, when, and why to use a dry brush and the different effects that can be achieved. It was fascinating. I watched and was surprised at how many times I had to tell myself "Of Course"! It all made so much sense when you demonstrated it, even to this 73 year old who has the time and willingness but is only learning the basics. THANK YOU so very much! Incidentally, your calm voice that is so easy to listen to, also instills the patience needed to do such gorgeous and realistic art. Your English is also VERY good and easy to understand. Thank you :-))) The reference I used here is a close up shot of some surfers doing their "thing" in the waves - so there was no need for air perspective simply because there was not enough air between the front part of the painting and the back part. It basically is a close up shot and there is no need to put in any blue of the sky - this would give the false impression of a distance that simply is not there. And the reflections - I even reduced the amount of reflections that were on the reference material, believe it or not ;-)))) Please have a look at it and I think you will agree: www.pexels.com/photo/man-surfing-2495402/

Her kes çizdiğim resimleri görünce bayılıyorlar.

Thanks for this tutorial, you literally saved me, I'll try this technique soon. I wanted to make my father a gift so I'm trying to paint the training ship where he trained to become a seaman, but while I'm good at landscapes, I've never painted the sea before, so right now I have a canvas with a perfect sky and a huge blue rectangle underneath it. Wish me luck lol
