Bret "Hitman" Hart is my favorite wrestler and has been since 1980's WWF. Bret has NEVER changed his story about his wrestling style and Ric Flair's. It's the same here as it was 20 years ago, or so, when Bret first talked about it. He's a straight shooter and tells the truth.

Difference between Bret & Ric... Bret had a similar routine style comeback many nights. (Stomach punch, side Russian, elbow etc) But the template of the entire match was SO different. Changed every night. Ric, essentially had the same TEMPLATE of a match every night. So yes, Bret would probably not understand how a guy who was often touted as the best worker in the business, was unable to change up the match "routine" once in awhile. Understandable.

Legends, both of these guys. Admittedly, I haven't watched much wrestling since i was a kid, but when i did, i watched both these guys in their prime, and I still love hearing from them to this day. Flair was always my favorite. I loved the attitude, the character, far more then the actual wrestling. The promos are legendary. And of course i loved Bret Hart as well, and all the history there, both good and sad, not the least of which because he is Canadian like me. Cheers guys. If by high road you mean two guys that have taken shots at each other numerous times in interviews and in their books, I guess they are. what bret was trying to say is that it was a generational differance 70's style vs the 80's style guys . flair is a few years older than bret , and flair worked with older guys and they didnt talk about the matches or plan things out flair has said he calls it in the ring as it happens old school. then people like bret hart and macho man liked to plan a match out a few hours before the show, bret and stone cold planned wrestlemania 13 , hogan said macho man was same way come up to you say break a 15 minute match down into 5 minute blocks of time , each one gets 5 minutes to do the moves they want then last 5 minutes sets up the finish

Both incredible workers but for me Ric schedule back then (especially when he was World Champion) was insane for a long period of time and he couldn't afford go out and work gruelling match every night otherwise his body would have broken down much quicker than it has (and he's still in great shape) I can imagine in Ric mind it was about longevity and maintaining his body in order to make a very good living for the longest amount of time possible. Some of the biggest stars in pro wrestling never did a great deal in the ring but made the most money...Flair, Cena and Hogan. if you ask Ric who is the best/smartest worker you ever met he would sarcastically reply 'the one who made the most money' its a business at the end of the day and the worker who can go out and have the fans in the palm of their hand, entertain them, make alot of money and move on to the next town and make alot of money by doing the least amount of work is the smartest business man.

I love both guys, but I think the main difference was Ric was NWA Champ and as such he COULD work the same match in every territory without the general public even noticing it. For most of his career Bret was televised for most of his time in the ring, so if you were to do the same match every week it becomes very noticeable. Bret obviously had a series of moves that he used in pretty much every night. I think Bret's ring psychology was better. I mean Ric was great as the heel champ winning by the skin of his teeth.
@fishhookism

I think it was a generational thing. Ric was a champion who went to different territories to put the local champion over. Bret's job was to have classic matches. Both of them were great wrestlers.

For me, and I'll state right away that I'm Canadian and Bret is my 2nd favorite (Dynamite Kid #1) wrestler. Ric obviously towers over Bret in the promo dept, no question. However comparing in ring work is where Bret completely destroy's Ric without question. IMO, the criteria of an excellent wrestler is, 1st your ability to make the crowd believe that was is happening inside the ring is real. Everything about Bret's work looked real, the only thing that looked real for Ric was his chops, because they were since he didn't hold back on them. Being able to cut a good promo is definitely an asset, but the sport is not called Pro Promo's, its Pro Wrestling. Ric had to rely on bleeding to create his realism, and even then you always knew and could tell when Ric would get color, he didnt try to hide it. There is no art in that, but I do give Ric major props for his ability to do those 1hr long matches on a consistent basis, even though the work rate back in Ric's heyday was not the faster paced style during Bret's run.
@LeoWhalen1933

Im a Bret Hart guy. Bottom line. However, Bret was sort of narrow-minded when it comes to looking at other wrestling promotions. Jim Cornette recalled meeting Bret in 1988 or so and Bret didnt even know who the Midnight and RR Express were😂😂😂 His matches were put together in blocks and then improvised in between. Ric Flair was extemporaneous in the ring, along with the other guys that worked with him during the era. Randy Savage and Ric Flair both had their greatest matches with Ricky Steamboat. Randys was planned move for move and Ric Flairs was improvised. Did i know or care as a fan? NO😂😂😂 WE FANS ALL WON WHENEVER BRET AND RIC WRESTLED.

Bret Hart’s downfall is he’s a gigantic mark for himself. Gifted wrestler for certain and could work circles around 95% of his opponents from a technical perspective….but he never sold a house out on his own whereas the opposite was true with Naitch. Charisma goes a LONG way…..

Bret was my favorite. I had the visor and long hair. Bret was not great at promos but told a story in his wrestling. He did have a few good promos as the Anti American role with it seeming real and he was funny when he would taunt somebody until he got hit with a punch or move. I loved when he was storyline injured and kept poking at Shawn until he super kicked him. Shawn Michaels biggest pops in his first run were with Bret. Bret could put on good matches with most people even no talent guys but if they had egos and pulled a Hulk "that doesn't work for me brother" card. nobody could pull off good matches with people like that. He could have every American town boo him but when he went back to Canada the arenas would blow up for him. I love the no nonsense attitude and I agree with him on most of his opinions of past and present wrestling. We could have had quite a few dream matches left from him if Goldberg was not a dumbass and threw a real solid kick to (damn near through) Bret's head.
